Poor parents of Grace and Barnaby Webber. not only were their children murdered they then found this out about people looking up the records who shouldn't have.

Hope all those people are totally embarrassed. Glad they got caught out.

I work in a different Trust, and in ours it is vigorously drilled into you that all accessing of records is traceable and the consequences for doing so without need very serious.

The fact that so many people at the Trust did this is of significant concern in terms of the culture within the Trust.

I often handle very sensitive cases such as these in my role, and the idea anyone would want to access this sort of information without a clinical reason makes me feel a bit sick, to be honest.

I worked for a hospital Trust and had to go on a conference related to my field. I brought up the issue of staff looking at records for prurient reasons, and everyone scoffed it wouldn’t happen. Totally not surprised by this, especially for clerical/ non professional staff. It’s not like a doctor who’ll lose everything, they’ll just move on.

This included Doctors.

I cannot fathom what they were hoping to learn from accessing the records.

It’s hideous and everyone who looked is exceptionally stupid, because they have all been trained multiple times to know that an audit trail of access is kept. Anyone with half a brain would have known that extra checks would be made on records in such a sensitive case.

It was nothing but their own ghoulish curiosity. Or perhaps hoping to sell something to the media. Or to show off in front of other equally ghoulish types. What is wrong with people.

Those people are stupid and deserve their sackings. Everyone who is employed by the NHS has this drilled into them from day 1. Patient confidentiality is taken very seriously. If you access an electronic record it is recorded. It is tracable and it is audited on a regular basis.

Awful behaviour.

They did this at Aintree Hospital too, 50 staff members that shouldnt have been looking at the records of the Southport stabbing victims. Nobody has been sacked there just warnings given. Appalling.

In Fife, social workers who accessed the records of a murdered toddler were sacked. The head of Children's Services later resigned, though he said that it wasn't related to this matter.

I worked for the NHS many years ago, in the early days of digital records, and even then this was made clear that unauthorised access was traceable and would be punished. Just ghoulish curiosity. Glad they've been sacked, serves them right.

So no less than 25 NHS staff members inappropriately accessed those records at that one Nottingham trust alone. Seems to me hugely indicative of the culture there. It must be common practice for them to do this, they just got caught out this time as the victims pushed.

No. They want to gossip about it whether that’s to people they know or to the press (and get paid).

I used to work for an organisation who provided services for a lot of high profile individuals e.g. footballers, celebrities etc.

We were explicitly told on a regular basis not to access those records unless dealing with that person. Someone did and was fired the same day.
This wasn't recently and I'm surprised high profile records aren't now locked down in some way.

I never realised until the entry that do tors can't look.you up unless they need too for a reason.
The doctor isn't just allowed to think I wonder what's happened to Mrs Girlfriend 44 I haven't seen her for a while . I will look.her up and see if she still comes to the practice. You can't

They deserved to be sacked for their stupidity alone! As others have said, I work for the NHS and it is very much drilled into you constantly, from day 1 not to access patient records without a legitimate need. I would not want a medical professional dealing with me with this level of stupidity and lack of care. well deserved sackings. Unbelievable.
