Are adults who give babies tablets showing American cartoons at full volume in medical waiting rooms the lowest form of life? (Serious, not in any way light-hearted)

Is your problem with the fact that the cartoons are American? If so you are a xenophobe.

I don't like american chocolate, does that make me a xenophobe too? Or just someone who has taste buds?

I don't like American cheese.

MotherofPufflings · 30/05/2026 14:51

I don't like the American president

Quiet isn't silent.

You set up a false dichotomy where they were either watching a tablet or talking to strangers.

No I didn't. It is not my fault that your compreshension skills are poor. I presume that you are here to argue regardless of what I post rather than engage in meaningful conversation. I'm not here for that.

I think you know full well that you posted something silly and now you're trying to backtrack. It's okay to say your post was poorly worded and you don't stand by it.

I posted that tablets should be quiet and you took that to mean I believe tablets are ok at a level that a whole room can hear, ie loud (the opposite of quiet). I posted that it is better for a DC to be distracted, as part of a flowing conversation where other posters stated they like to see DC interacting with others that you obviously failed to follow. 'Some' is different to 'the only way ie tablets'. I haven't backtracted, I have emphasised what I wrote originally. This is 100% an issue with your comprehension. I'm not the one being obtuse or stupid here.

Superhansrantowindsor · 30/05/2026 16:26

Plenty of ways to occupy a child without a tablet. Parents have managed for years. If you don’t want to use headphones ditch the tablet.

newmenewwhatever · 30/05/2026 16:32

It’s the lowest form of lazy arse parenting.
anything but parent their child.
scum of the earth

BeNavyLion · 30/05/2026 16:38

@Beyondamountainandoverthesea agreed - I don't agree with having the volume on loud as it's a little annoying, but saying they're the lowest form of life is a bit of an exaggeration 😅

lazyarse123 · 30/05/2026 16:42

I hate it and i also think it 's creating an issue for when they grow. Lack of attention span, lack of socialisation. So many children and young people who cannot cope without a screen. It's a lack of thought for others too.

BeNavyLion · 30/05/2026 17:06

People's anger should really be directed at the government, not the parents (although I get leaving the sound on is annoying). Can we all remember that no one gets parenting 100% right and giving a bit of grace never killed anyone. Tablets for kids is quite normal and a lot of parents do it; they even use tablets in schools and even some nurseries. Tablets are used for homework in some schools. There is even pressure on parents as most kids have phones/tablets and those that don't can get bullied in some cases.

If people have such issues with tablets then take it up with the government not individuals 😅 if tablets/smartphones were banned for kids under certain ages then it would be easier for parents. I don't want my baby to have a smart phone (just one of those old Nokia ones would do so I can contact her), but terrified of the day when she tells me she's the only one in her class and she feels left out, lonely, and is losing friendships because of it. Or worse being teased or bullied. What will I do then? I don't know is the answer, I just hope smart phones get banned for kids before she is that age.

CurdinHenry · 29/05/2026 16:35

But can you think of lower forms of life?

Rapists child abusers murderers drug dealers

BeardySchnauzer · 30/05/2026 17:33

Yes the government should issue every parent with a set of child sized headphones when they leave the maternity ward 🙄

NotDarkGothicMama · 30/05/2026 17:46

The parents who gave their young children kazoos before all getting on our 9-hour flight were about to be worse. I'm afraid I didn't hold back and a calm, kazoo-less journey was enjoyed by all.

BeardySchnauzer · 30/05/2026 17:48

Kazoos!! Do some people have hearing they can switch off to annoying noise? Because surely that would have driven the parents themselves nuts?

I have not read anything more ridiculous on this thread than this. It’s the government’s fault you can’t say no to your child?

really, get a grip.

If you read my post and think it's ridiculous you agreeyou'd rather have your child depressed and bullied than give them a tablet.
I was saying it's a societal issue not an individual one. The government have the power to help parents with these issues.

Bigbrat · 29/05/2026 16:42

I think thats's unfair. I do this with mine albeit I make sure it is as quiet as possible. However the alternative would be running around, moaning, constant chit chat... Sometimes we have to weigh up pros and cons

Noooooo. It is not either or.

This is about toddlers and babies. No toddler or baby is anxious or bullied because they don’t have a tablet

Huh? I said leaving the sound on is annoying - so I agreed with that part? Did you not read my post? A lot of people in this chat are anti tablets in general which is why I mentioned the rest.

BeardySchnauzer · 30/05/2026 19:12

If you give your baby/toddler your phone or tablet to entertain themselves whenever they get fractious then you can’t expect when they are a teenager that all of a sudden they’ll want to read a book and go out on their bike or join a sports club

I mean the government has issued guidance for parents on this.

None of which absolves anyone, child or adult, for inflicting the sound from their crappy tinny speakers on others in shared spaces.

BeNavyLion · 30/05/2026 19:16

@BeardySchnauzer people in this thread have mentioned kids in general not just babies and toddlers
