Does anybody else dislike Pride?

We have one in our town for the second year running, and it's just really off.

Now before I get the "don't be homophobic comments" I am very much live and let live.

It's just that it can be very adult in the middle of the day.

Has it occurred to you that this kind of reason-free, irrelevant issue-bundling attack is a huge reason for the rise of the very things you claim to oppose? And increasingly looks to many people like an exercise in narcissistic self congratulation rather than any kind of true social conscience and desire to effect change?

It's just the same old bigot playbook. Nothing new.

Most people disagree with you.

You're homophobic. I assume you're also anti trans and vote Reform.

It's just the same old bigot playbook. Nothing new.

Well most people (69 %) do agree so you are factually incorret. And this isn't about voting intentions or trans tights. It's a discussion on a view that Pride has become over sexualised and isn't family friendly anymore.
So you can have a view on that and put a reasoned argument on both sides, but just stating something as fact, which isn't, extrapolating voting intentions as an insult when you have no idea how the OP votes and labeling someone as being prejudiced because they have put forward a reasoned opinion that doesn't agree with your opinion is very much part of the current problem with debates.
Why not cut out the soundbite insults and put a reasoned and rationale post to inform us as to why we are wrong based on your opinion, experience or facts.
That's going to help people think openly about this much more than just insulting them.

No. It's the appeal to fear that Hitler also used.

What was the last thing you did for your community? If you're so worried about social conscience. Personally, I did something for my local area before 9.30am this morning.

Put your actions where your mouth is (and I don't mean littering flags on lamp posts and then leaving them to the local council to remove when they are in rags).

Oh bullshit. 69% of the UK absolutely does not support Reform.

This is just hilarious! LOL.

Godwin as well.

I would say you're not helping your cause, but actually you are, since your cause is your own self image, and this kind of nonsense certainly makes you look good to you.

Word salad there I'm afraid. But you're entitled to your own opinion. It just happens to be homophobic.

I think the 69% refers to the amount of people who agree with OP.

It's just the same old bigot playbook. Nothing new.

Once you see it, that's it.
It plays out exactly the same. Whether it's racism, or homophobia, or whatever, it's exactly the same script.
Whether it's discriminating/prejudiced against all people who are black because "people in boats/migrants" or against people who are gay because of the "grooming/indoctrinating our children" into their way of life... It all plays out the same.
"Legitimate concerns" for "our" women and children.
Which turns out to usually just be a cover as most of them could not give a shiny shit about women most of the time and a lot of the time are abusive/wanting to roll back rights for them too.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 05/06/2026 10:24

So nobody can ever call out parallels if they see them "because Godwin?"

You're just trying to rage bait and deflect into a competition of who's the better person. Like I said, you and people like you, assuming you aren't trolls, are in this for your own self image. In that, I guess it's successful. It's just a shame it's so destructive to all the people you pretend to care about. I wish you guys would take up a musical instrument or something.

Wow, you're really something! As your name says, calm the fuck down

You’re right, HappyJoe. I am ‘something’. I’m a woman who takes no shit. I speak up when I see the need to.

No, HappyJoe. I won’t ’calm down’. I will continue to speak strongly about foolish people who speak with smug confidence about how inclusive and tolerant they are and how silly women like OP and I are.

There’s quite a pattern of idiots telling people to ‘calm down’ and ‘stop making a fuss’ and ‘stop exaggerating’ when it comes to voicing concerns about protecting children from paedophiles and early sexualisation. So I’ll be here all day to argue with you. Just tell me why you feel so confident that there’s nothing to worry about with relation to Pride. Then I’ll get my evidence ready.

When they're absolutely risible parallels like calling someone Hitler because they object to fetishistic daytime displays in public places, yeah, of course. But you know that.

That's probably as much feeding as I should give.

I don't live in a bubble fortunately. I work with people who span upper middle class down to what sociologists would describe at the underclass. That includes people from at least 10 different countries.

The only individuals who share those wider perspectives are either very working class white Americans or from families steeped in racism and bigotry.

We only have to look back at the laughing stock the National Front and the British National Party were (Nick Griffin on Question Time) to see that although there is some populist support for fascism that ultimately, very few want a fascist UK government.

