What's hated on MN, but insanely popular in real life?

Disney World
Starbucks, Costa, Nero etc
Center Parcs
A sensible political stance
McDonald's

What else?

Why would you think that?

No. I thought it was a stupid thing to post - and is meaningless without further explanation.

Agreed. It was stupid. She could have put left-wing or liberal, but she decided to childishly write it that way.

As someone that is absurdly liberal myself I have actually noticed the opposite. There are a lot of very right wing posters and views on here and it’s been getting worse of late.

I think MN used to lean quite liberal but not anymore.

Yes, it’s definitely becoming more right wing here. And despite all the clichés, Mumsnet is more racist than the world I live in.

Honestly one thing I’ve noticed is that no one here has ever tried drugs. Not even a spliff at uni. Pretty much everyone I know irl has done drugs including my mum and dad (65 and 72), I believe my grandad also partook in some cannabis to “see what all the fuss was about”. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, but pretty much across all my social circles (school friends who are very much working class, uni friends who were mostly middle class/upper middle class, and older people who I know) people have tried or experimented with drugs - so it’s not just me associating with some kind of criminal underclass.

One distinction though is my school friends did drugs in the UK where it’s illegal, a lot of my “posher” uni mates would go to Amsterdam to do it ect. To be honest most of them wouldn’t have known how to pick up and probably would have got scammed if I’m honest.

Edited

Some threads on clubbing do. I’ve certainly stated I’ve taken disco biscuits and snow. MN can be very judgy about this though. Liz Jones was outed on a thread here (I was there!) where she was seen taking coke and she got a lot of judgement. Not off me. But the thread was as funny as F.

I think I need definitions here to decide whether I'm left or right wing or in the middle.

How do you define left wing?

Men having the smallest amount of free will.

“Letting” or “allowing” DP to do something they’d like to do.

Another woman breathing too close to DP.

Not being a +1 to an event DP is invited to.

I thought that was saying men having the smallest penises. There can be bragging about DH’s appendage if it’s on the big side. No one seems to admit to a smaller one in their vagina or is told to dump them for it.

Privacy! Only on mumsnet have I seen people suggest leaving your baby outside the end cubicle and peeing with the door open. Every mum takes the pram into the accessible loo.

Dogs … usually at least one dog- bashing thread per week…

SUV or 4x4s … doesn’t matter that you might live on a farm, up in a hilly area or rurally, you are driving the Devils cart.

Fast food

Women who don’t work or work part time for whatever reason… how lazy!
even if you are a carer (or even keep a regular eye on) elderly parents, or do something else in your life - or - don’t need to work 😱 you are the worst of the worst!
I’ve never understood this attitude.. my DDad had a few mild strokes and def needed a regular eye keeping on him, and my ability to go to him immediately was invaluable. He often fell and got confused & needed helping. My friends Dmum was an alcoholic and prone to being problematic so she spent a fair time with her during school hours. Thabpnk heavens MNet was not around then! We both would have been berated!

Oh dear, hit a nerve did it?! 😂

This is the dumbest response to any post, and seems to recur on her frequently.

You haven’t “hit a nerve” every time someone disagrees with you. It’s just disagreement.

I find this is often what people say when their original point is particularly ill-founded.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Yesterday 15:55

Everyone loves dogs on mumsnet and in everyday life too. Everywhere. Not sure it’s that popular though.

As pp said cats crapping in gardens or being outside. As me and fellow cat owners say we don’t know where the cat shits and yes they’re allowed to roam. I’ve never given a flying F where my cats have gone. All neutered, spayed and chipped.

Toilet brushes.

I think this one has evolved. I was chastised by many on a thread maybe 18 months ago for NOT having a loo brush!

I would say MN is marginally less liberal than the general population.

Thinking about not just my friends and family but general people I meet, anyway.

Depends what the dog is doing, if it’s savaging someone and the owner says “he’s just being friendly” then huh? Or dog at table in pub restaurant. Or dog near patrons when out. Whether you like it or not. I don’t mind dogs though.

A sister is a bit more than 'someone you know'.

My ears would definitely prick up if I heard someone had married her sister's ex and my nosy self would wonder if he was a three year relationship kinda ex or a three dates ex, and what the sister's opinion was.

6 months relationship, not her longest by far. I said someone you know because people on here think you shouldn't date the ex of even a friend

The collective IQ is dropping thanks to the influx of Reform voters and Americans though. It's becoming much more like the Daily Mail comments, and a lot less enjoyable. (Although I'm still here so hey-ho!)

I only joined a couple of years ago. I thought it was going to be a middle class intellectual left wing cliché of a place. I was proved wrong.

I will always prioritize the safety of women and children.

I refuse to pander to the movement that women can become men or men become women. They can't.
