What popular places are overrated?

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

Bibury.
sold as a picturesque village. but rammed with coach trippers with sod all to do

St Ives.
Saved our visit till the last day.
I think we spent less than an hour there.

We just about drove through it, no where to park and just people and cars everywhere. Even if we had found a parking space I don’t think I would have wanted to get out.

Centre Parks. Food was awful and service lacklustre. It was 15 years ago though, so has probably improved.

It hasn't.

It's the outdoors for people who hate the outdoors.

Overpriced, money grabbing, chain restaurant hellhole.

The Eden Project. Preachy, nonsense of a place.

This.

It’s only so highly ranked on popularity because all of the tourists go there when it rains. (We did too, queued for about 90 mins to get in, then left after less than an hour! 😂)

Why would anyone visit East London ?

Betty's Tea Rooms
London
Basically every restaurant and take away these days
Marks and Spencer

Betty's is rubbish these days. Used to be wonderful in the 90s. If you're in Harrogate, try Mama Doreen's Emporium up near the station it is far superior.

The US. Lived there for a couple of years and travelled all over the country. Beautiful nature, but the rest Just, nah.

My daughter lives in Whitechapel and my days are packed with things to see. There's the Roman wall walk, the docks, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Spitalfields, Columbia Road flower market and loads of churches including St Paul's Cathedral - where you can walk over the Millennium Bridge to Borough market.

It's a great place.

Centre parcs is a hell hole for stupid people, I can't believe they claim to be eco when they have wrecked the countryside to build them.

See also Cruise ships.

Namechangergtr · Today 17:07

Any event that involves buying tickets through Ticketmaster or one of the other rip off ticketing companies. If I can't buy tickets direct from the venue then I don't go.

I really like it, and don't consider myself overly stupid!

I agree a bit about London. Depends where you go, but if you drive in down the North Circular it's drab and every house seems to have a front garden that no-one bothers with, and dustbins. In the centre over priced. Tube is ok, mostly clean. Everything is too expensive. Not the same as when I lived there in the 90s and the London of my childhood is completely gone.
Definitely agree about M&S - I think I saw one thing I would wear last time I went in to our local store and it took me 20 minutes to find where they had hidden the frying pans (wish I had gone to Asda - at least they label their aisles).

The U.K.?
It’s seen as a dream destination for so many immigrants but I feel sorry for them when they must realise how cold, expensive and unwelcoming it is.

Are you a time traveller? Or is there a hanging gardens of babylon that isn't the ancient wonder that's not existed for 2000 years?

Cornwall. All of it. Grin

I don’t think they like visitors much either! The last thread I saw, locals were so rude about ‘emmets’ that I decided it was in everyone’s interest if we didn’t visit again! We are
nice quiet and tidy tourists too!

Ooh thanks for the tip! Any other gems? We have been to Bettys in Harrogate and Ilkley and quite liked it but we are from a small island and easily pleased 😁 Now we have kids in uni in Leeds and NCL so will be doing more Yorkshire exploration in July and late August/Sept.

Bourton on the Water. Chill out everyone, it’s just a wide stream with a lot of expensive tourist shops either side. Ridiculously busy when it’s hot, as if no one has ever experienced standing ankle deep in water.

Absolutely agree with is add in two overheated fucked off teens, a broken foot in a boot and the dog randomly puked in the car museum. Never ever going back. Even DH couldn’t Mary Poppins us through that day.

Marylebone High Street in London is excellent for all types of restaurants and has an Oxfam shop. I love St James's Park as well but bring a picnic and use the toilets in the Supreme Court Parliament Square.

Clontash · Today 17:25

Liberty dept store. I live in London and people adore it. I find it dark and claustrophobic and can’t wait to escape. It’s my secret toilet stop though, when I am in the area, so that’s useful.
