Father of the perpetrator hides evidence.

Mohammed Algasim has black hair combed back and a moustache. He is wearing a white shirt and smiling while sitting at a restaurant table.

Man who stabbed student to death in Cambridge is jailed for life

Chas Corrigan, 22, will serve a minimum of 22 years for the murder of Mohammed Algasim last August.

Why have you added a poll?

friedaklein · 05/06/2026 08:11

Poll not intended. will try to remove.

Two tier? Doubt it. I don’t think people will give a shit about this Saudi student OP.
This talk about two tier is ridiculous to compare what the police did to Henry to George Lloyd is shocking. The police made a mistake they were not racist. People are acting like black and brown people don’t die in police custody and are not believed across the board they just get a lessons will be learned response . The far right latching onto this like ‘finally, white people can have racism too!’ The police officers who didn’t believe Henry were white. In George Floyd’s case they were not black and those police officers were praised and had gofundmes set up for them.
Also wondering why the far right aren’t protesting about the three white boys who got away with gang raping a 14 year old, ‘save our kids’ yeah for yourself.

friedaklein · 05/06/2026 08:20

Sorry, no idea how to remove the poll. Pl ignore. Not well versed with AIBU.

No doubt posters will ask what my AIBU is, but I think we all know AIBU used for greater visibility now, by most.

Awful that this poor student was murdered by that piece os scrum, whose parent tried to cover it up - awful. But this poor student wasn't arrested at the scene and disbelieved while dying. That's the difference between his and Henry Nowak's murder.

Both losses of life are awful.

Well I do. Poor, poor boy and his poor parents who I'm sure must have been so proud of him going to Cambridge.

CoffeeCantata · 05/06/2026 08:25

There have been so many cases of university students being attacked and killed by randoms. Is this random, or are they targeted by resentful people?

I'm thinking of the Nottingham tragedy particularly.

I agree there is a difference.

The perpetrator in the Notts case was mentally ill.
I have a DS at Cambridge. Worrying increase in knife crime.

“That’s the difference between his and Henry Nowak’s murder”

They are completely different situations that it is absurd to compare them, especially if you are attempting to compare the police response to the victims. Algasim had no contact with the police while alive, he wasn’t in a position to be disbelieved. Off duty Drs nearby had already attempted to save him. This is not a case of “the police believed one victim but not the other”.

CoffeeCantata · 05/06/2026 09:21

I notice that the perpetrator admitted to extremely heavy drinking and drug use before the attack.

I wonder if this was meant to be some kind of defence? I certainly hope not. Being drunk in public and taking illegal drugs should compound the offence, not mitigate it.

Both son and father sound disgusting. But they're still alive and this clever, hard-working boy is dead.

friedaklein · 05/06/2026 09:22

It's interesting that nobody has argued that Chas Corrigan's dad concealed evidence because of his culture, though.
Knife culture is the most worrying culture to me.

W0tnow · 05/06/2026 09:25

Ok so the perpetrator was wasted on drugs and alcohol. How can anyone be sure of the significance of his race in this particular crime? Or the victim’s race? Maybe it’s just male violence….again…and again.

friedaklein · 05/06/2026 09:33

Male violence is the key issue, no doubt. I despair of a solution.

The mother of one of the Nottingham victims, Barnaby Webber, is questioning whether the killings by Valdo Calocane were random.

'[Calocane] was a black man who killed three white people and tried to kill another three white people, and that was never part of the conversation.

Nottingham victim's mum asks why son's murder wasn't treated as racism

Emma Webber, mother of Nottingham stabbing victim Barnaby, has warned 'difficult discussions' need to be had over how authorities are influenced by racism.

Grace O'Malley Kumar was mixed race.

What's worrying me is that earlier most knife crimes seemed gang related. That was tragic enough but at least if you kept your DC out of gangs, they were relatively safe. Now, it's a bunch of angry men carrying knives lashing out randomly.
Correct me if I am wrong on this.

Yes, it does seem to be increasingly happening. A family friend’s son was stabbed and killed last year - had an argument in a cafe with a couple of guys on the table next to them, and after they left one of the men stabbed him. You see strangers arguing over stupid things all the time - you’d never think it would end in someone dying.

There was also that story of a teenage boy randomly stabbed and killed by a stranger, who was another teenager boy.

It seems to be angry young men, always.

“don’t think people will give a shit”? That’s a disgusting thing to say.
You think the people (most people I would say?) who cared about Henry Nowak would not care about this young man just because he’s not white?
Well I do, both young men at the start of their lives. Tragic.
People are still allowed to be disgusted with the police about how they treated Henry though, and we’re allowed to raise valid concerns regarding carrying dangerous weapons

Not sure what OP is trying to achieve here? “Look another murder, this guy isn’t white” I mean are we meant to be happy?

Male violence is the key issue, no doubt. I despair of a solution.

And booze and drugs.

So many criminals are habitual drunks or drug users. Not saying it wouldn't happen without these things, but I think it's a factor.

Chdfn · 05/06/2026 12:33

Ds is scared one day he'll come across the wrong person and just get stabbed. He worries for his DSisters a lot

We all worry about young women - and rightly so.

But I think statistically young men are more likely to be the victims of these random attacks by other young men.

Horrible. The only thing worse than knife culture is gun culture in the sense that you have to be at very close range to attack someone with a knife.

From what you quoted, there was no attempt at reason being made? Some frothing and irrational bile was the only content.
