AIBU to think schools should not allow students to wear black trainers all day, every day?

My child's high school is allowing students to wear black trainers all day. I think this is bad for their feet, more expensive for parents, and a drop in standards.

AIBU?

Their language skills would benefit from it, so why not.!

Our school has strict uniform. The head wears a skirt and blazer. They start uniform aged 2 and the girls wear knee high white socks until 14. Boys in shorts and shirts, no trainers, no silly hair cuts. They look incredibly neat and well presented. The parents wear dresses / chinos and shirts to sports day/ prize giving/ the Christmas concert. You can see everyone understands that how your present yourself reflects your attitude.

When I see children in trainers, half shaved heads, parents in tracksuit bottoms etc. It just gives of a sense of not caring. You don't carry yourself the same way or show discipline and hard work when you look scruffy.

Age 2? 😱

What kind of idiot does that to a child?

Yes aged 2, the school year they will turn 3.

I don't think I ever felt like I was doing something awful putting my boys in a shirt and my daughter in a blouse and pinafore. They would wear similar to a party anyway so it wasn't that alien.

They looked gorgeous and also had excellent manners from early on.

What people wear has no bearing on their manners. Surely you can see that.

Of course it does. How many times do you see kids wearing suits and ties causing mayhem on the streets?

Trainers are actually not very good for your feet.

Sod standards. Overly restrictive blazer and tie combos with no permission to remove in hot weather combined with dress shoes is crackers for full day wear.

Bring on the drop in standards with trainers! Our school allows joggers and a hoody … comfortable kids can learn better.

Agree.

Being allowed to wear trainers is long overdue. They are good for the feet, comfortable and versatile.

So you've made yourself the dictator of others people's shoe choice for their children? What's it to you what shoes other people's children wear to school? You can dictate what YOUR child wears, but not what others people's children wear! The school "allows" the wearing of trainers, it doesn't mandate them. If you don't want your child to wear them, then don't buy them. Simple. Don't try and push your wants on to every other parent. Too many people are too invested in others people's business these days!

Little children need clothes they can be comfortable in and play in.

Manners have nothing to do with clothes.

'They look gorgeous' makes it all about you, not what's right for a tiny child.

I've seen kids having fights, generally causing mayhem in their school uniforms, all wearing blazers and ties. If someone is going to behave badly their clothes don't change that.

I'm just after going to a podiatrist who specifically recommended trainers.

Oddly enough my kids went to an excellent nursery with no uniform and yet also managed to have excellent manners from an early age. And of course they too looked gorgeous - and were comfortable.

I didn't say everyone needs to, just that they are clearly not bad for your feet.
