We had front row seats for Shadowlands at the weekend.

The only other one I've seen so far this year was Dear England.

Pinkladyapplepie · 11/05/2026 21:30

Fiddler on the roof, Six and Miss Saigon.. Me and two of my grown kids go for Xmas and our birthdays, we do sit in cheapest seats, wasn't a fan of Miss Saigon🙁

SinuousTendrils · 11/05/2026 19:31

Henry V
The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui - probably the best play I've seen.

Wasn’t it incredible?! I’ll go again if it moves to London (would have gone again in Stratford but it’s completely sold out). Mark Gatiss winked at me (was at the front, but side on)!

MoonfaceBestie · 11/05/2026 21:53

Gabby's dollhouse live... 🙄

WildGarden · 11/05/2026 22:07

The Mousetrap. Enjoyed the production but MY GOD those seats are uncomfortable.

i don’t think it was intended as smug at all. You seem somewhat thin skinned and prickly — have you been in the UK too long 😆

Well in fairness, Americans get so much grief on here for being 'unrefined' that I assumed this just was another 'Europeans are so much more advanced' post—which frankly always gets my hackles up. Also, I don't even live in the UK (which you'd be able to tell if you read my original post!)

ZenNudist · 11/05/2026 23:34

Operation Mincemeat

Flatandhappy · 11/05/2026 23:50

I’ve seen Anastasia and The Lion King. I’m going to see Anastasia again in a few weeks with DD as I bought two lots of tickets by mistake, not sure how that happened!

Had tickets for Pretty Woman but was in hospital so had to give them away.

Went to a school performance of Beauty and the beast last week and left at the interval.

Just bought tickets for The Nutcracker ballet in December.

I’d love to see Fiddler on the Roof on stage (I loved the film!) I think it toured near me last year, but I missed it.

Speaking from experience, theatre tickets make the best Christmas and birthday gifts. 🙂

Just Here & Now the Steps Musical

Absolutely bloody brilliant!
I would absolutely go again!
I am really sad that it's only on for a finite time!!

Perfidia · 12/05/2026 05:04

Last month - The Wooster Group: Nayatt School Redux. Not sure the humour translated across ocean and decades.

This month - Escaped Alone.
Epic - even in Italian with English surtitles.

Both at The Coronet, Notting Hill.

Also recently: All My Sons - National Theatre streamed at my local cinema. Outstanding ensemble casting and a beautiful production.

(I dislike the West End theatre experience and actively avoid it even though I can access discounted tickets.)

What a weirdly smug comment 😭 'We read Dickens and Hardy'—okay? American schools also teach higher-brow literature later on. The Outsiders is just an extremely standard middle school book because it’s hugely relatable to young teens, and was literally written by a 15-year-old, which is part of why kids connect to it so strongly. Sorry we weren’t assigning emotionally repressed Victorian suffering and 600 pages of fog to seventh graders.

It wasn't meant to be smug - quite the opposite - would have loved to have read the outsiders and other books like it - already said I was jealous you went to see it at the theatre
Having to stick to the 'classics' wasn't exciting or mind opening
Sorry you were offended as it was not intended

namechangetheworld · 11/05/2026 20:36

Took DD9 to see a touring production of Hairspray, and both her and DD6 to see Joseph. Both were great fun but Hairspray was astounding.

I would take them every week given the chance, we all love the theatre (bar DH who is a miserable sod), but we simply can't afford it. Would love to take them to watch Paddington but the ticket prices are extortionate.

Edited

Book ahead. I booked a year in advance and got stalls for £70. It’s open for booking currently until 2028 I think.

LetMeStayInBed · 12/05/2026 07:16

My neighbour Tortoro.
I have tickets for Hot Mess which I saw last year and LOVED and now it’s back. I have the National Theatre at home app. Recently watched Death of England closing Time.

TorroFerney · 12/05/2026 07:29

LittleJustice · 11/05/2026 20:11

Those teenagers in the bed were a nightmare and I was desperate for the Loo I was just thinking hurry up and die ffs 😫

We are going to see The Tempest on Thursday at RSC I am so excited- Kenneth Brannagh as Prospero!

We have discovered with the Royal Exchange if you go to the preview shows you can get tickets for as cheap as £12 so we're trying to go and see everything this year.

The current show, Private Lives was brilliant. And we have tickets for the next show Even These Things

We have Hobson's choice in Hebden Bridge soon as well.

Oh I love hobsons choice (and Hebden bridge).

The Spy who came in from the Cold
Paddington
Sunny Afternoon
All is but Fantasy
Midsommer Murders

still to see in '26

Fourteen Again
Miss Saigon
The Cherry Tree
The Tempest
The Archers:Live at 75 (twice!)
Eric and Ern
Honk

I love theatre, and family and friends know that tickets for that and live music gigs are my best present. I also give tickets as gifts because then I get to go along as well.

How was The Spy… ?
We’re off to see it this week in Liverpool.

I'm interested how they transfer the book & film to the stage and if Ralf Little can do ‘serious’.

Peakypolly · 12/05/2026 10:14

@tanstaafl
I found it very engaging and the time flew past. I must admit, I didn't know the book and I got the tickets primarily for DH as he is a Smiley fan. Luckily he really enjoyed it as well.
Hope you like it!

I know that’s what you said, which is why I was confused when it suddenly seemed to go from “I’d love to see The Outsiders” to “lol Americans are dumb, we only read classics in middle school,” because frankly that’s how 99% of posts about Americans usually go. 😭 No worries though. I genuinely hope you get to see it someday!! (And definitely listen to the cast album and read the book!!!)
