To be surprised that London buses dont have AirCon throughout?!

With the amount being spent on transport, I am surprised this basic addition wasn't a huge priority 😒

I think that the Elizabeth line might have AC, as you'd expect of new vehicles

The tickets will be more expensive if all buses are going to be fitted with a/c. Cost of living is high enough...

Tfl are fine and can afford aircon

Their drivers are parking buses and refusing to move

Would it be efficient, when the doors are continually opening and closing?

Erin1975 · 27/05/2026 18:18

Aircon would be very inefficient on a bus. They are poorly insulated and open their doors every few minutes to let people on and off.

igelkott2026 · 27/05/2026 18:19

They have windows and you get a nice through draught when the bus is moving.

NotTheOrdinary · 27/05/2026 18:23

Our bus windows are tiny. You hardly get any draft. I'm not in London though. I have to fan myself with my fan like a Victorian lady.

toomuchfaff · 27/05/2026 18:27

All buses have air-conditioning, they're called windows. People open them, the bus moves - the air flows.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/05/2026 18:30

My local buses have air con. It’s ineffective as people still open the windows.

KilkennyCats · 27/05/2026 18:30

Air conditioning doesn’t work when you open the doors every three minutes, op.

DisrobeDatrobe · 27/05/2026 18:33

London has far and away the best transport facilities in the UK. If I lived somewhere with buses/trains along every 5 minutes I'd think I was in heaven, however stuffy they were inside.

DwarfPalmetto · 27/05/2026 18:34

Some buses do have aircon. One of my local routes got new buses last year that have it. Yesterday I was tempted to stay on past my stop Grin

Was in Singapore last week and they had AC on their busses 🤷‍♀️ Same in Italy and Greece

The problem in London at least is that there is AC but it’s not strong enough and people open the windows defeating the entire point.

I wondered this
probably not!

myavocadoisgrowing · 27/05/2026 18:42

Our local buses are electric. No a/c on (although they have it) or heating in the winter because it drains the battery.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/05/2026 18:56

The new SUPER LOOPS do. In summer that’s the only bus I get. And then straight onto the Lizzy or the Jubilee to get into town.

The Superloops go further between stops though, don’t they, so the doors won’t open so often.

Kpo58 · 27/05/2026 19:18

Some of the buses in London get so crowded I'm not sure that you could get sufficient airflow around the passengers for the Aircon to be able to do anything useful.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 27/05/2026 19:21

The route masters are awful. It’s like a sauna upstairs in the heat.

I saw lots of people doing this in London too.

So many people open the windows on buses when it's hot. There's no point.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 27/05/2026 19:23

Shops have aircon despite the opening and closing of doors, and theyre fine

As do some tubes

I thought they had all been retired. OP as others have said AC is no good if people open windows.

A simple window sticker asking for them to remain closed in the heat will solve that problem

With the driver reminding everyone periodically

Shops have doors that open and close all day, and you can feel the ac the second you step in

You have access to TFL's financial records and evidence that they can afford this ?
