Really depressed I didn’t just go on Ozempic - only maintained for a year

I don’t know I really need a rant.

I feel really angry and upset at myself. To the point i just want to scream/cry.

Last year i lost 55 pounds without glp 1s. I totally cut out carbs (well I’d eat sweet potatoes if absolutely necessary). And just made an effort not to use food as a crutch. It worked fairly well as the weight came off.

I decided I needed more moderation. The no carb thing was just making me have cravings. So I started eating jackets, pasta salads etc. Not ideal as I have pcos but I try to be sensible. Ie having cooled down pasta to make it resistant or whatever. Not smothering pasta in cheese etc.

Its meant my weight loss has completely stalled. I’m happy that I’ve not gained all the weight back. But still. I’ve been eating in moderation for a year and not lost weight! I can’t deny this anger is compounded by the fact I saw my friend for lunch today. She’s lost 5 stone in 5 months using Mounjaro.

I just want to weep. I wish I just started on Ozempic or similar. I’m at my goal weight but to be honest I’d love another stone off. I don’t know why I didn’t go
on a glp 1. I just knew in my heart that my weight was not “inexplicable”. I was eating far too much out of boredom.

Just another sunny day wasted hating myself even though I’ve tried 😢

I’ve been going to the gym too. How pathetic to be this mindful and to not have lost any weight.

But again this makes no logical sense. Both the op and her friend need to maintain it for life, there is no difference here, and no reason someone who took wli should be less successful than those who didn’t. It’s 80 percent who fail through tradional methods. Obesity has been a problem long before the drugs were approved. We have the data , obesity and losing weight without injections is something we know a huge amount about,as for decades that’s all there was

you’re posting like you think if someone loses weight without medication it means they keep it off or have a better chance of doing so. This is factually incorrect.

not only is it incorrect but real life data coming out of the USA, is showing people keeping it off longer after stopping that traditional methods, contrary to what was seen in trials. Likely as those people didn’t suffer deprivation throughout the weight loss phase.

People who have never struggled with obesity hate the drugs because it means they can't maintain their moral superiority over fat people. That it proves that its not their own special superiority and sheer will power which means they aren't obese. Shame.

I'd say it's great you lost it without gpl1, best without unnecessary drugs

HobGobblynne · Yesterday 18:04

Because that was the whole point of my post.

The OP had made sustainable lifestyle changes without the need for continuous WLIs to maintain a healthy weight. What she has done is brilliant.

Her friend will have to stay on WLI for life or risk putting the weight back on.

Obesity being a disease is massively disagreed upon. A third of Americans cannot possibly have a disease. Even the WHO who define it as a "disease" go on to say about it mostly being caused by diet and lifestyle with some (small minority) genetic causes. Basically countries who have high amounts of processed foods.

People like having something to blame to make it not their fault.

Cutting out an entire food group is not a sustainable (or healthy) lifestyle change - as evidenced by the fact the OP herself says she couldn’t sustain giving up carbs.

BeddysMum · Yesterday 18:06

You are doing really well!!

When you diet without carbs (essentially keto) it will stop or slow down progress when you reintroduce them. You're actually doing great so don't be so hard on yourself.

Also glp1 only works for as long as you take it, then people who stop put the weight back on and complain of extreme hunger! There are very serious health risks to using it too. Leave it to those who medically need it. It's not the magic bullet we would like it to be.

Maybe just find a new diet plan including carbs and aim to slowly and sustainably lose that last stone. I'm sure you already look fantastic, so give yourself some credit and be proud of your weight loss so far!

Trishyb10 · Yesterday 18:13

Just eat soup, smoothies, scrambled eggs, the basics.. cant see what the problem is..

Twinmum0822 · Yesterday 18:17

It could be worse, you could have lost 42 pounds then piled it all back on again in 8 months like I’ve done! That’s depressing, trust me!

Literally none of that is true. What are your qualifications for stating such garbage with such certainty?

Except for many many people they are necessary

Why does it matter if she’s still on or not, it is advisable for many to stay on. Obesity is a relapse disease. We know this. It doesn’t mean she hasn’t worked hard and made huge lifestyle changes.

