Was I petty? Or funny?

So, something really funny happened. I got an official letter. It was misgendered, I only realised this whilst on hold. So, when I got through to someone, they asked my name...and then my title. I pointed out that actually, in the letter, it stated Mr, yet I am definitely in fact a Miss. That got washed over with the next question.

End of call questions, is there anything else I can help with? Yes, can you change my title? Oh yes, I have already amended that. Just like that, no drama.

it is funny how easy it is to inform someone, actually, you misgendered me in your letter, can that be corrected please? Already done. AIBU for pointing out that women who are women do not get offended by misgendering? It's more amusing than offensive?

I might have pointed out, after thanking her for amending my title, i was glad she had already done that because I was definitely born with a vagina...but that is because I am petty like that 🤣

So basically there was a typo on an envelope, you told them about it and they amended it.

Petty? Nope.
Funny? Nope.
Weird to feel the need to share on mumsnet? Yep.

Wuewue · 13/05/2026 10:26

I don’t think it was petty or funny, but normal and reasonable, like how normal sane people interact. All the histrionics from people attempting to look like a different gender and clearly failing is truly a peripheral phenomenon by types that need a hobby.

Why are people on a post about misgendering pretending not to know what GC or gender critical means? What was the point of the post if it wasn't about gender? What is going on? I'm hiding this weirdness is what is going on I think

Nobody knew what the post was about before clicking on it, and OPs post wasn’t that clear/her attempts to be funny totally failed so it’s not that weird that not everybody here knows what GC means!

Mumsnet demons go a single day without thinking about genitals and trans people challenge. They literally just ticked the wrong box you Twitter-brained oddity.

This woman just took to the internet to announce that she wasn't upset when someone ticked the wrong box and you're still talking about people who just want to go pee?

But the OP is one of the people pretending not to know what it means, which makes her point a bit obscure...!

I think people with enough concerns about misgendering to post about it know what gender critical means.

Immediately no less. Some very strange people about atm. Everyone is snapping and snarling their way through their lives.

I found it not funny, but pretty eye-rolling because it completely devalued and trivialised an issue that is a big deal for some.

It was a typo, not a mis-gendering, something which normally people would just skim over, but instead you took the pains to make a post, effectively saying "look how well I coped with being mis-gendered, it's really not a big deal".

I'm a late 40s CIS woman and still shook my head.

coulditbeme2323 · 13/05/2026 09:45

So you believe a bloke can become a woman? gotcha

Quite the opposite. I believe in biological sex. I believe that gender is a term used by society but isn't a reality.

You should take a look at the different definitions of "gender" and "sex".

Gender fluidity has been around as long as humans have existed. There are cultures who have recognised more than two genders for many, many centuries.

I assume you're taking about sex as opposed to gender

Well she’s already realised she’s not funny or petty etc so probably no need to keep poking at her for it.

Ok, excuse me for lightly engaging with something that was posted in search of responses and had follow-ups that didn't make any sense. I'm not sure why I merit "poking", but hopefully it was satisfying for you.

Oh calm down. Are you this confrontational about everything? I think you were right, you should hide this thread from yourself if it’s annoying you this much.

StripedVase · 13/05/2026 11:35

I am not your problem, I'm not sure what is! I was dubious about people questioning terminology that's key to what they appear to be posting about. It's not a big deal 😄

SandwichShort · 12/05/2026 13:48

I will enjoy being childish and silly. Fancy that, a moment I could have taken full offence and just laughed it off.

It was just a typo. I don't see why you think it was so hilarious and why you're so cool not to have been 'offended' by it.

CanterThroughChaos · 13/05/2026 11:41

Referring to your genitalia because of a typo probably gave the call centre staff a good laugh, but likely at your expense I’m afraid 🤣

I managed to get all through the thread without thinking about genitals, and then you've mentioned them...? Why on earth would you feel the need to bring genitals into a thread about an admin error?

OP mentioned her vagina in the OP

Zigzaglace · 13/05/2026 12:21

Surely someone just made a mistake, a typo or picked the wrong drop down, it could even have been you. No one misgendered anyone.

I don't understand why it's funny or why you're feeling pleased with yourself.

DappledThings · 13/05/2026 12:25

ToKittyornottoKitty · 13/05/2026 12:13

Yes. Apparently when OP said to the person who had already amended her incorrect title "i was glad she had already done that because I was definitely born with a vagina" that was the thing that was either funny or petty.

It was neither. Just a bit odd.

Kokonimater · 13/05/2026 16:06

I think we need to lay off her now. She’s not nasty or malicious, just has a different sense of humour. She doesn’t need to be so criticised. Be kind

Because I genuinely had no idea what it was and had never heard of it before, I’ve just googled it. The title of the thread didn’t mention misgendering, I didn’t join it and comment to cause more fuss, I thought I was pretty up to date with terms and names but apparently not.

Apparently it’s; Gender-critical is a perspective holding that biological sex is binary, immutable, and distinct from gender identity, often opposing the idea that trans women are women. Proponents argue that sex, not gender identity, should determine access to single-sex spaces. In some jurisdictions, such as the UK, these views are considered protected philosophical beliefs under equality law.

So another name for something that didn’t need naming.

Ellemaggie · 14/05/2026 22:41

I guess the the thing that would be potentially offensive is if you told them they had it wrong and they said "no, no, this is definitely correct" and carried on using it....

It's actually a pretty important thing to name because it means you don't have to type a big paragraph to explain your position. I was using it to point out that whilst I hold the beliefs in the paragraph you have typed above, I can see that it isn't funny to belittle those who hold the opposite beliefs by suggesting that a typo on a form is equivalent to someone pointing out that they know you aren't the sex you are trying to portray yourself as.

I think the OP thought that we would all laugh and say 'yep, those transgender people are so silly, aren't they?", but I don't think they are. I think they are incorrect in their views, but I can appreciate that for many of them they are sincerely held and important to them. I also think that there are some men who deliberately adopt the role of transwomen to gain access to spaces set aside as women's spaces, but that's an aside from this issue.

NewHere83 · 14/05/2026 23:27

Not sure about petty but certainly not funny or clever. Barely coherent to be honest.