Not helped by the fact that even those Reform members who WERE elected to local government are either dropping out again, fast, or who haven't got a clue what they're doing.

Even when they DO vote against events such as Pride, local communities come in and make up the financial difference (Durham Pride). Because ultimately, the majority of Brits aren't bigots.

Sure, sure. Well, you can’t say you weren’t warned.

I'd rather work with young people in my local area. It actually does some good. There is no rage in my posts. I hold political opinions in the same way you do. The difference is yours is anchored in dislike of others.

Speaking of musical instruments, you're whingeing away on the world's smallest violin fairly well there. 😂

I never said they did. The OP posted that they were pleased that the majority agreed with her original post. A poster then stated that the majority didn't agree. I quoted that poster because 69 percent on this thread who voted did agree so it was not correct to say the majority didn't agree. Nothing to do with reform, nothing to do with UK wide opinion. Just votes on this thread which was exactly what OP was saying.
Hope that is clear now.

MY GOD that is such an old and pathetic trope. Gay people as paedophiles.

When in actuality, the paedophiles are primarily heterosexual men.

It was perfectly intelligible to anyone not being wilfully obtuse. And the most mainstream homophobia at the moment is coming not from Reform but from trans activism.

You’re laughing at us with your classist lense. Most people like you look down upon those in different socio economic circumstances whilst preaching equality. There’s been a lot of Labour MPs done over recently for child SA so whilst Reform have some unsavoury characters, so do the apparent champion party of the working class.

But just so you know, we’re laughing at you thinking a 6ft bloke with a 5 o clock shadow saying he’s a lesbian with a lady dick is just as much a woman as you. Then you most likely preach about patriarchy and women’s rights thinking you’re so virtuous. We may be working class people who often work in trades or have experienced economic disparity and difficulty, but we know what a bloody man and woman are.

You and your ilk are the reason we’re seeing parties like Reform gain power because a moderate position is deemed unkind and not far enough these days. You reap what you sow and you’re the ones waving in the apparent facists by emulating facist and bigoted behaviour yourself.

I'm working class. Proudly so. What lens do I have?

There's a fair bit of hysteria in your post there.

Pointing out parallels in tactics/behaviour doesn't mean they're saying that you're him 😕

I've been to several Prides starting in 2018 and I have never seen anything even close to that.

As for Pride being demonic - that's a graphic being used by homophobic evangelicals who highlight priDEMONth. Pathetic.

We still need Pride. We will need it until there are 0 countries in the world where LGBT people are not persecuted for being who they are.

Do you really think some guy attending a pride march in Brighton dressed as a furry and being dragged along on a lead is going to convince governments in far flung countries to support same sex relationships ? If anything it is going to convince them not to.

There’s no hysteria in my post (nice use of the often male misogynistic word to downplay a woman’s opinion btw).

I’m just sick of people like yourself talking down to working class people and making out we’re all thick because we don’t conform to kink displays and men invading women’s spaces and immediately comparing us to the BNP who haven’t been around in decades (eye roll). There is a real concern that parties like Reform will gain power and you downplaying real societal issues will inevitably lead to harder policies from parties and the pendulum swinging too far the other way to compensate.

As I said, you reap what you sow. You can chortle to your hearts content but they’re leading in the polls. Same as everyone laughed and chortled at Trump but he’s behind the desk at the White House. If you don’t meet people in the middle, those people will choose a harsher option. But as long as you just laugh at others concerns then I’m sure we’ll all be okay.

Then read the thread!

I'm not here to do your reading for you or to serve up people's narcissistic supply as they exploit social issues to satisfy their self image with absolutely no thought to reality.

It should be obvious that when you consistently accuse people of being far right over things that clearly aren't far right at all, you're going to make them wonder what's so terrible about being far right. And if you then start a campaign about how wonderfully moral this makes you and how totally evil it makes everyone else, that's going to make people totally disregard you as a moral authority because you clearly aren't one.

It's just a mentally masturbatory narcissistic exercise. The problem is that it actually drives support for stuff like Reform and homphobia, but these people are actually ok with that as long as they can feel like they're superior.

Ugh, that's way more feeding than I intended to give. I feel used and dirty. Perhaps I'll get centre stage on some current Pride events.
