To let you know the axe and machete girl WAS defending herself against her now convicted attacker.

A lot of posters here need to see the conclusion of this story about the clearly terrified child, that so many people were quick to be awful about. You all owe this extremely vulnerable child you participated in the defamation of, a massive fucking apology. I'm genuinely so angry about how so many grown women denigrated a hurt and scared child. Her fear was so evident in her voice and demeanor and so many mothers here were quick to throw her under a bus. Well you've all been proven wrong now, with the man she was trying to defend herself from found guilty of assault.

Honestly, just think about what you people did, defending a man who assaulted a child just because she was of a class you deem beneath you. I hope you're very, very ashamed and take stock before more girls like her suffer worse.

I again ask you what you think a 12 year old girl being creeped on by a grown man should have done? Let him abuse her? Call the police who may not come in time and are more concerned about allegations of racism anyway.

Its all well and good sitting here judging a little girl for carrying a weapon but would tf do you think she should have done?

There are about 500 options open to a 12 year old if a predator is making lewd comments at her in the street that don’t involve being armed to the teeth with an axe and a knife, if you can’t think what those could be I can’t help you.
Call her parents, call the police, she was on the street so go into the closest shop and wait until there while I’m sure they would gladly phone the police and sit with her until they arrived.
The answer is not to carry an axe and a knife.

And if she hadn’t had weapons he wouldn’t have backed off at all and she could have been abused or raped.

What would you want your daughter to do? Just be defenceless and get abused?

I’d prefer she didn’t end up in prison, or injured or dead, because she attacked someone with a weapon she shouldn’t have had whilst on a street corner she shouldn’t have been on.

Honestly what are you people doing, just kicking your kids out the front door with their favourite knives, tell them to come home when it gets dark or they’ve finished their evening of knife waving?

Christ.

When I was her age I was being bullied by a group of other kids who’d chase me and beat me up if they caught me so I started taking a little pocket knife out with me.
Calling the police wouldn’t have worked, not much my parents could do and running into a shop they’d just wait outside for me.
So I get why she did it especially considering what we know about grooming now.

Obviously in this case it was.

Talk about victim blaming. Jesus christ.

Lot of victim blaming here I agree.

“call the police” the same police who let Henry Nowak die because they were too busy worrying about racism allegations

You carrying a knife as a child doesn’t make it right. I don’t agree with you doing it either.

And I’m sorry if this is harsh, but as a parent, there are lots of things you can do about that situation before your child starts carrying weapons.

ArmySal · Yesterday 10:00

I think you need to look up what victim blaming means.

How on earth is it victim blaming to say you don’t want anyone carrying an axe down their fucking trousers on the streets of the UK?

I think you need to look up what victim blaming means.

Blaming the victim of the harassment for defneding herself and her sister is victim blaming.

Maybe you need to consider that the girls are the victims in this scenario not the paedophile and his sister.

Of course there is a serious issue with men preying on girls, and women.

But children and adults carrying weapons to " defend themselves " is not the way to tackle the problem. Carrying offensive weapons is an issue in itself.

I’d agree that carrying weapons is unacceptable where did this girl even get a machete? That said it feels to me like an act of desperation by a child who is being failed.

Personally I think that any man who approached children in the park with “sexy time” suggestions should be getting their collar felt by the local constabulary. It’s the sort of behaviour that only escalates over time.

Yet paedophiles on the streets, which is the actual issue, not a problem?

Because The alternative is a little girl being defenceless against a creepy man who could have raped her

ArmySal · Yesterday 10:04

That’s not what victim blaming is.

Victim blaming here would be claiming that the man harassing her and assaulting her was her fault in the first place.

People are rightly saying she shouldn’t have been armed with 2 weapons. She’s a danger to herself and others doing so.

Not a machete for fucks sake.

I have 4 axes in my shed. And it wasn't even an axe it was a hatchet.

Shudacudawuda · Yesterday 10:05

Of course its not right that she was carrying weapons, but instead of blaming her we should be blaming the ADULTS that made her feel like she needed to.
Quite a few of those on this thread.

Telling females there are 500 other things you could have done other than defend yourself, is definitely blaming the victim for choosing the wrong action.

It is a tale as old as time.

Personally there was literally nothing my parents could have done, what do you think two middle aged people could have done to a group of teenagers? And calling the police when there was no evidence and the police would have done nothing.

I sincerely hope none of your children are ever in a situation like this

Well it’s the same police when it’s two different countries as far as policing powers go.

You can’t use something that hadn’t even happened yet as justification for something else. There is nothing to suggest if the children had called the police or gone into a shop and sat there while the police are called, that it wouldn’t have been taken seriously.

You simply cannot just say “well the police might not have done anything so I can just take matters into my own hands” that’s now how the norms and laws work in this country.

They wouldn’t be.

My kids don’t walk the streets or sit in parks, because unfortunately nowadays that’s dangerous.

They don’t know anyone who would carry an axe, or a hatchet, and if they did - they wouldn’t be allowed out with them. Because, I’m sure this isn’t news, I’m their parent and I’m in charge of their safety. If it’s not safe, they’re not doing it.

If they were being bullied, I’d deal with it like a grown up and not tool them up with weapons.

Honeyhonay · Yesterday 10:12

I’d argue pedophiles and people running around wielding axes on our streets are both among the some of the most serious threats.
