How did Tyson Fury’s daughter get married at 16?

I thought they changed the law and you had to be 18 in the UK?

Well Tyson doesnt seem the type to let his daughter slide into poverty. He bought a massive house for them all to live in, he paid for her wedding. Venezuela has just written an instagram post saying that her dad has done so much for her and she couldnt have asked for a better dad.

And that’s all very well while she is doing what he wants. He may well react quite differently if she decided to walk her own path.

Money comes with strings

likelysuspect · 17/05/2026 17:31

What happens in Traveller or Romany families if a child is SEN or has ND or has LD? Do they still get married and if so who to? Someone who understands their needs or has similar needs?

And someone said above about homosexuality not being tolerated, is that right?

A male relative being very wealthy definitely is not the same as having access to your own money.

Some of the views on this thread are shocking.
Child marriage is fine so long as the child agrees
Girls don't need a secondary education or qualifications
The only option being available to them is cleaning and childrearing and that's fine because as a child they 'chose' it
No issues with women being totally reliant on their fathers and husbands to give them money.

Some of the posters on this thread would have been backwards 100 years ago.

No one NEEDS a secondary education. The system tells us that we must have one. I and many other people say that we learned far more outside school than in it

Samysungy · 17/05/2026 17:05

It absolutely should rise to 18. It should not be legal for an adult to have sex with a child of 16 or 17 as it currently is in the UK.

That's not what I meant (at least in part because that would instantly criminalise a lot of teenagers on their 18th birthday if their boy/girl friend is younger and a law came in to that effect, and I cannot imagine a significant number of parents - of sons especially - being particularly enthusiastic about their sons becoming criminals before they've finished their A Levels) - illegal for all under 18s, including where they are the same age and are currently fully consenting.

Are you a traveller? If not then do not comment on other cultural traditions.

It’s an open forum, people can comment what they want. Who are you to say this poster can’t comment? Are you the MN police now?

Not only do you need an education, but it is every child's right to have an education.
No parent should willingly deprive their child of that.

It's a good thing that men have never, ever used money and access to money to control women.

Oh the good old university of life. There are some appalling posts on this thread "cultural traditions" - some "cultural traditions" have no place in modern life.

I disagree. I think that schools were mainly established to get humans to conform and submit to authority from a young age.

They are rigid prison like structures that do not suit many children.

InstantlyBella · 17/05/2026 17:23

Me too. From what the posters inside the community they seem like an amazing tightnight group of people. How do they feel about dating women from the settled community? Think I might try and bag myself a traveller man to be honest, at least they seem to have some ounce of masculinity in them unlike British men!

Go for it! Perhaps one of the posters on here could get you set up.

It is good that he is actually being a dad to her and helping her, which is more than a lot of men do.

ForPlumReader · 17/05/2026 17:38

southcoastsammy · 17/05/2026 17:18

I had no idea either - I thought that as a modern country presumably concerned about the welfare of its children, child marriage should have been made illegal everywhere

You'll be glad to hear it is under review, we can only hope that the English education system is too. You can also get married at 16 in Northern Ireland, albeit with parental consent. That's 2 out of the 4 nations of the UK.

Im guessing you havent watched their netflix show?

In it, her mother talks to Venezuela about what she will do with her life. Venezuela says that she doesnt want to get a job. Her mother says "what will you do then, live off your dad?".

Venezuela says " yes".

No, I don't have Netflix. You have yourself said it's probably scripted, and her saying she plans to.live off Dad doesn't mean he has unconditionally given her enough to set her up for life. In fact, it implies the opposite. That she is reliant on him continuing to give her money in the future. She might think that's guaranteed. It isn't. Apart from anything else, he might lose it. It does happen.

School certainly isn't the only way to educate children but you need to prepare children to live independently.

How is a young girl with a very limited education, no qualifications, and totally financially reliant on her father going to be able to do anything or make any choices in life?
Women have fought for generations so their daughters aren't in that position any more.

SomethingFun · 17/05/2026 17:40

This is why everything is written for someone with the literacy levels of a ten year old because so many people regardless of ‘culture’ think being educated beyond the bare minimum is a waste of time. Show me one primary school leaver you’d let operate on you, unbelievable.

I earn my own money, how much money my dad has or my husband has no bearing on whether I can or should be able to support myself and every single girl and woman should have the opportunity to be able to earn her own money so she can choose to be a wife if she likes, not that it’s that or destitution. Venezuela may get millions from her parents and never need to work but I’d hazard an educated guess that most 16 year old girls walking up the aisle are not independently wealthy and are gambling with an awful lot of future years on a young man they barely know staying nice.

I didnt say the whole thing was scripted. I said someone wrote online that the argument between them was scripted, Paris and Tyson, to create drama as they had all been getting on well!

Venezuela was given the opportunity to get a job.

Her mother encouraged her to get a job and earn her own money. She didnt want to. Venezuela wanted to get married and not work.

That was from the netflix show. Paris fury, her mothrr, has also said the same thing in interviews

ThejoyofNC · 17/05/2026 17:26

Oh no, definitely not. In fact, I'd say the opposite was true. Also if the couple did want any intervention such as IVF and they couldn't afford it, their friends and family would insist on helping with the cost.

Good to hear, thank you.

Oh come on. Try being an astrophysicist or in terms of something we all need, a doctor/surgeon without a proper, structured education. Your life expectancy is going to plummet if everyone takes such a view, but perhaps you're hoping others will do the hard yards and be available when you need them.

No one from my year in school (state school).has become a Doctor, Surgeon or Astrophysicist

It is not education that will get you into those jobs. It is education and MONEY that wil get you into those jobs.

I know a few Doctors from hobbies that I go to. Every single one of them grew up in wealthy families.

You said and I quote

If you want to be operated on by people who left school at 11, I wish you luck. I'll take my chances with people who got medical qualifications.

What nonsense. I am surrounded by dirt poor immigrants who worked hard and became all these things.

Even if you want to be a chef or a landscape gardener or a hairdresser you need an education eg GCSEs and college.
