Nicola Sturgeon didn't know her husband stole £400,000

Imdunfer · 25/05/2026 21:03

Really? She lived with this guy and didn't know? She had a camper van parked on the drive and didn't know he stole the money to buy it?

I don't buy it.

Considerable peril? Does she now think she's Penelope Pitstop?

Hay-wye on wi ye, Nicola. Shameless.

She is absolutely having her arse handed to her on a plate on the Hay-on-Wye socials.

If I was the leader of one of the other parties, and was confident in my party set up, I’d be announcing that we were having a finance review in the light of Murrell’s guilty plea. To double check and make sure that what happened to SNP supporters hard earned cash simply couldn’t happen in my party because of the checks and balances in place.

Then watch Swinney try and explain why he wasn’t prepared to do the same, in particular highlighting the fact that they even currently have the same treasurer as managed to be conned by Murrell…

This is absolute genius. I have to say I've genuinely reflected on practice in my own workplace, I think something like this does naturally make you think. It's better to learn from others' mistakes than your own where you can. And it would be hilarious to watch the SNP argue they're not going to investigate or bother to think about it at all while other parties use it as a learning opportunity.

I hope the Scottish opposition parties join together to keep the pressure on the SNP, Sturgeon, Swinney et al

There absolutely should be an independent inquiry into how the SNP corrupted the political system and the implications for the once independent Scottish judiciary and Police Scotland.

The timing of Murrell’s plea post Scottish election is outrageous.

On Debate Night on Wednesday evening, an SNP voter told Alyn Smith the particularly smarmy MP for Stirling, that she wouldn’t have voted for him had she known about the Murrell plea pre election.
Did he care? Not a jot.
He trotted out the stock phrases they’ve all been told in their media training.

Alyn Smith has taken voters for absolute mugs as has the entire SNP machine.
Sturgeon, Murrell, Swinney, Yousaf have taken the Scottish population for fools and sadly for reasons best known to themselves, folk have still voted for them

For the first time in my life, I feel embarrassed about Scotland.
The whole country is a laughing stock.

Rhetoric built on nothing.
So ‘progressive’ but a failing education system, a govt obsessed with trans issues, a complete lack of interest in how to build the economy, create wealth (which is now a dirty word apparently), secrecy and dishonesty at all levels.

All the while, claiming a moral high ground, Scots are better, friendlier, more open, care more and the dreaded word ‘progressive’.

I’m struggling to see how any of this is true.

Oh, and before we get all misty eyed about how amazing Scottish football fans are in the run up to the World Cup, perhaps someone in the Scottish Govt could grow a pair and finally sort out the Old Firm matches and the hideous violence in Glasgow.

All the while, Sturgeon is out there promoting her wretched book.
It’s mind boggling.

I'm Scottish and I agree with every single word of what you've said here. It's a bitter pill to swallow, particularly as I used to be an SNP member and voter. They've wrecked our country. Completely and totally. Corrupt bunch of chancers.

Ah, I’m sorry for you. I’ve joined in the joshing here but I don’t live in Scotland. My family and I visit at least twice a year. You have a beautiful country. And we come from a beautiful part of England. I think it’s always hard to realise that the vast majority of politicians have clay feet. I love though that we can use these threads to express our small people horror at the arrogance, avarice and aggrandisement of our politicians. I sincerely hope that we can change things for the future. The police are hamstrung with NS but she is losing her reputation in the court of human appeal. At the end of the day, your reputation is everything. Hers is nothing now. And like everyone who has ever ripped off the little people, I am glad of that. I hope she is shunned now.

IT WIS WACKY RACES RIGHT ENOUGH

INeedAPensieve · 29/05/2026 22:39

Ach thanks @ThePieceHall , the thing is I love my country in terms of the scenery, all the places to visit, where I live, my friends, family, etc but god our politicians really, really depress me. Everyone I've spoken to feels the same, nobody likes to be made a fool of and I think it's hard that this is what NS, her husband and wider SNP high ups have done. And not just about this, but about everything they touch; it's become clear that they just hold Scottish people in utter contempt. I wish this had come out before the elections and that in itself makes me suspicious; it's very convenient indeed that he pleads guilty and it all comes out less than a month after a major election. Hmmm.

Potatocakeandbeans · 29/05/2026 15:10

I know! I don’t know what @Jane379 was thinking.

I'm so sorry! I was tired - I didn't mean to say it was in the UK.

Ireland is part of the British Isles and does share a somewhat more similar situation than Belgium, Luxembourg etc though.. arguably the fact Varadkar could lead as an openly gay man after a much more conservative recent past than Scotland suggests Sturgeon could have made it in the 2010s and been openly gay.

Yes, surely these revelations will help to eventually end the SNP's grip on power.

Didn't they just - a good 12 minutes on the story.

Ah I missed it earlier, might watch it now

OvernightBloats · 30/05/2026 07:16

Reading between the lines, it is clear she knew the finances were in trouble for a long time.

'Ms Sturgeon told a meeting of the party's ruling National Executive Committee in March 2021, which she chaired as leader, that the party’s finances had “never been stronger” and urged members to be “very careful” about suggesting there were “any problems” with them.'

Why would she urge members to be careful? Was she subtly telling them to not question the finances? It almost sounds like a threat.

If she was confident with the finances, there wouldn't have been any need to warn the members in any way.

Completely agree. I’m embarrassed that people vote for the SNP. Questionable mentality, to put it mildly.

ByGraptharsHammer · 30/05/2026 10:40

There is something distasteful about how pious she is about other people; that never ends well.

She is, incidentally, still giving her verdict about people like we should care. There is something amazing about her views about British Prime Ministers. All she’s done is ensure that really, no First Minister in Scotland will be taken seriously again.

Amira91 · 30/05/2026 11:06

There's no way she didn't know.
