To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

I’m not sure anyone will change your mind at this point but if you are (presumably as travelling solo) travelling outside of school holidays the queues will not be so bad.
I’ve flown a few times since and it didn’t seem to be any different to previously queue wise.

friskybivalves · 31/05/2026 08:27

Please stay at home. I’m also Italy-bound this summer and the thought of bumping into you in a hysterical lather at any airport in the UK or Italy is enough to put me off my negroni.

You can’t just walk out from being airside and pick up a bag that’s been put on another plane 😂

You’re right, they lock you in there and you live the rest of your life in the airport.

You ask someone and they take you through. (As an aside, at some airports you can do exactly this).

In fact, the last time I flew I was told I should have done exactly that and so my bags didn’t fly with me, I just didn’t know I was supposed to do that. There’s a process for these things.

It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve had this holiday planned for a year and now I can’t go because of fucking Brexit, which I’ve never agreed with. It’s maddening

Awful situation. All I can suggest it plan everything and ride it out.

Enjoy our " sovereignty"

Besafeeatcake · 31/05/2026 08:35

OP your irrationality and complete unwillingness to listen to anyone else is worrying.

Millions of people are travelling with some delays. - you are completely catastrophising.

Go on your holiday - you may be surprised and find out it’s fine.

Leave the governemnet, Starmer, champions league football etc out of it. You sound unhinged.

travelallthetime · 31/05/2026 08:37

Im a travel agent, the media like to shit on us everytime, stop watching the news.

8 weeks ago we had three weeks of fuel before planes were going to fall from the sky.....guess what, still flying

now this with the EES, yes, some airports are taking a while to get through, however, there are more that arent, ive had hundreds fly to and through Europe, guess what, literally none missed their flight.

Remember the drama about Tenerife? My clients were through in 10 minutes.....

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 31/05/2026 08:39

Yes YABU , grow up and adult ffs.
Or cancel your holiday . The only one that suffers and is out of pocket is you .

fundamentallyauthentic · 31/05/2026 08:41

All fine for me last week flying out from Prague with Ryanair.

You’re not even flying in the summer holidays (which may be very different to how things are now). But get there three hours early and maybe have a drink soon after arriving.

Part of your anxiety is because you’re scheduled to arrive in Milan at 9.30pm but your Airbnb closes for check in at midnight. It was silly to have booked your flight for this time because your flight could be delayed, you could be held up at the airport, and then you factor in travel to the accommodation. Are you inexperienced with travelling?

Millions of Brits will brave the EES this summer.
Somehow, somehow, they have mustered the strength to spend an extra 15 minutes in a queue.

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 31/05/2026 08:44

You obviously don’t want to accept that it’s fine. My DW flew to Denmark a week or so ago, and through a series of unfortunate events ended up at the airport 1hour 15 mins before the flight was due to depart. She managed to park, do security and still had time for a wee and a drink before her gate was even called. Flight was with Ryanair

Scottishskifun · 31/05/2026 08:44

You can definitely do luggage drop before 2 hours with Ryanair when flying out it's mostly automated machines now. I always arrive 3 hours before a glight never had a problem UK side.

When flying back it's airport dependent to set up but they are also allowing 3 hours now at most.

Yes EES is a pain but it's not going anywhere.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 31/05/2026 08:44

Why don't you go with hand luggage only? Surely that would make it easier for you?

Not a troll. Just someone who’s concerned.

Travel agents wouldn’t be the first person you call. Especially at a weekend.

Arrived into Malaga earlier this month and registered with the new system and it was honestly the quickest I've ever been through that airport. Around 40 mins from getting off plane we were in our taxi. Don't know what all the fuss is about.

notacooldad · 31/05/2026 08:48

I went to Spain 3 weeks ago alone to meet my friend. There was a bit of a queue going through but no problem. Me and Dh went to italy a week ago. There was some slight confusion. Dh did his details and was handed a green card but I wasn't. I was directed to one passport control, dh to another. No problem. We came back last night with no issues what's so ever.

We arrived at the airport 3 hours in advance in truthfully we ended up way too early. Our luggage was dropped off in miutes and the longest bit was walking from baggage drop off to security!.
Ds went to Czech Republic on Monday. He WhatsApped us for a chat, again no problem at all.
You are making this into your own catastrophe.

Chilly80 · 31/05/2026 08:53

I've just been to Tenerife with Children arrived 2 hours before yes there was a queue but didn't miss my flight. Adults could use machines and didn't need to see a person.

Are you bringing deliberately antagonistic and/or obtuse?

My sister in law has her own travel business and if any of her clients have travel issues she is the first person they call. This includes missed flights, issues with insurance and airport parking.

Why didn't you start off by saying you just wanted a rant & an argument, people could have saved their energy trying to reassure you & help you.

you know best, clearly.

Just stay here & spend your birthday moaning about Brexit & Starmer...

Strumpetpumpet · 31/05/2026 08:53

We had an awful time flying into Rome and out of Naples recently. We’re going to Norway in July and we have to change flights in Oslo. The first thing I did when we got home from Italy was to change our Norway flights to increase the amount of time between them. - cost a fortune and involved booking an additional night in Oslo on the way home, but the other alternative would have been to cancel the holiday, as I would have spent the whole time worrying about the journey so I don’t blame you op. It’s a shitshow - yet another brexit benefit.

Duvetdayneeded · 31/05/2026 08:53

With all due respect OP, you’ve got issues. Just get to the airport early and hope that you’ll be one of the millions who get through without any grief of any kind. Dont overcomplicate this

Stoicandhappy · 31/05/2026 08:53

I’m not sure if OP is mentally unwell, suffering from extreme anxiety, or if she is trying (and massively failing) to make a political point.

Assuming it’s the former, remind yourself that the vast majority of travelers are getting around seamlessly. You are catastrophising about something that’s very unlikely to happen.

I am wondering if there is something else going wrong in your life and you have fixated on this, rather than facing the real issue?

previouslyknownas · 31/05/2026 08:55

Just interested
how do you manage in everyday life
Because the way your acting isn’t normal
no normal person would get this stressed about something millions of people do every day of the week

I mean if your this stressed about going on holiday
it’s not worth it if you are getting this anxious

just stay at home - make a GP appointment for your anxiety because your not being normal or rational

simpsonthecat · 31/05/2026 08:55

Seriously OP, if you have just started this thread to have a go at Starmer, you are failing badly!

ALL airlines put out info saying turn up 3 hours before, they were doing that before EES. They just like to cover themselves.

I fly back and forth from Europe a lot, the most I have waited was about 30 minutes. Often straight through. My DD, her partner and baby flew last week, bit of a queue but about 40 minutes, and only because of baby.

If you are going to cancel a holiday because you might have to queue, that's up to you!

Fast800goingforit · 31/05/2026 08:57

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:26

They have literally just said on the news you need to be through security three hours before your flight, but Ryanair make that a physical impossibility.

They haven't. It was recommended that travellers allow 3 hours at the airport before the time of their flights.
