AIBU to wear denim shorts in my 60s?

What are the thoughts of people who see a woman in their 60s in denim shorts (Not bum showing or ripped), paired with a 100 stars throw over and white linen top.

Am I pushing my luck?? I have pretty good legs!

I can't say I'm terribly bothered, but I just wondered what people thought. Perhaps I should be damned ... !

I want to know why 6% have voted YABU!

I'm 62 and wear shorts all the time, including denim ones (not today as it's too hot).

I voted YABU as the question is unreasonable

One of my favourite photos of my lovely, late nan is of her in my mum's garden on a boiling hot day, wearing shorts, in the mid-1990s. She's around 80 in that picture! She loved summer and shorts always suited her. Honestly, wear whatever the hell you like. You'll look great.

I would just feel jealous tbh because I have terrible legs. Go for it you will look incredible OP xx

I look at people wearing shorts with terrible legs whatever age they are and think …. Good for you!!

Even if they aren’t body confident they’ve got the guts to wear them.
Ive only once in my life seen people sniggering at a lady’s legs and they were unshaven and really hairy. It made me sad for her that two shop assistants were taking the piss.
Most people don’t notice and if they do they don’t care!
I’ve got shorts on now and milk bottle legs with a bruise from the dog ragging a toy into my thigh.
Anyone got a problem with that ….. the problem’s all yours!

TheChosenTwo · 28/05/2026 12:14

How dare you think you can be comfortable in the warm weather??
😂😂 wear what you like and what makes you comfortable. Threads on here have shown over the past couple of days that everyone ‘hates to see’ something, dress for yourself and no one else.

dottiedodah · 28/05/2026 12:21

The usual "sights" of middle age men with a paunch ,often teamed with a football shirt or worse no top at all! I have lost count of the number of guys dressed like this .Im sure they dont care what anyone thinks . On with the shorts Be proud and Rock it!

franksmama · 28/05/2026 12:22

My neighbour is 91 next month and wears denim shorts. She looks bloody wonderful!

sunnydisaster · 28/05/2026 13:02

I’m mid 50s and all
my shorts are denim! One is quite a way above the knee!

Thundertoast · 28/05/2026 13:05

One of my more irrational beliefs is that anyone who looks at older women showing some skin/not dressing like a stereotypical 'older woman' is a profoundly boring person.
Rock those shorts and enjoy the breeze on your knees!!

chirrupybird · 28/05/2026 13:07

Only in the garden for me.

Ah, okay, that makes sense!

My DM wears shorts and she's 75. You're never too
old!

Apprenante · 28/05/2026 19:04

I've just bought another pair of shorts from Mountain Warehouse. Reduced from about £39 to about 12. On me they're knee length and they come in a range of colours -- go on, let's swamp them with over 70s wearing age-inappropriate --comfortable clothes.

Riapia · 28/05/2026 20:02

If you dress with others in mind then all of your self respect is gone.

Familyandmore · 28/05/2026 20:05

I have my denim shorts on now. In my 60s !

ForeverTheOptomist · 29/05/2026 00:24

Thank you all for responding! It is 94% in that we continue to wear shorts. I looked at my legs today they are only great in my imagination! But not bad, and slightly saggy ... But I'm still out there. Thank you all for your support!!

Just reading Liz Earl's book on healthy ageing, which stresses how important sunlight on arms and legs is for healthy ageing. Much more important than how you look, not that anyone looks bad in shorts anyway.

Is that for Vit D generation?

Now imagine a man had written ‘AIBU to wear shorts in my 60s?’

I mean… he wouldn’t. He would wear them without a second thought.

Agreed.

FastFood · 29/05/2026 08:49

My dear, my mum is 73, and she wears linen shorts, she lives in the south of France, when it's hot, it's HOT.
She's got great legs but even if she didn't, so what?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 29/05/2026 09:09

Amira83 · 27/05/2026 22:14
