Political badges should be banned from NHS uniforms

New report says political badges such as Pro Palestine shouldn't be worn on NHS uniforms. It's led to increased antisemitism and fear amongst Jewish patients.

Also NHS uniforms not to be worn on protests.

This report makes a number of suggestions and in my opinion must be implemented. All political badges off NHS uniforms. No NHS uniforms on protests such as pro Palestine. It contributes to racism and fear.

The NHS should treat all patients equally and individuals political opinions shouldn't be pinned on their uniforms.

I can’t see why they were ever allowed.

Ihatetomatoes · 04/06/2026 08:30

This applies to all political badges. The NHS is a mix of people of all backgrounds and its uniforms shouldn't be used for individuals political protest.

I agree. No political insignia of any sort should be allowed.

I agree.

It's for health treatment for all. The report shows that Jewish people have hidden their faith, even avoided treatment due to antisemitism. There is no place for racism and antisemitism in the NHS.

To people who think political badges should be worn, why do you think so?

Badges, lanyards, stickers, decor - should all be uniform.

EwwSprouts · 04/06/2026 08:33

You as an individual can hold any opinion and protest in support of it. But you can't pretend the whole NHS shares your view or try to project that your voice should carry more weight as an NHS employee (industrial protests aside).

Ihatetomatoes · 04/06/2026 08:34

"Lord Mann told the BBC: "The NHS should not be a place where you bring in your views. And the stronger the views, the bigger the problem."

"An 'I support Palestine' badge, or anything like that, is a problem for some people, just in the same way as an 'I support Israel' badge is a problem for some people. Don't wear either," he added."

I'm reallty susprised they aren't already. You are at work. Political statements are wholly inappropriate.

Indeed so no badge wearing of any sort to show your politics. Patients shouldn't be fearful of using the NHS.

The same should hold for schools. Some schools are hotbeds of indoctrination.

WomanSubjectFucksVerbManObject · 04/06/2026 08:36

This is the result of "taking your whole self to work".

Nope it's work. Just go there, do your job and come home and be your whole self there. Angry

PrincessOfPreschool · 04/06/2026 08:38

I'm surprised. You wouldn't be allowed badges of any sort on a school uniform either. And I very much doubt teachers could wear political badges into class.

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/06/2026 08:30

Me neither. Totally unprofessional

I agree. Also NHS uniforms shouldn't be worn on protests. A woman showed on report wearing Palestinian flags, Palestinian headscarf, NHS uniform and mask to cover her face. Wrong. The NHS is not to be used.

NO stop using the NHS which is for treatment not politics.

Good. Why some NHS employees felt this was ever appropriate reflects on them. Very unprofessional.

Completely agree, what has happened in Palestine is genocide and the perpetrators of genocide should be brought to justice and fully punished with the full rigor of the law.

But the way that protestors are overlooking the very complex history and nuance of the region is mind bogglingly awful. Iran has destabilised the region by funding the most despicable terrorist organisations imaginable, who could not give a shit about their own people, in service of blowing Isreal from the face of the Earth

The Jewish people outside of Isreal are being treated hatefully in service of this shit.

While personally I couldn’t give a shit about rainbow lanyards they should be a casualty of this too. The trans ideology is extremely divisive and not based on anything logical or rational so it needs to be saved for activists to do outside of workplaces as should be tolerated in any democracy but not for mainstream non political organisations.

ThatsNicer · 04/06/2026 08:41

Start with removing the Rainbow Lanyards.

Same here. I can’t believe this is allowed and needs a report.

The same should hold for schools. Some schools are hotbeds of indoctrination.

A teacher at a Grammar school near us did a persuaive writing exercise with year 9 where they all had to write and ask our MP to "stop the Genocide in Gaza"
I think a lot of people are very naive as to the extent of what has been going on.

TheKeatingFive · 04/06/2026 08:42

Absolutely. A workplace is not the arena to signal political affiliations, especially when you're dealing with the public. Do all that on your own time.

Exactly, keep your politics out of work. The report looks at antisemitism in the NHS. Some individuals are clearly unable to separate politics abroad and individuals in the UK who have nothing to do with what occurs elsewhere.

I have no idea why people thought it was OK to wear any kind of political badge at work in the first place and it makes sense to ban them.

Soontobe60 · 04/06/2026 08:36

Maybe it depends on the school. They are very strict in my kids' school and the only indoctrination is the importance of attendance, as well as zero tolerance on racist or sexist abuse.
