This year, I’ve seen:

Pride: The Musical
Phantom of the Opera in London
Under Milk Wood
I also streamed National Theatre’s The Importance of Being Earnest at home, but not sure if it counts.

I also have these booked for this year:

Oliver! In London
Operation Mincemeat
Owain and Henry

None. The ticket prices make it impossible.

Lomonald · 11/05/2026 17:25

I haven't seen anything this year we are seeing Hamilton in July with Leslie Odum jr so I had to sell a kidney for that 😀 oh I also streamed the importance of Being Earnest that definitely counts

ButterYellowFlowers · 11/05/2026 17:26

I was meant to see Moulin Rouge and The Cursed Child but have had to rearrange for later in the year. I wanted to see 1536 but yes the ticket prices are too high (cheap seats seem to be sold out) and the Dracula Ballet but the same there.

Uniaccomm · 11/05/2026 17:27

Just Kinky Boots (which was just fabulous). Hoping cheaper tickets might become available for Jesus Christ Superstar as the weeks go on.

WorthySloth · 11/05/2026 17:28

The Greatest Showman in Bristol last week. Absolutely fantastic.

nothing else planned more of a gig person tbh 😁

Lomonald · 11/05/2026 17:28

Kinky Boots is fab we saw it last year on tour.

DawnBreaks · 11/05/2026 17:28

Miss Saigon when it toured. Took my Mum as a birthday treat. It was truly amazing. Also a local production of Joseph and his amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Love those songs! But that’s probably it for this year.

AgnesMcDoo · 11/05/2026 17:28

Witness for the Prosecution
The Hunger Games Musical
Miss Saigon

I saw loads more in 2025

P00hsticks · 11/05/2026 17:32

A Sherlock Holmes one whose name I can't remember
Murder For Two

I have a few more lined up for later in the month / year.

All at a nearby small theatre where the cheapest tickets are £20, so I can afford to go to quite a few.

Unreleasedbillable · 11/05/2026 17:34

Saw Road at the Royal Exchange. It was OK, patchy. Interesting use of the theatre outside the auditorium.

Tickets for a couple of other things later this year.

You do know this thread is about to be inundated by people telling you they can’t afford theatre and you’re a tone deaf elitist, don’t you?

None. The ticket prices make it impossible.

I hear you.

My tickets to see Phantom of the Opera, Oliver! and Owain and Henry were birthday and Christmas gifts. I wouldn’t be able to afford to see them otherwise.

Regional theatre tickets are much cheaper than the West End ones!

Matilda
Fawlty Towers
Seeing Moulin Rouge soon

Miss Saigon is touring local to me very soon. I can’t justify/afford booking another show for this year, maybe next time it tours!

None.
All of my disposable income goes on horses and live music!

Peakypolly · 11/05/2026 17:49

The Spy who came in from the Cold
Paddington
Sunny Afternoon
All is but Fantasy
Midsommer Murders

still to see in '26

Fourteen Again
Miss Saigon
The Cherry Tree
The Tempest
The Archers:Live at 75 (twice!)
Eric and Ern
Honk

I love theatre, and family and friends know that tickets for that and live music gigs are my best present. I also give tickets as gifts because then I get to go along as well.

I am jealous. I long to see Hamilton, and that’s a very special run!

Rocky Horror, small local production of rock of ages.

Going to see Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Hamilton (with Leslie Odum Jr) and six later this year. Hoping to squeeze in another ciuple of shows in Autumn but also want to go to Disneyland Paris so need to decide.

Already booked Cats for next year.

weareallcats · 11/05/2026 17:54

Henry V and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the RSC - very lucky to be local. Nothing in London yet this year - I’d like to see Cabaret.

Upcoming I have more RSC - The Tempest, The Cherry Orchard, The Mad King, Middlemarch. Also The Car Man (Matthew Bourne).

Buzzer3555 · 11/05/2026 17:57

Punch at Nottingham playhouse. Terrific

The Spy who came in from the cold is my only so far.

Have a few things booked, including Hamilton with Leslie Odum Jr in August.

None. The ticket prices make it impossible.

Booking in advance does help this though...if you would be interested in Miss Saigon (on autumn & winter 2027 ) or Into The Woods (on this autumn & winter), now is a good time to book for stuff like this.

KingscoteStaff · 11/05/2026 18:12

Copenhagen, Dracula, 1536, Into the Woods, Our Town.

Still to come, Arcadia, Les Liasons, The Cherry Orchard.

Also, making plans to book for Sunday in the Park.

Greyeyesgreenlight · 11/05/2026 18:15

Not that many yet this year.
Into the Woods at The Bridge. Cheap seats at the side of stage.
Hadestown teen edition, locally, it was fab.
Henry V at the RSC, family live locally which is excellent for us.
Paranormal Activity, which was much better than I expected with great effects.
Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift. It was on tour near us and was hilarious.
DC1 and DH went to the Frantic Assembly anniversary show Lost Atoms too, DC2 was ill, so we had to stay at home.

We have just three booked, but will pick up some more over the summer.
Come From Away, an amateur production locally put on by a great company.
Ride the Cyclone at Southwark. Can't wait for this one.
As You Like It at the RSC, with Jonathan Groff!

Theatre tickets are very expensive, but there are deals to be had and local and regional theatres to support.

Both my DCs love drama, so it's one of the things we prioritise spending on. The RSC shows on my list are the most expensive this year, at about £65 per ticket, but there were cheaper seats and they have discounts for under 18s. The National is excellent for cheaper tickets. And The Bridge often has very close to stage seats at £35 or so.

We often do Kidsweek in August, which can be a bun fight but is a good way to take children to The West End if you're willing to try a less popular show or something a bit different.
