I want to say something profound but what's stuck in my head is my grandmother saying always use a bigger mixing bowl or pan than the one you think is the right size! 🤣

Dontlletmedownbruce · 11/05/2026 23:45

We all train those around us how we want to be treated by them.

whattheysay · 11/05/2026 23:45

Play the hand you’re dealt

Onacuctustree · 11/05/2026 23:46

Trust your gut.

This phase will pass.

To quote Stephen Sondheim:

Careful the things you say - children will listen
Careful the things you do - children will see, and learn.

Don’t be a twat, (Stace).

Wise words to live your life by 😂

YankSplaining · 11/05/2026 23:53

A mother being mentally healthy is more important than a baby being breastfed.

tachetastic · 11/05/2026 23:57

Always remember to unwatch threads before stepping away from Mumsnet!

When faced with the choice of proving you are right, or being happy, choose to be happy.

Just because you like something doesn’t mean you need to own it.

The sunscreen song

I was just reading through all the posts to check no one had put "always wear sunscreen" and you beat me to it by one minute!!! 😂 The best advice ever, but it ties with my Dad's favourite "Least said soonest mended" so true. 😊

tachetastic · 12/05/2026 00:13

I used to think "just be yourself" was a good rule for everyone to live by, until a friend pointed out that no, some people are shits and really need to stop being themselves and change.

tachetastic · 12/05/2026 00:16

It's more important to be nice than to be honest. Honesty is an excuse people use to say what they want without caring about the consequences.

As an autistic person, 'be yourself' has gotten me into so much trouble 😄

Who you are st the office differs from at home to with acquaintances to with people you need to impress

You cannot just go around being yourself 😫

You ride the wave, don’t let the wave ride you.

GondorCallsForAid · 12/05/2026 00:33

You can't reason somebody out of a viewpoint they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

DarkForces · 12/05/2026 00:34

Mine:
Marry the person who smudges your lipstick not your mascara
Be the mirror you want the world to reflect back
Don't be a dick (my house rule)

From my mum:
Fine words butter no parsnips
I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking
She clearly likes vegetable related sayings 😂

Friendlygingercat · 12/05/2026 00:36

Always go with your first gut instinct - especially in business

MrsSmiff · 12/05/2026 00:47

Be yourself as everyone else is taken.

EaglesWings · 12/05/2026 00:47

“Always be financially independent as a woman”!
This advice came from my parents and I’m grateful for it every day.

PlymouthRock · 12/05/2026 00:53

Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
