Has so much clothing she now has storage unit

It sounds as though she is addicted to buying clothes.

I agree that it's startling. Does she recognize that it's unusual, IF it's just clothes?

Is she financially independent? Or is someone else having to finance it? If she’s financially independent then I guess it’s up to her (although I can’t imagine it!)

It depends, where does she live? If it’s a just a room in a shared house maybe it’s not excessive.

I’d say I don’t have that many clothes but would need a storage unit if I only had a room in a HMO.

I have 3x double wardrobe rails, 1x single wardrobe rail, drawers in the bottom of those units and a chest of three drawers. I couldn’t fit those into my bedroom.

I wear all of what I have, and haven’t bought new clothes in 2 years so I don’t consider it an excess or addictive amount. I also don’t have a summer/winter wardrobe changeover, that’s all my clothes.

Could all your clothes including all seasons and winter coats fit into one wardrobe?

It’s definitely excessive. Does she have debt? Do you think she has low self esteem?

Could she not afford a bigger room/a different flat share with more space with her combined tent & storage costs? (& less spending on fast fashion?)

It’s a great waste of money - the storage unit and the clothes. She could probably afford a bigger room/ studio if she stopped buying and gave up the storage unit.

She could use vacuum bags to help put some clothes in.

I don't know - could be excessive. Could be carefully curated vintage wear, cos play or theatrical costumes, bulky sports wear (water sports/winter sports). I think you are only allowed what you can fit in a room in an hmo sounds joyless

A room in a hmo can be very small.

my dc who moved into a share house after uni needed a storage unit mostly for his musical instruments admittedly.

Dunno, if I lived in a room it’s prob got one small wardrobe so yes I’d need another solution too.

Single room? Double? How much wardrobe? When I was in my 20s I had an HMO room that literally had space for a single bed and a 40cm gap alongside it to walk in. My storage space was 2 drawers under the bed and 4 peg hooks to hang things from. I couldn't afford anything more so I had a very limited range of clothing but someone more stylish than me would definitely need more. If she's not expecting you to pay for it, let her be - but caution her to look out for the price shooting up. Storage Barns often have a low introductory offer and then suddenly costs double if you are using them long-term, so it may be cheaper for her to move to a larger place

It is a lot 😂 but it includes pretty much a full time work wardrobe, a casual summer and winter wardrobe, gym clothes, walking clothes, holiday clothes, black tie clothes etc etc. As I said, I’ve not had a single activity where I’ve had to buy new clothes for two years. And some of them are 20+ years old!

I have half a large double wardrobe and 2 small plastic boxes in the loft for all my clothes, coats, shoes, underwear etc. That is all the space I have so that's it . I'd like some more clothing but I'm not paying hundreds of pounds a month to store some coats.

Maybe if she stopped spending so much on clothes she could afford somewhere bigger

id love more clothes but i dont have the space and like hell am I paying for a storage unit for extra! It has to fit in the space you have surely?

I get the space in a HMO is v limited, but how practical is a storage unit?
Do you have to plan your months outfits & shoot over there with last week's clothes?
Or do a seasonal swap out?
Or do a special trip for specific items?
Or do you just live out of the wardrobe you have & dream of the day you are reunited with your other clothing?