Exactly. The OP is also still at a high risk of relapse. It just needs a stressor in life and boom.

This is complete BS. Do you know how many people have lost a ton of weight without a glp1, maintained for a year or two and then their grandma died or something else happened and they gained it back?

PuppyKeep · Yesterday 18:43

The way you are all talking about WLI you’d think they only cost 50p!

PuppyKeep · Yesterday 18:47

ZaraCC · 24/05/2026 15:46

Can you afford to pay for them privately?

That’s the only option regardless of your BMI unless you’re on deaths door

PuppyKeep · Yesterday 18:49

TheChosenTwo · 24/05/2026 16:04

I’ve lost 7st on WLI going from 16st to 9st. I’m at the lower end of my bmi range and still wouldn’t wear anything skimpy. Currently sitting in my own garden in shorts and tshirt but feeling a lot more comfortable than I used to at 16st.
Good to see you’re going to commit to strength training op, it’s been really beneficial to me as I’ve lost weight and miraculously I haven’t been left with loose skin (well nothing more than a wrinkly belly post 3 children). I also swim 1km 2-3 times a week and do reformer Pilates twice a week. Find something you love and shift your focus a little.

How are you finding maintaining the lower weight?

Behaveyourself88 · Yesterday 18:49

Maybe consider going to either slimming world or weight watchers where they can help you by teaching you how to maintain your weight, also you can still lose more weight if you want too.

How are you finding maintaining the lower weight?

I can jump in here, six and a half stone lost. BMI 20 down from 32. Size 8, maintaning for 18 months, very stable weight. I continue to take a low dose. To get all tne health benefits and also ensures I never struggle. It’s fab, honestly

Thank you. How much £ is the maintenance dose?

I’m buying a 5mg pen so £160 but making it last 2 months.

twoboystwodogs · Yesterday 19:17

I would strongly suggest focusing on weights rather than hours of cardio. Muscle will help with weight loss/maintenance. Too much cardio can stress the body and inhibit weight loss. And you need to increase the weights steadily and exercise all muscles. Does your gym offer programming sessions where they set you a progressive routine and review say every 12 weeks? I would suggest doing that so you know what you are doing is right. Also focus on reps and good form. You can do this, you've plateaued in your weight loss but if you get toned you'll start to feel much better x

Wickedlittledancer · Yesterday 19:20

PuppyKeep · Yesterday 18:59

Thank you. How much £ is the maintenance dose?

It depends on what dose you chose, it’s just the normal pens. I am in 5mg as it’s the lowest therapeutic dose, and I want the health benefits. So about 175 a month,

Liznug · Yesterday 19:21

There is something very very odd about this thread.

Lost a load of weight. Kept it off for a year. And now spiralling and depressed that in a healthy bmi but still not quite at desired weight. And even told us current weight and the small amount until desired weight. Was it weird stealth boast? Was it fishing for recommendations where she might be able to get black market WLI?

So I am not sure about this. I have lost weight “with willpower” so many times but as soon as I get stressed I gain it back. You can make sustainable changes on a WLI as well. For me the WLI just provide a safety net.

That's brilliant, we'll done. You don't need the hats, you did it without them. Don't hate yourself, you did it.

My goal weight puts me in the healthy range. I still have wobbly bits that are getting me down.

If you have a healthy BMI then at this stage you need help adjusting to your new reality.

ThatRareHazelTiger · Yesterday 19:29

Well done! Next my fitness pal or similar to track calories, lots of protein and strength training

Happyever1 · Yesterday 19:35

I understand why you feel down. I have struggled with weight my whole life and now am at / below my original goal weight - and let me tell you, I feel just as miserable about my body now as I ever did! Perhaps even more so. It’s highly unlikely you loosing another stone will suddenly make you feel body confident. You’ve done so so well, maybe work on your body image rather than trying to loose more weight, as you’ll often find once you get to that magic number, nothing really changes! It’s more about what’s going on in your head
