What's hated on MN, but insanely popular in real life?

Disney World
Starbucks, Costa, Nero etc
Center Parcs
A sensible political stance
McDonald's

What else?

Brexit
Reading MN nobody would ever guess that more people voted for Brexit than for Remain.

Brexit is disliked in the real world as well.
It is a total disaster.

As someone that is absurdly liberal myself I have actually noticed the opposite. There are a lot of very right wing posters and views on here and it’s been getting worse of late.

I think MN used to lean quite liberal but not anymore.

I think those posters are just very loud and tenacious and tend to silence the more moderate/liberal people by using silly emoji to belittle them tbh (great example on this thread). I mean, whats the point of engaging with a different view when its going to be met with laugh emoji rather than a counter argument? I think if MN is reflective politically of the norms for its user demographic, then the right wing ranters are a vocal minority.

I think the strongest statistical factor determining whether someone would vote Remain was their education level, so it’s not surprising MN would skew that way. And of course it’s less popular among the general population now. I barely see Brexit mentioned at all on here nowadays, certainly not by Reform voters!

David Tennant.

This. See also Stephen Fry.

Emotional intelligence, being able to say to someone “hmm I don’t agree buts let’s not argue”. Putting oneself into the other persons shoes. Providing a moderate reply.

Which I suppose all stem from the lack of emotional intelligence.

At the risk of sounding like an uncouth heathen, what on earth do people use if they don't use toilet brushes or kitchen roll?! Their bare hands??

Are we supposed to like or hate them? And why?

Darling, this is Mumsnet. Posters here neither do smeary poos nor create mess.

Ditto kitchen roll? Am wracking my brains to find what's wrong with it.

WestwardHo1 · Yesterday 12:14

Or should that be racking?

I like David Tennant but can't stand Stephen Fry, the pompous windbag. Am I wrong?

God knows re the toilet brush. I bought a roll of washable cloth kitchen roll so use those now.

The collective IQ is dropping thanks to the influx of Reform voters and Americans though. It's becoming much more like the Daily Mail comments, and a lot less enjoyable. (Although I'm still here so hey-ho!)

Men and boys. That said, that isn't just Mumsnet, it is online in general. In real life, most men I know are lovely and I know just as many unpleasant women as men.

The understanding that people make decisions based on what they knew at the time, and sometimes make mistakes. I can't imagine anyone I know IRL saying 'why on earth did you marry this prince of a man?'as though it's the wittiest sentence ever.

Sorry not read the thread but I'm wondering if people will pretend not to understand what you're talking about or go straight into calling you a bigot

But it's not something you would say to your friend, just as you wouldn't say 'Fuck me, that's one ugly name' when a friend or relative tells you they've called the baby Lexi-Patricia. Whereas when someone posts on here about their DH's completely inability to cook, or how terribly puzzling it is that their DH has such a Big Job he needs to be out of the house 7-8am till 8 pm 6 days a week while a new friend has exactly the same job at the same level of seniority in the same office and manages to do it perfectly well between 9 and 5, and WFH two days a week, pointing out that they've married a dud may be completely accurate and useful.

There's no need for 'pretence'. People's idea of what a 'sensible political stance' might be is going to be entirely subjective. The OP has since clarified that she means a Conservative one. Which is definitely subjective.
