Does anybody else dislike Pride?

Does anybody else dislike Pride?

We have one in our town for the second year running, and it's just really off.

Now before I get the "don't be homophobic comments" I am very much live and let live.

It's just that it can be very adult in the middle of the day.

Well don’t attend it then, simple. Not everybody has to like everything

coulditbeme2323 · 04/06/2026 13:13

It isn't that simple at all, if it was a closed event - then yes I would agree.

Can you be a bit more expansive about what the problem is you have with Pride?

AllaMova · 04/06/2026 13:15

Why is it, if your words “off”?

Don’t attend, no-one will force you to do so.

Whatwerewetalkingabout · 04/06/2026 13:15

I love it! Great festival atmosphere, nothing more adult then any other carnival event if you're talking about costumes? Our local one is really family friendly. Lots of facepainting and story time stuff too. Colourful and wonderful and I know it helps alot of people. Xx

Getmeacoffeenow · 04/06/2026 13:15

I dislike the fact that people are persecuted and bullied because of who they love more.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/06/2026 13:16

Can't wait for ours.

Yes, last year it was held in a public park in our town and spilled out into the town itself.

There were some extremely adult outfits, bondage etc, and I didn't think it was appropriate for the middle of the day.

I wont attend, but it spills over.

Jesus Christ, it’s once a year OP. Get a grip.

There are lots of things I don’t enjoy, but I just don’t go. In fact I haven’t been to Pride many times as I’m not brilliant with crowds, but that’s a me issue.

Pride is an inherently joyful, non violent event. You don’t hear of riots, crime and arrests at Pride, people just go to enjoy themselves and to be visible.

LGBT people still encounter a lot of prejudice, and it’s on the rise again with the likes of Reform becoming more prominent. Companies who once loved jumping on what seemed like a safe bandwagon to advertise their product are dropping off - they were only allies when it was safe. I would say it’s needed more than ever.

PauliesWalnuts · 04/06/2026 13:18

I don't like ours - it's very gay-man/trans woman-centric and they've bullied out the lesbians. Pride is great if you're a flamboyant, camp, person with a penis but if you deviate from that they don't want you involved.

That’s fine, you don’t need to really, you can avoid town once a year if it bothers you. Others do like it, so like you say, live and let live

Oh Lord save us from adult outfits!

So much worse than the actual violence that takes place at right-wing events.

Jamesblonde2 · 04/06/2026 13:19

Yes I think it’s adult OP. Bit too much grating for my liking.

No, it's not live and let live - when it comes to children seeing sexual outfits in the middle of the day! That's just wrong.

You are free to dislike it, I dislike some things. I avoid them even when they "spill over" e.g. football parades, marches/protests.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/06/2026 13:19

Just avoid town then.

Grating? What are they grating? I hope it’s cheese rather than carrot.

Are the two connected?

Can't both things be bad?

Yes as in live your life how you want, but I don't think it's right to be walking through the middle of a town at lunch in full on bondage gear.

Lomonald · 04/06/2026 13:20

You don't have to like it, you don't have to even look at it if you are in town ! I understand it might be a bit "adult" and some things really need to be in private, but in general I have no real issues with pride month or marches.

Maybe just look away from the flasher in the park too?

CasperGutman · 04/06/2026 13:21

Some of the outfits relating to the bondage aesthetic/lifestyle do make me uncomfortable, and I can understand some people wanting to avoid such things with children as it is quite confronting and could lead to questions they find awkward.

But then isn't that basically the whole point? Overall I think the event is overwhelmingly positive.
