I have been a long time MN lurker, but the last 3 weeks have actually been posting due to a post op. The place is bonkers, and I am going to miss it now I am on the mend.

Here are a few bonkers opinions.

  1. Men can become women

  2. If you have more than £3.46 left for the week, you have loads and shouldn't ask for budgeting advice.

  3. If you are uncomfortable with husband going to a strip club or a candlelit dinner with his ex, you are a controlling old witch who doesn't trust him.

  4. Something magical happens to your children the day they turn 18, and you should charge them market rent and not help them anymore.

  5. If you want to see a country that is a long haul flight away, you are environmentally worse than a Bond Villain.

  6. Dogs should always be on their leads, even in dog walking parks.

What else?

I find it really strange when people don't realise that

  1. People on MN also exist in real life.
  2. You are more likely to get people's true thoughts when they are posting anonymously, rather than asking your friends and family
But
  1. MN is full of fantasists and trolls.

Best not to take anything at face value, either claiming "nobody irl thinks like MNers" or "MN is representative of people in general."

OP, I’m not sure if you missed my message earlier. Can you point me in direction of a thread or post on MN where the person actually believes someone can change their sex?

There are plenty of people (although they are a minority on MN) that believe a man can choose to live as a woman - not genetically change into one (i've never heard that). Problem is, people just hear "a man can become a woman!" And flip their shit.

NorthernJim · 15/06/2026 14:21

Yabu - not everyone has to have the exact same thoughts and opinions as you. Except in 1984. The things that you've stated appear to be the minority viewpoint on mn.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/06/2026 14:21

Re 1), Mumsnet is one of the very few places on the internet where lots of people openly agree that men absolutely cannot become women.

LuckyHazelFox · 15/06/2026 14:29

That MN should never accept new posters because they are bots sent from Reform or Tory HQ. The drawbridge was pulled up many moons ago so no newbies please. Nice all inclusive forum and all that.

ilovemybluesharpie · 15/06/2026 14:35

Most MN do not think that men can become women, but the complete opposite from what I have seen.

Also, regarding 18 year olds, I have seen more threads where people ask how much to charge their DC, then get told that they are disgusting for wanting to do so (even if cannot support them they are expected to somehow keep their DC after losing child benefit and council tax discounts etc), so maybe you are not seeing all the threads and getting the wrong idea.

Every now and again the far right sent their minions to teach us middle class, woke bleeding-heart women a lesson. They're very welcome to join in, but they are kidding if they think they're actually influencing anything in society. Let's just say there's a clear difference in education levels 😂

You've just said exactly what it does on the Tin. Can't even be arsed to go there about education levels. So the hard left don't need to send their minions as the hard left already make up the majority composition? Got it.

Yes that's very true - thankfully.

There has been an influx of new posters who are suddenly very prolific over the past week, aggressively shouting down reasonable views (in the opposite direction to usual) and arguing black is white. No idea how they all suddenly decided to join MN at the same time but it's really gone weird over the past week compared to how things usually go.

Edited

It has always been like that, the shouting people down isn’t anything new.

There have always been a minority of absolute witches on hear and the admins do little to stop them.

Why don’t think MN has such a reputation?

Blimms · 15/06/2026 14:11

Or maybe sometimes poster like me have fat fingers and end up quoting the wrong post! 😆

or end up replying on the wrong thread, I am not even sure how I've managed before that but it's embarrassing 😂

Oh, yes, I’ve definitely done that before. Probably more than once

LaurieFairyCake · 15/06/2026 17:00

Those definitely look like minority opinions, I disagree with at least 3 of those and I’m hardly Mrs Revolutionary

LaurieFairyCake · 15/06/2026 17:01

Though I have noticed a lot of incredibly right wing pro Farage opinions on here in last year

ohyesido · 15/06/2026 17:52

Mumsnet is the only place I know of where people can state the first one and not be vilified by idiots

Error404FucksNotFound · 15/06/2026 17:57

Mumsnet doesnt have any opinions at all. It's not a sentient being or a hive mind.

I like the wide range of opinions you see expressed on mumsnet whether I agree with them or not. I get to hear views I maybe haven't heard before. Sometimes I change my own views because someone has put something in such a good way from an angle id never considered before

Yes, I do as well. It's unhealthy to be in a bubble and I think it's good to have your opinions challenged, in a sensible way. It can often make you think and reflect on your mindset.

Not sure how sarcastic you are being here - but not every woman on MN is middle class with a degree.

Sorry, yes i was being sarcastic. I'm referencing the cliched reputation of typical MNers.

mumumental · 15/06/2026 21:52

I don’t recognise any of those “opinions “ as common. And people are different.

If your DH/DP has a special female friend or colleague who he seems to spend a lot of time with or texting, you are controlling and overly suspicious if you mind.

but then on mumsnet, if the roles are flipped then its the Dh should trust the wife and that hes controlling if he does not etc

in previous times it was the vipers etc or the queen bees
