AIBU to say Mumsnet has some particularly bonkers opinions?

I have been a long time MN lurker, but the last 3 weeks have actually been posting due to a post op. The place is bonkers, and I am going to miss it now I am on the mend.

Here are a few bonkers opinions.

  1. Men can become women

  2. If you have more than £3.46 left for the week, you have loads and shouldn't ask for budgeting advice.

  3. If you are uncomfortable with husband going to a strip club or a candlelit dinner with his ex, you are a controlling old witch who doesn't trust him.

  4. Something magical happens to your children the day they turn 18, and you should charge them market rent and not help them anymore.

  5. If you want to see a country that is a long haul flight away, you are environmentally worse than a Bond Villain.

  6. Dogs should always be on their leads, even in dog walking parks.

What else?

Certainly I agree that a lot of people have opinions very different to my own, and I also think they have very different backgrounds and lifestyles.

Just looking at your list though, I agree that many posters seem to have a similar view on adult DC. Often these are posters who don’t have DC, or who only have pre-schoolers.

Points 2, 3, 5 and 6 are more contentious and the topics of many a thread where there is certainly not overall agreement.

I think though that very few posters believe number 1, and if they do they are very quiet about it. MN is generally very vocal in being gender critical and supportive of safe places for women.

If you are slim like the Princess of Wales it's only because you have a personal chef, a physical trainer and lots of money.
The fact that her parents, siblings and children are slim and that it is probably genetics are irrelevant.

LateDecember · 15/06/2026 13:24

happygreenscissors · 15/06/2026 13:09

do you honestly. meet people as angry and bitter in real life? I sure don't!

I am not surrounded by women who hate men, or even treat them as a different species, and people love holidays and parties. People in real life are too busy living to have time to be that angry, or scared to death about anything and everything.

If real life was like MN, there would be no hope for me (or all of humanity) and I'd probably be in utter despair. It's bad on here but at least I can log off and touch grass.

And an 'obvious eating disorder' according to many 🙄

true, in real life, it would be "controlling old bitch"

I dont' really hear the word witch in that context in real life.

You should probably change the circles you move in if people are referring to women as ‘controlling old bitches’

Edenmum2 · 15/06/2026 13:27

I don’t agree with all your points but I have noticed the past week or so Mumsnet has been a particularly vile place to be. If I accidentally read a thread from a few years ago it’s actually jarring to see how supportive 90% of the comments are.

in fairness, when your entire life is turned around your looks and appearance, and you have unlimited funds, it's not quite the same challenge as a working mother of preschool kids who doesn't have anywhere near the time nor money for exercise, facial treatments and so on.

Mums of young children can't even leave them home early. mornings or late evenings to go to the gym

not "women"

just the ONE woman who is a "controlling old bitch" if there's one in their life 😂
Sadly, many MIL are an absolute nightmare, what can I do.

I'm reclaiming the word witch. I'm starting by growing witch hair by not getting haircuts.

You think men can become women??

Holy moly!!

Eh? This poster was saying that the OP has got it wrong on MN opinion on this. Most MNers don’t think this at all (unless they keep their thoughts to themselves). Think you’ve misread.

Differentforgirls · 15/06/2026 13:29

Pollqueen · 15/06/2026 13:09

I believe this to be true as well. Literally every point you make, MN opinion is usually the opposite and I've never come across a poster who has drank the Trans coolaid

Hi! 👋

When I become a billionaire, or maybe even trillionaire and become one of the most evil things on the planet, I’m going to get Mumsnet to choose me the most phenomenal holiday homes. That’s where Mumsnet really comes into its own, very well travelled women who know their destinations. Since I have the finances currently to sleep on the bench in my garden for some variety, my house hunting is on hold, but if you were to say to Mumsnetters, please find me this brief, they’d nail it. I’ve so much faith in this.

MrsShawnHatosy · 15/06/2026 13:36

Shower gel doesn’t get you properly clean.

And that sort of ties in to, "showering once a week is normal"

Oh quite a few do!

Or are they just incredibly vocal?

I tend to find minorities always punch way about their weight in terms of being vociferous.

For eg, I had no idea that trans people only made up 0.1% of the population. My God! They make one hell of a racket considering what a tiny minority they apparently are.

This is so true, the 'hive mind' can be extremely knowledgeable, experienced and helpful (people love being those things - more than they love being oppinionated in debates and arguements).

OP, I’m not sure if you missed my message earlier. Can you point me in direction of a thread or post on MN where the person actually believes someone can change their sex?

All boomers are stinking rich

Now I agree that does seem to be a popular opinion on here! I’m guessing you are one of the majority who are just getting by and have never been in a position of power to be held to blame for the state the country is in or the process of property!

when people react angrily, I just assume I've touched a nerve and they somewho took a general comment as a personal attack - as most angry posters on here seem to do 😂

Yes people often do that, they take a comment personally like it's aimed at them. Some people are just fragile and don't like feeling like they've been told they're wrong.

But.. in some cases there are people who feel very passionately about something they have lived experience of, and maybe they've been told they're wrong all their lives, or they're still getting over something traumatic.. hitting a nerve could be an understatement. We've all seen this happen in real life, i'm sure.

Or maybe sometimes poster like me have fat fingers and end up quoting the wrong post! 😆
