AIBU to find sandals the hardest shoe to find

A bit of a whinge really and wondering if it is the same for other people. I find sandals so bloody hard to find.

Criteria
Leather
Comfortable
Look stylish - not orthopaedic or for the very elderly
Absolutely no velcro
Can't have a solid strap across the toes, as I have skinny feet and they are always too wide
Ankle or heel strap needed
No wedge heels
No high heels
Not completely flat either
No toe posts
No studs, sequins or anything sparkly

Realise that is a lot of criteria, but it must be possible!

@VividDeer a leather footbed should be more comfortable & reduce sweat

Prawnalicious · 13/05/2026 16:56

Maybe Ecco Flash range? Although there may be a bit of Velcro....they are very comfy.

Duckfeet :-)

Personally, though, I looooove their T-Bar sandals, but those are nowhere near your criteria 😜.

ConstitutionHill · 13/05/2026 17:22

Try Fly or Camper.

Let it go. Sandals look ugly for anyone older than 4. And 4 is pushing it.

At last somebody with a sensible opinion. People don't realise how ugly their feet look, even those who say 'I have lovely feet'. It is very inconsiderate pushing this ugliness on blameless onlookers.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/05/2026 17:57

Tu Sainsbury’s have some really nice black leather footbed ones which I’m eyeing up.

Birdsongisangry · 13/05/2026 17:58

I'm not sure if you'd consider these too orthopedic, but Birkenstock have a specific narrow fit available, and I find their buckles go smaller than most. I have narrow, shallow feet which means fixed straps tend to sit too high. Birkenstocks are the only sandals I can wear without needing ankle straps to keep them on.

Saltedtoffee · 13/05/2026 18:36

I bought these from La redoute a couple of years ago they were so comfy and didn't rub

After an afternoon trawling through your suggestions (thank you) , I'm erring towards: https://www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/gracie-leather-strappy-back-strap-sandals-p-A4C#B87

They are a bit flatter than I'd like, but that's roughly what I'm thinking of.

I have these and they are extremely comfortable plus look nice.

Not sure if these would work for you?

This is hideous!

Vivienne1000 · 13/05/2026 18:57

A student recently said to me ‘ I can’t stand it when teachers have their cement grippers out’.
That has put me right off sandals for a while and may keep them for holidays only. I think it’s really hard to find gorgeous sandals - Boden do some lovely ones, but they are not cheap.

I really like those.
I cannot personally stand the thick strapped.ones woth buckles or the ones with ankle straps but each has their own taste.

Cassiemoomoo · 13/05/2026 19:08

I’ve just taken delivery of a pair of Fitflop Gracie’s ( I like them, really don’t care what some rude posters have said!). They are very comfortable, but my feet tend to the wider variety and I find them ever so slightly wide, which was a surprise. OP, if you have narrow feet ,they may be very wide.

pepperaunt · 13/05/2026 19:08

I also have skinny feet and unfortunately find that the expensive brands fit our feet best 😁On the other hand, if your feet are also small (I’m a 37), I can recommend Zara Kids. They’re pretty, really comfortable, and reasonably priced

RainStrops · 13/05/2026 19:11

Agree that sandals are generally hideous. I bought a couple from Repetto many years ago. They are delicate and beautiful. And when they have fallen apart, I don’t know what I will do.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/05/2026 19:12

Art?

The saltwater sandal by Heavenly Feet is lovely. Plenty of different colours as well.

Saltwater sandals are flat, Op said no to flat! I cant wear flat shoes at all as i have a natural heel of 1.5inches, its really difficult to find sandals with a mid heel

honeyrosesandwich · 13/05/2026 19:18

Ive just bought the crocs miami ankle strap ones

RainStrops · 13/05/2026 19:18

These are mostly on the less ugly end of the spectrum. But they are still sandals ;-)

I tried these as I also have narrow feet, I sized down half a size and they were the correct length for me but I found my little toe kept escaping form the strap!
Don’t think I have particularly weird shaped feet either!

Dublassie · 13/05/2026 20:01

Have to agree with the minority who say that sandals are hideous !!

Sometimes people don't have their toes painted and/or don't tan their feet . Grey/white/ veiny feet make me feel ill ........

I agree sandals for the under 4 age group .

Brilliant 😂!!

HelenHywater · 13/05/2026 20:05

Aeyde sandals are nice. But perhaps too flat?
