Lisa Nandy ran for leadership of Labour against Starmer (I voted for her). So how come Wes Streeting is being talked about and pushed forward, but Lisa isn't?

YABU - no one's heard of her
YANBU - this is weird and sucks, especially for a party who is yet to have a woman leader and has been bested by the EDI loving Conservatives on this repeatedly!

She’s one of the ‘of course women can have a penis’ sorts isn’t she? I’d never vote Labour again.

GreatWhiteWail · 13/05/2026 14:29

She's an idiot who said that paedophile men who claim to be women should be allowed to choose a women's prison when they are convicted of their sex crimes.

So no, she is not a talent. She'd be terrible for women and children.

As would Burnham and Raynor, and too many others, but no need to add anymore fuckwits into the mix.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 13/05/2026 14:30

How about "none of the above" as she's getting on with her job?

Please just give all this crap a rest. Thread after thread after thread. Including some downright nasty, personal attacks that have been deleted. Quite rightly.

AnnPerkins · 13/05/2026 14:37

Maybe she's not interested

Yep and actually said men who identify as women should be in women's prisons and had no problem with double rapist isla bryson/Adam Graham being put in an all women's jail.

@acheekyNandys Lisa nandy is the worst kind of aunt Lydia type out there and should be kept as far away from power as possible

Chiachomp · 13/05/2026 14:40

I mean there’s many other reasons why I doubt I’d vote Labour next time (despite an EXCELLENT local MP - sorry) but this would absolutely seal it. But so would Andy Burnham or Angela Raynor getting power so don’t listen to me!

WhatAMarvelousTune · 13/05/2026 14:43

The other day she said (about Starmer) “He stuck to his plan and he turned the situation for the party around - now he wants to do the same for the country and I want him to succeed." So she’s certainly not one of the ones who has come out clearly against him.

Equally, she (and others) might be keeping quiet now, let Streeting look like the one to cause a chaotic leadership election, and then stand for leader herself when that happens.

MyAutumnCrow · 13/05/2026 14:53

Lisa's not the sharpest tool in the box. Not the bravest little soldier, either. She's probably keeping her head down, and - in her Secretary of State role - wondering if Birmingham Invictus is going tits up, what she should say about Eurovision, and how to turn her new computer on.

If you used to be a Labour voter, who do you vote for now?

She did an interview with a paper a few months back, where the interviewer was hinting she had aspirations at the leadership (before all this challenge stuff) so I thought she might be interested, but maybe she'd rather not mount a challenge against a sitting PM

I know you re not asking me but if KS goes, i would have Emily Thornberry as leader/PM.

She has a great back story, very smart, acerbic wit, female! and would tear interviewers and Badenoch to pieces.

Would you rather a male PM who was against gender transition, or a woman PM who was for it? I think it's an interesting position to take to say you'd prefer a man to lead the country than a woman based on their stances on women's rights

Were you previously a Labour voter? If so, is there anyone in the party you could see leading?

Yes I'm wondering that too, and perhaps there's an understanding that ready to lead a party isn't the same as ready to be PM right now

Yes, I think she'd also be a good shout, but for some reason she doesn't seem to have backing inside the party. But then, I'm also starting to think Labour has a misogyny problem because what women HAVE had backing within the party? You can have all the all-women shortlists you like, but when the Tory's have had four women leaders (including three PMs) to your zero, it looks like you have a problem

I would rather have a male PM who I agreed with than a female PM who I didn’t. And that’s generally, not specific just to this issue.

I still do vote Labour. Have done for the last 10 years. I think I’m more of a Tory voter really. Sick of paying so much in tax and feeling like I’m getting nothing in return.

Chiachomp · 13/05/2026 16:15

I just disagree with too many of their policies. Ever increasing welfare. Turning a blind eye to things like marginal rates of tax which if fixed would really boost growth. They have advisors telling them what to do to boost growth. They’re just ignoring them.

And then dithering on the equality guidance. Makes them seem so untrustworthy. Like they think they can chuck women’s rights under a bus and we’ll not notice.

Cos she awful. What about Yvette Cooper?

Purplerocket · 13/05/2026 16:26

Why would any party choose a leader based on EDI? Surely everyone wants who would be best at the job and that certainly isn't Lisa Nandy.

I was making a facetious joke about the Tories being the EDI party because they've actually had female leaders, but it's only partly a joke because I really do suspect Labour has a woman problem.

Yes, I am.

I can't put into words how disappointed I am in the weakness of this government though, I genuinely didn't expect it could be so bad. I thought Starmer had principles and a plan underneath it all, and he just didn't, and the PLP is running amok and he just caves.

So many of the cabinet (and backbenchers) are a massive let down, especially for women. I do like Shabana Mahmood. Streeting has done alright (but a bellwedder, I think, rather than genuine). I am really, really struggling to think of who could actually fix it.

I just want someone competent and serious who actually thinks things through and has a plan, rather than floating about in the wind.
