To think Keir Starmer might resign tomorrow (Monday)

I think he might. But who knows. He must know he can't possibly stay until the next General Election. It's very disrespectful to the electorate to not listen.

@Boopybop indont think there is any danger of another labour term.
They cannot self reflect , look at starmers move after such a loose and angela Raynor asking for more nmw rises to help young people into work ???

Sartre · 11/05/2026 07:13

I think he’ll be pushed out too. They were already starting the smear campaign before the election with the Mandelson shit. This is usually how it goes. They’ll find some more dirt on him and push that till he’s forced to leave or the backbenchers will start turning against him. It’s always the same story. Sadly suspect Streeting will take over, I don’t get good vibes from him at all - it should be Burnham.

Sartre · 11/05/2026 07:15

Also think Rayner was pushed out over an absolute non issue so if she had to go for that but he doesn’t after those massive election losses, it’s just double standards.

You don’t thing ministers should resign when they break the law?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/05/2026 07:18

Of course he won’t

Bananasareberries · 11/05/2026 07:26

Given Burnham is not an MP, one person it shouldn’t be is him. Dropping him into a safe seat, over ruling any local selection committee’s choice for their own constituency MP, in order to get him in is exactly the sort of manipulations and riding roughshod over democracy that will see labour voted out next term.

If Burnham is confident of his democratic appeal, perhaps he should try standing in the upcoming Aberdeen South or Arbroath by-elections.

Greenwitchart · 11/05/2026 07:40

No, he will have to be pushed out...

He is absolutely tone deaf and does not accept he is destroying the party and making a path for Farage to get into government at the GE.

Time for a new leader and real Labour policies.

socks1107 · 11/05/2026 07:50

I hope he goes off his own back or pushed

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 11/05/2026 08:48

It’s obvious why some posters are speaking up for Starmer, and it’s got nothing to do with his suitability to be PM.

He’s not actually liked or admired by anyone, on here or anywhere else, even among Labour die-hards. There’s nothing capable or inspiring or sympathetic or noble about him at all. He’s dull and unpleasant. Everyone can see that he is both talentless and not someone you’d want to end up having to talk to at a Christmas party.

So all the calls on MN for him to stay on are really just fear among the party faithful that Labour will have no ‘Tory chaos’ attack slogan any longer. And for a party whose only claim is not being like the last government, that’s fatal to Labour. It’s also very embarrassing for the Labour faithful.

Is this still about Johnson who partied when people died?

What will you do when Starmer gets replaced? Stop moaning about Labour or continue to moan about the next PM?

Interesting that you don‘t even bother to try to defend Starmer as a worthwhile Prime Minister.

I fully expect to continue to oppose this government. I also fully expect that Rayner, Streeting or Burnham will be easier to like, even if they turn out to be just as useless as Starmer.

Worthwile is an interesting word to use.

Moan about the next PM. Especially if it is Rayner. The insults that would be flung at her will make the ones flung at Starmer look positively affectionate.

Apparently no one did the same for the last gov, and a few mners are responsible for the downfall of this one ;

Labour have a difficult choice keep Starmer who is loathed by many or twist.

I just don't think you will get people defending Starmer in the same way as people defended Johnson and now Farage, there is a bit of a cult around the latter two with self confessed fans.

I don't understand why you want him gone when you are celebrating the Labour losses and want their demise.

Yet if he said on Friday that he’d be resigning, I’m sure he’d think he was fickle and working against his party and only acting in his own interests.

So he can’t really win either way, can’t he? Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.

Let me guess - you would’ve preferred for him never to have been PM. Who would you like instead of him?

Your first para applies to posters on here. Of course it does, you and others defend him on each thread.

On why I want him gone yes he’d probably tank Labour further and see them out entirely but three years is a long time. It might help Labour to have someone else, but I’ll take that for the reprieve.

Not at all. You’re vocal about supporting Starmer and Labour. That’s fine, it’s not really working though.

I am also vocal about criticising Starmer and Labour

And got accused of not defending Starmer a few posts ago

Like I said, you are misreading posts

"It's very disrespectful to the electorate to not listen."

But didn't the electorate elect him in 2024 to do the job he's doing?
These local elections are local elections. They're about bins and libraries, not the PM.

caringcarer · 11/05/2026 10:04

I don't think he will be PM going into next election. He is so unpopular with electorate and election campaigns start about a year before the actual election and build up pace. I think he's a liar and I ew full well about Mandy. He was advised by many in his cabinet but stubbornly refused to listen to others. I think it's more likely Reeves goes now Brown is back on the scene because as a chancellor he was about 100 times better than Reeves.

HoraceCope · 11/05/2026 10:04

i think he wont

HoraceCope · 11/05/2026 10:07

he is making incremental changes
