To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

It's an extreme reaction to cancel flights/holiday.

AmethystDeceiver · 30/05/2026 22:35

Why would Ryanair do something that means every single person flying with them will miss their flight??

@idontwanttogoanymore you're being unreasonable and your anxiety has got the best of you. If you think to yourself - it works for the majority of other people - will your brain get to: so it will probably work for me?

That's what I do when I have this kind of anxiety

Ryanair are cunts. They'd probably still fly and not refund anyone, citing that security issues are not their problem!
They did similar during COVID with us.
They flew EMPTY planes, rather than cancel them so they didn't have to refund anyone. This was during a period of govt saying no travel unless absolutely necessary.

fancytoes · 31/05/2026 09:00

God, some people are so bananas. I bet you don’t cancel your holiday. Do come back and let us know, won’t you?

Namechangeforthisdilemma1 · 31/05/2026 09:01

Yes you would if that was who you booked with. That’s literally why people use travel agents and don’t just book themselves 🤣

Went through Madrid yesterday - dh on his British passport and ds and I on our Irish. It was quite challenging because there was really no one around managing massive crowds. Dh got to the kiosk eventually to discover they already had his fingerprints so he should have just gone to queue up at the gate. Ds and I glided through with our EU passports, picked up the luggage for everyone - sussed out where to catch the transit bus, then briefed dh so he wasn't wasting time and we made it to our onward transportation with enough time for a sandwich - we were channeling race around the world vibes - a bit.😅

5arkypants · 31/05/2026 09:04

I flew Ryanair a couple of weeks ago. The queue at the check in was massive when we arrived 2.5 hours early. We got in the queue and it was 25mins and they let us check bag a bit early. Don’t panic.

simpsonthecat · 31/05/2026 09:04

How weird to call people disagreeing with you, and citing examples of no problem with queues... as bullying

Oh for goodness sake. If you think any of the replies to you breach the talk guidelines, report them.

It's literally nothing to do with Brexit

You do realise the rules are for people who aren't EU nationals, right? If the OP is a British citizen then the fact she has to follow the new rules is a direct result of Brexit. It's depressing that this isn't blindingly obvious.

OP, you are massively overreacting. Check in online on the Ryanair app. Then drop your bags (bag drop definitely opens more than two hours before departure). As others have said, every non-EU citizen is in the same boat as you and going on holiday as normal (including myself, currently in Italy).

Gazelda · 31/05/2026 09:07

So what are you going to do OP?

cancel and be miserable. Blame the EU, Starmer, Ryanair for your lost holiday?

or read up some more, listen to the advice and reassurance you’ve received on this thread?

oh, and you should maybe think about how you respond to posters who’ve tried to be kind and give heartfelt advice /experience. Some of your replies have been rude and seen bullying where there is none.

Ryanstartedthefire2 · 31/05/2026 09:09

How do you deal with hardship in your life if minor things like this get you so upset? You just go and enjoy it!

ITMA2000 · 31/05/2026 09:09

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:32

It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve had this holiday planned for a year and now I can’t go because of fucking Brexit, which I’ve never agreed with. It’s maddening

So a few hours delay going on holiday trumps the benefits of Brexit, which include taking control of our own laws, no longer having unelected politicians, making our own trade deals around the world, and controlling our borders?
I think you will find most people think a border delay is a price worth paying!

simpsonthecat · 31/05/2026 09:10

I cannot imagine cancelling a holiday, losing money, probably a lot... for something that given the odds, won't happen.
Very odd indeed.

N o. I hate everything about Brexit. Worse decision ever. But it won't stop me travelling!

You posted in AIBU. Posters are merely pointing out you are being unreasonable.

I can understand why people are worried because the media are falsely telling everyone it’s awful entering and leaving the EU. That may be true for some travellers but lots of us have travelled without issue over the last few weeks. We queued at an airport for 3 hours on entry last year. This year, we were straight through at the same airport (an airport which the media have been saying is one of the worst). Leaving was just as straightforward.

Travel always involves a degree of risk which you need to be prepared to deal with (lost luggage/medical issues whilst abroad/flight delays and cancellation/security problems etc). It’s part of life. To be honest, as a traveller who obviously struggles with dealing with minor inconveniences, I’m confused why you chose to fly with Ryanair. They’re not known for their customer service when things go wrong (I say that as someone who has flown with them lots). They’re not even that cheap by the time you’ve paid for checked luggage etc.

For your trip, you can avoid some of the hassle by travelling with hand luggage only.

I wouldn't be surprised if you also dislike Farage and Tommy Robinson.

Booboobagins · 31/05/2026 09:18

I've used the ees multiple times now. My biometrics on my red passport don't work so I have to see a person at border control. I now just head there and if asked I saw my biometrics don't work.

Yes there are queues, but arrive 2 hours before and you're sweet. Better still travel with just carry on luggage and you can get there even earlier if your anxious.

I don't know what happened with those who missed their flights tbh, but in multiple countries and places in the med, I've had no issues.

ITMA2000 · 31/05/2026 09:16

I loathe both of them. Most decent people do I think.

Not that it's relevant to the OP's thread of course.

Crafta · 31/05/2026 09:19

Would it be easy if you just took hand luggage, then there isn't the added worry of suitcases going missing

CaesarAugusta · 31/05/2026 09:19

OP, there are lots of people on this thread reassuring you that this isn't the problem you think it is, but you still insist that you are not going to be able to make your plane. Why are you ignoring them all?

Littlecrake · 31/05/2026 09:21

Why don’t you just go to the airport 3 hours before your flight - as per the recommendation?

I flew wizz air from France a few years ago and they had one desk to check bags with the worlds slowest woman and we were there AGES but eventually they got everyone through and we were escorted rapidly through security and passport control. The flight was full - everyone made it, including the 20+ people waiting behind us who had to wait for the next bus across the tarmac. They get you through when they need to. You don’t have to cancel. You are choosing to.

I flew to Spain and back last month with the new system. The wait was 5 minutes or so. My friend was in Milan last weekend - tbf she didn’t say it was a breeze but also she didn’t say it was a problem and she definitely didn’t miss her flight.

Well, no. Those benefits just didn't happen, did they? Or rather yes, we could make our own trade deals, they were just on much more unfavourable terms, and if anything immigration increased.

As for "most people" thinking anything about Brexit was worth it, the polls show the opposite.

They could easily negotiate a deal with the EU wherein we’re excluded from those checks. But he has to pretend to be a man of the people with his “Gooner” status.

Is this a wind up!

😂

Why blame the government for something that was created by Farage and Johnson. To be honest you sound like someone who should not be travelling further than your local town. 7 million people travelled to Europe last month , they coped
