AIBU to find sandals the hardest shoe to find

A bit of a whinge really and wondering if it is the same for other people. I find sandals so bloody hard to find.

Criteria
Leather
Comfortable
Look stylish - not orthopaedic or for the very elderly
Absolutely no velcro
Can't have a solid strap across the toes, as I have skinny feet and they are always too wide
Ankle or heel strap needed
No wedge heels
No high heels
Not completely flat either
No toe posts
No studs, sequins or anything sparkly

Realise that is a lot of criteria, but it must be possible!

I know you said moshulu look too wide but I have the ginger as ones in multi colours and I love them. They are so comfy and look great (imo). They have a supportive arch if you happen to have high arches like me

Have to agree with the minority who say that sandals are hideous !!

Sometimes people don't have their toes painted and/or don't tan their feet . Grey/white/ veiny feet make me feel ill ........

I agree sandals for the under 4 age group .

This made me laugh. I do paint my toenails but I don’t tan my feet or any other part of me! I’m deathly pale and just don’t tan.
Luckily for you I’m nesh so it’s really hot enough here to wear sandals for about a week out of the year 😂

TheMildManneredMilitant · 13/05/2026 21:19

I hear you OP. I really struggle with summer shoes in general as everything gives me blisters.

But...I've just bought the fitflop Gracie version with the thicker strap and really like them. Feel extremely comfortable although haven't yet put them to the test, and don't look too orthopedic.

Let it go. Sandals look ugly for anyone older than 4. And 4 is pushing it.

Oh god this

I hate sandals, they look horrible, Ive never seen a nice one. Ive tried my best but they just look awful.

Even the most beautiful feet look terrible in sandals. They're just horrible footwear, it makes no odds if someone has tried with their feet

This is what I mean when I say Ive tried my best, I try to be open and embracing of the sandal but given that footwear is the first thing I notice about people, its just downhill from there once I spot the sandal!!

What do you wear in very hot weather then?

villanova · 13/05/2026 21:38

I know you said 'no velcro', but the Trespass Kimbra sandals don't look orthopaedic/ velcro heavy - I have a pair in black, and they're really comfy for all day walking. Trespass have a number of styles/ colours, e.g. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/sports/hiking/womens-walking-sandals/f-brandtrespass

I have a couple of pairs of Menorcan sandals. They can be a bit flat but there are some now with a bit of a wedge.

They are not fully open and they hide a multitude, which is why I like them so much. I only wear sandals when in a hot place, hence only once or twice a year!

Sandals are grim on all but the most elegant feet. Unfortunately I have toe fungus on one foot despite three nail removals it keeps growing back. Some of these featured might do tho, not the scrappy one. So thanks for the thread

Ooh try these:

They come in two width options. The standard one is reasonably narrow and they are extremely comfortable - I got the metallic colour ones, wore them all last summer and they go with everything.

Fit flop gave released a gorgeous thin strappy pair. I wore them on holiday recently and did 1000’s of strips a day she was like walking on a cloud.

ByRedBee · 13/05/2026 22:38

have You tried Ugg or Michael kors

InsolentAnnie · 13/05/2026 22:39

I love my Saltwaters. Also try Morna from Emu (irl they’re a lot less clumpy than they look online)

You weren’t responding to my post but there are probably about 3 very warm days in the uk a year, I just make do with the shoes that I wear the rest of the year round, haven’t died from having warm feet yet 😂

I agree with pps in that I just find sandals hideously ugly and have never seen a pair that I think are nice. I wear flip flops around a pool/beach but other than that, just whatever shoes go with my clothes.

TheChicDreamer · 13/05/2026 22:47

I hate sandals too. They give me the ick. It’s rare to find a pretty pair that doesn’t look a bit orthopaedic or fugly. I especially hate the slappy/ sucky / farty sounds that sweaty feet make while walking in them. I think it stems from feeling repulsed at the sound of my parents’ sandals on holiday when, as an angry teen, everything they did repulsed and annoyed me (shudder)🤣

Saltwater sandals are flat, Op said no to flat! I cant wear flat shoes at all as i have a natural heel of 1.5inches, its really difficult to find sandals with a mid heel

Saltwater sandals are flat, but Heavenly Feet do a style called Saltwater which isn’t. They even do a Skimfut version

I live in sandals in the summer but im so fussy about them. They very easily rub me and the ankle strap has to fit in the exact right place and be the exact level of softness so they don't rub.

I like the chunky sandals that are around alot at the moment but they're so heavy and clunky. I've never had Birkenstocks because I don't like not having an ankle strap.

Unfortunately I've ended up always getting Clarks or Dunlop sandals for comfort and I just end up looking about 40 years my senior.

That’s my problem through what I wear if it’s really hot doesn’t go with my usual footwear.

It’s not the hot feet it’s the hot rest of me, my normal footwear doesn’t go with what I wear when it’s really hot!
