British behaviour in holiday hotel

We are staying at a good all inclusive resort (yes, I know all inclusive is not high end, but this is about as good a one as you can get). I am just shocked and ashamed at fellow british people at breakfast time. Letting their kids make a huge mess by allowing them to get their own food. Huge amounts of wasted food. Multiple untouched plates left on tables. Total disregard for others barging round, blocking walkways etc. When did this become ok?? AIBU with expectations? Bear in mind this is not a cheap rubbish tui-blue type place. I dread to think what they are like!

Isn’t the behaviour the issue not the nationality? Nobody can say it’s mainly British people that act this way unless you’ve been to all the hotels in the world and witnessed everyone on holiday!! It’s just a perception based on your experience.. can’t possibly be true of an entire nation.

SUPerSaver721 · 26/05/2026 16:33

Ive been on numerous all inclusive holidays with my children and ive never saw behaviour that your saying. Maybe your not staying in good 5* hotels.

Ditto with living next door to other people then complaining that aren't SILENTLY using their own garden.

There's an acceptable level of noise by law.

I was driven mad by my neighbour who converted his shed and sang karaoke in the shed every night

I've seen it on all inclusive.

It’s almost like someone (yet again) has taken a ridiculous British stereotype to try and undermine and criticise British people,

The OP is British herself?

notnorman · 26/05/2026 17:24

On a recent cruise- was shocked at how South Americans and the Chinese were re smoking/pushing in/lack of queueing/taking piles of the, for eg nice tropical fruit and leaving none for anyone else.

Please don’t call TUI blue type places cheap and rubbish. They are still over £3k for a holiday and is the best that people can afford - don’t shit on others!

I was going to say this. For us it was closer to 5k when I looked so definitely not cheap and from what friends said they had a lovely time!!

bit rude OP

Or so she says

Twooclockrock · 26/05/2026 17:32

Thats really rude about tui blue holidays.
Manners and respect are for everyone, from the people letting their kids run about at dinner to you speaking badly about holiday choices of others. you don't have to be such an twat about other peoples holidays to make your point

Scarlettjune · 26/05/2026 17:33

Goldenbear · 26/05/2026 17:31

Of course she is. Ffs. Everyone complains about their own people

OxRug · 26/05/2026 17:39

Go on. Tell us which hotel you’re in OP

Pollyanna87 · 26/05/2026 17:46

Surely we all know there are well-behaved people and badly-behaved people in all nationalities? Of course, some nationalities often excel at certain things (I think we are genuinely good at queueing, for example), but some people love to brag of how well-travelled they are only to criticise the Brits as boorish. Have those people not encountered some bad behaviour from the locals in the many countries they’ve visited?

It is you who is wrong. Have you ever been skiing, it is most certainly those listed above causing all the obnoxious behaviour. In fact, IME there aren't many Brits that ski compared to other European countries so I know that bad tourist behaviour is not just a Brit thing.

Yeah I get it you're British, likely English - one of the most common traits is that you are oblivious to how you are received / perceived elsewhere. Good for you.

Scarlettjune · 26/05/2026 18:28

In my opinion the worst tourists are usually British or American. Both can be Loud, brash and annoying

I have Danish family, I literally posted how going on holiday to Spain with them in a five star hotel we didn't stand out at all. The hotel was full of French and Spanish and they struggled the most with their children at dinner time with sorting at the table and screaming. Equally it wasn't really a hotel with any Brits so I know that difficult children are not unique to our nation. Are you Russian?

But you didn't answer the question, have you been skiing? As if you have you would know full well that you're are taking bollock

They are not culturally worlds apart when they are on holiday. The loudest tourists that I have met are always British or American

Of course they are culturally worlds apart whatever context! Hilarious, you obviously don't have a clue about many other cultures if you think that, where are you from?

When I was in Rome it was groups of Irish. God they were loud, obnoxious and the foul language used, there was no need for it. Effing and jeffing every sentence.

There was a lot more smoking as well, mainly continentals. You notice it a lot because we're not used to used to it in our faces anymore. And lets not start on the driving. There's no politeness.

This. You sound like an entitled snob OP. Sorry other people are getting on your nerves when you’ve spent so much money, but don’t assume money buys manners.

Drknittingfrog · 26/05/2026 19:26

My 2 have been allowed to help themselves since they were quite small BUT until I was confident they could do it themselves I (or a relative) would go with them to help reach/pour etc. But they are so proud to manage their own plate 😊. Sure there's been the too many donuts and the 3 plates of desserts at some point but generally speaking they choose what we eat at home: lots of salads and veg, some protein and some carbs and are adventurous in trying new things. Starting young mean they know they can go back and don't need to pile it up... But I never let them waste food out touch things they are not planning on eating. The issue is not with the children but with the parents who don't ..well..parent 🤷🏼‍♀️.
