Nicola Sturgeon didn't know her husband stole £400,000

Imdunfer · 25/05/2026 21:03

Really? She lived with this guy and didn't know? She had a camper van parked on the drive and didn't know he stole the money to buy it?

I don't buy it.

These people are 'forensic' and 'all over the detail' until it suits them not to be. Like Starmer with Mandelson's clearance. They're either incompetent or dishonest.

There is no way that NS would not be making political ground out of this if it was one of her political opponents. She would be sure to take every opportunity to highlight the stupidity, naivety or dishonesty of her opponent.

I suspect Murrell was persuaded to plead “guilty” to avoid more about what NS knew or didn’t know being revealed.

At least with the Mandelson clearance there was a tactical motive (appoint somebody on Trump's wave length) however ill judged it turned out to be.

In contrast, from what they say, the SNP just didn't bother to check what had happened to their only motor vehicle, the £125K camper van that had apparently gone missing. They just kept signing the accounts each year.

Isn't there supposed to be a ferry in dry dock? Has anyone checked that it is there?

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 30/05/2026 12:57

The most surprising thing about all of this is that Nicola Sturgeon is playing this SO badly. Think what you like about her and her politics (and I am not a fan) but she usually has her finger on the pulse and has built her career on being a competent politician. Lots of people (again not me) thought she did a great job in Covid and was a steady pair of hands. So it's a real surprise that she has got the tone of her response to this so badly wrong.

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/05/2026 13:06

I suspect he was persuaded to admit his guilt because he has more skeletons (big pants) in his closet than she does.

Brilliant 🤣

In all seriousness though, NS is just such a huge, huge disappointment. As is the SNP generally. I've no doubt that there has been a cover up involving a fair few SNP high ups. It seems totally unfathomable that as his boss (never mind his wife) that NS wouldn't be aware of the issues with the finances and what was happening. What a disgrace and sadly it seems that PM will be the fall guy for a lot of people, not just his former wife and boss.

I'm embarrassed to say I was taken in and some of my membership money probably went towards those bloody salt and pepper shakers.

Yes, massive train wreck, and all their top team want to do is get back to shouting about Independence like some sort of cult, it is the only thing they care about.

They had nightclubs open while still asking people to report symptoms to the NHS, sounds like they were just as lost as everyone else and going for the "herd immunity" gamble by letting young people mingle? She can stand up and talk crap for two hours, everyone at her political level needs to be able to do that, but there is very little substance there, it seems to have all been lies and deception.

Not really, she fumbled the gender stuff as well, that basically ended her political career.

As someone living in England, I had a lot of time for Sturgeon, particularly during Covid compared to the arseholery of Johnson. The Isla Bryson case really made me, and others, question her ability. Now, I just find it very hard to believe that she knew nothing at all - at best, she had suspicions but put her fingers in her ears and dug her heels in.

There is something distasteful about how pious she is about other people; that never ends well.

She is, incidentally, still giving her verdict about people like we should care. There is something amazing about her views about British Prime Ministers. All she’s done is ensure that really, no First Minister in Scotland will be taken seriously again.

Aye, all the ones who can fit in the luxury motor home that wears the cloak of invisibility.

Looks like Sturgeon has pulled out of an Edinburgh book event because her name is not now on the promotion materials. Could she be keeping a low profile for once. ? She was going to interview author Kirsty Lockwood whose novel is entitled We Know What You Did. !!!!

Do you believe NS was sitting at home with her mask on, knitting, in her Lego house all the way through Covid?

We used to hear the whole time how lucky we were and other UK areas wished they had NS in charge during COVID.
She was a very eloquent orator who portrayed an imagine of calmly leading us successfully through Covid.

The reality was Scotland faired no better than the rest of the UK, and in fact probably worse if you account for the demographics . Our lack of population density beyond Edinburgh and Glasgow SHOULD have stood us in much better stead but it didn’t.
She kept schools closed for longer and NHS on emergencies only footing for longer.

It was just the contrast in the image BJ portrayed compared to NS but the underlying results for the country were no different and people in Scotland weren’t fooled

All about perception - as you say, she came across as calm and measured while Bozo thumped tables and ate cake.

It was a new low when she played the ‘poor woman’ card. ‘I am not the first woman to be betrayed’ or some such drivel. Come on Nicola, you were First Minister, meeting the great and the good and making life changing decisions. But now you’re poor, deceived, weak ‘woman folk’. That demeans you and all of us women who see ourselves as equal to men and equally able to manage our finances, challenge our partners and work at a senior level. You’re just spinning a narrative that you should be excused because those nasty men did it to you. Bah.

Well I thought it was slightly funny…

Key word here is virtually, lowly Terence of Buckinghamshire.

Those hairs will be voluminous yet hold their shape in the hot weather, thanks to the Dyson.

Those dashing good looks take maintenance, people. Can't blame a man for that.

And it is obvious he'd need a spare for travel.

ByGraptharsHammer · 30/05/2026 16:28

I do not see Nicola as an orator. She is good at telling you off! A natural finger wagger during COVID. No fan of Johnson but he has a way with words.

Anyway she has fallen off her high horse; something she clearly doesn’t like

I can't believe she's playing the 'misogyny' card - complaining that there have been more bad headlines about her than the criminal husband

She was the First Minister of Scotland and leader of her party, she surely has to expect scrutiny as to how she didn't know anything about the party finances over the many years; in addition she was married to and living with the man who embezzled £400,000

Proclaiming your innocence is one thing, but being critical of the public and press scrutiny is very arrogant in this attempt to deflect any blame
