A tangy conundrum

You know when you just want a good classic salt and vinegar crisp, nothing fancy, no balsamic, no Himalayan pink salt, nothing highbrow? Once upon a time I would never have deviated from walkers, but now, in my menopausal years, I’m a complete convert to golden wonder. Anyone else feel the same or AIBU?

I've always preferred golden wonder to walkers, for any flavour
But for S&V my favourite is McCoys

NotAnotherScarf · 11/05/2026 16:33

Yep golden wonder out strips walkers across all flavours in my view

NetballHoop · 11/05/2026 17:09

Salt & Vinegar Discos. If your lucky, you'll get a packet that'll make your eyes water.

EnglishBreakfastTea1 · 11/05/2026 17:12

Sainsbury’s own are nice, if a bit greasy.

EdinaTheConfessor · 11/05/2026 17:20

S&V used to be my favourite flavour but I’ve actually gone off the walkers ones recently. We tend to get walkers as they sell them in Aldi so my default is ready salted.

I do like S&V McCoys, hula hoops and french fries though. oh and seabrook when I’m at the blood donation centre.
i don’t usually get Golden Wonder, I’ll have to give them a go.

BobbysDazzler · 11/05/2026 17:23

For salt and vinegar it has to be kettle chips, but I'm afraid they are balsamic and sea salt.

I don't like the texture so much as they can be a bit hard, but the taste is phenomenal compared to any other ❤️ 🤤

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 11/05/2026 17:46

Have you tried Seabrook? Lush

Oh the flavour bomb in the bottom corner, finding that made for the best day ever!
My youngest got one of those from Monster Munch some years ago. I'm still jealous.

If I’m feeling a bit posh, I do like the M&S combo mix salt and vinegar…

Salt and Vinegar Squares. That is all.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 11/05/2026 20:21

The nicest salt and vinegar crisps are Pipers. Walkers haven't been and good for years and years.

Yes - these are the most extreme. Love them!

Savvysix1984 · 11/05/2026 20:28

I’m mad about S&v crisps and the best ones are 100% the co-op own brand. They burn the mouth of me, in a nice way.

There’s a time and a place for a balsamic crisp but sometimes you just want the basic one!

Several of the team at a previous job were fans. Every so often you’d see the face that meant they had a mouthful of vinegar. I love Discos.

Walkers should never be forgiven for flipping the "salt 'n' vinegar = blue, cheese 'n' onion = green" convention. That's when the world started going downhill imho. If anyone is responsible for the decline of human ethics, morals and civilisation generally, it's Walkers Crisps. The evil charlatans 😀

UnNiddeRides · 12/05/2026 22:48

Which? did a taste test of S&V crisps, albeit the posh big bags not the individual ones, and Co-Op’s won.

Isn't this an example of the Mandela effect. Walkers have said they have never been different colours.

Rainbowlou0001 · 12/05/2026 23:08

Coop own S&V is the only one for me…literally strips off your taste buds with the flavour 😄

Notashamed13 · 12/05/2026 23:10

Got to be salt and vinegar Discos! Lick each and every one before munching! 😎

I think they're lying 😀
Dunno really, but I can remember a point when everyone was asking 'why have they changed it?'
If in doubt, blame it on Thatcher 😀

saltnpepperchips · 12/05/2026 23:16

Salt and vinegar chip sticks do it for me

Tcateh · 12/05/2026 23:24

Salt and vinegar potato twirls from Tesco.
