Angela Rayner's tax affairs

Ihateboris · 14/05/2026 08:10

I was a few days late submitting my Tax Return due to being in hospital last year and as result I was charged £100 late filing penalty.

AIBU to think that Angela Rayner should have to pay interest and penalties for underpayment of Stamp Duty. This makes me so fucking angry.

If you need specialist tax advice it’s highly unlikely you wouldn’t be able to afford to pay for it. We’re not talking about mistake in her tax code here.

Not sure what specific point you're making here, but AR didn't pay for the specialist tax advice. The Labour Party did.

...Well not actually a Socialist..... Do you write for the Telegraph?

Evidence? Not The Telegraph, obviously.

Really? i understood the initial firm she contacted, had a tax division and she paid for that herself.

She also paid for further specialist advice too.

Seems we've more posters that write for the Telegraph.

The Times. Does that work for you?

I hate to be the one to ask, but are you Angela Rayner?

It will have been a voluntary payment.
It could go to a tribunal to thrash out the detail but would cost HMRC a pile of money and become an extended painful process for all that could well have found in AR's favour in the end.

If you can’t provide evidence - which you clearly can’t - why should I believe you?

You could try googling it and a few links would appear. If you can't be bothered and prefer to believe your own conspiracy theories, please, be my guest.

I’m not your secretary. If you want me to believe your “facts”, back them up.

While it would be so much quicker for me to post the Times article and end this pathetic nonsense, I think I just won't bother. Because you probably will say they got it wrong or they have a vendetta against Angela Rayner.

Araminta1003 · 19/05/2026 10:07

Surely newspapers fact check or they can be sued for libel?

Araminta1003 · 19/05/2026 10:22

She can get her KC to write another letter… don’t think she needs MNetters

“I’m a self described socialist too.”

@blossomtoes - I thought you once said you live in a Tory safe seat?

Have never met a socialist who lives somewhere they cannot exercise their vote in real life properly?

I live in John Major’s old seat. Despite it being Tory central, they haven’t made it compulsory to be one yet!

Araminta1003 · 19/05/2026 11:44

Does it not bother you that your vote is wasted somewhat in Tory Central?

Pretty much all of my friends and colleagues who are on the Left refuse to live somewhere very Tory or I guess these days very Reform. Although the jury is now out on whether being anti Reform is actually feigned elitism.

BIossomtoes · 19/05/2026 11:55

Of course it bothers me. But in every other way the place I’ve chosen to live is perfect. I don’t know anyone who’s chosen where to live based on whether their vote counts. It wouldn’t count any more if I lived in Hackney where they weigh the votes for Diane Abbott!

Choosing where you want to live isn't straightforward. And moving costs money.

BIossomtoes · 19/05/2026 12:11

Exactly. Essentially your vote is “wasted” anywhere apart from a marginal constituency.

mumumental · 19/05/2026 12:12

Can’t we wait until the election starts before smearing everyone in advance? It’s deeply unpleasant.

Araminta1003 · 19/05/2026 12:47

Is there 100 per cent going to be a leadership contest? I seemed to have missed that one…

Too busy berating me about where I live, I guess! 😂
