To name a view

wealth tax
Defending the human rights act
Drug legalisation
Public ownership of water, energy and transport
replacing first past the post with PR

Previously when the Greens were talking about a wealth tax, they started talking about people earning over £50k...
What do you like about the legalisation of GHB, the date rape drug?

I agree with all this OP, and his support for the Palestinian people too 💚

What in God's name have local elections got to do with Palestine?

LoyalMember · 07/05/2026 17:25

No chance. They're anti semitic racists, and their strings are being pulled by others.

I'm curious to know who is actually funding the Greens now? Since they are fielding an awful lot of people in these local elections it will be costing a lot of money. Does anyone know the source of their funding?

The Labour Party was founded in Trade Unionism to represent working class people, yet hasn't been identifiably Socialist since the 1970s. That didn't stop people handing them a thumping majority two years ago.

All political parties morph and change over time.

Changing to keep up with changes in society is fair enough. But Labour and the Greens have dumped or sidelined their central founding principles.

It’s lucky for those leading the Greens that they currently look like a bright new option to replace the stuffy old parties.

Anyone who joins and gets involved will quickly find out that care for the environment is way down the priority list. And its hierarchy is viciously intolerant of anyone who won’t bow to the currently fashionable dogma, such as gender ideology.

Lins77 · 07/05/2026 17:32

Peaceplants · 07/05/2026 17:00

I am left leaning by ethos and very interested in environmental issues, so the Greens really ought to be my party, but they're so left as to be almost extremist and many of them, the leader included, are stark raving mad to the extent that they're dangerous IMO.

This election has me worried and I've been looking at stats and onsidering how my vote can be best used to keep Reform out, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd vote Reform before Green, although it would be a very bitter pill to swallow.

If I ever voted Reform I think my head would explode right there in the polling station.

GingerdeadMan · 07/05/2026 17:32

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 07/05/2026 16:16

Labour have nothing to do with working people anymore. They just want reasonable taxes and a competent government. Not a government led by people who want to spend their time telling us that women have penises

Yet when directly asked what their priority issues are, it's approximately 1-2% of the UK public who cite "Gender issues" as an electoral concern.

Despite FWR being wholly and utterly consumed by the idea that this is the most important issue possible, it simply doesn't register with the vast bulk of the voting public when it comes to putting an X in a box and electing a government.

Those bloody feminists, prioritising women's rights!

In other news 'why are all the posts on the doghouse board about dogs? Will nobody think of the cats? '

PropertyD · 07/05/2026 17:32

What has Palestine got to do with the UK. Its creeping into UK politics. There are 4 Independents in Birmingham voted in on one issue - Gaza. And that man who refused to shake Jess Phillips hand when he lost.

Is that what UK politics has become?

PowerfulFireHorse · 07/05/2026 15:38

Totally agree. But sadly MN won't as the people on here love to bash the Greens 😞

Agreed. MN has almost as many rabid anti-Green ideologues who favour Reform as it does rabid anti-trans ideologues who attack anyone and anything that goes against their prejudices.

Agree with you, OP, but this is really, really, really not the place you'll get a favourable welcome.

Pride in his identity? His family, all bar his mother, have completely distanced themselves from him. That says an awful lot in my book.

Allegedly, some of his family have said they will leave the country if he ever became PM!

loislovesstewie · 07/05/2026 17:37

I wonder where his family would go to? 🤔

As it happens having read a number of threads about Polanski and the Greens today it has struck me consistently that most posters find Reform to be as unpalatable as the current Green Party. But don't let that get in the way of your prejudice.

MulberryBrandy · 07/05/2026 17:39

Why do we think the Greens have had such a surge in popularity recently? I would have thought Caroline Lucas was the real deal if you want to vote Green. The recent leaders not so much. Is it to do with an increase in younger people?

LeavingAtLast · 07/05/2026 17:40

YABU. They’re an antisemitic bunch of lunatics

Lins77 · 07/05/2026 17:40

If I had to vote either Reform or Green, or die, I'd have to vote Green. But I'd hate it and that's entirely due to the current state of the party.

Gallowayan · 07/05/2026 17:40

Got to be a troll post.

While I would certainly advise against voting for dodgy Nige, it shouldn't surprise you that a large number of people on a site called 'mumsnet' thinks women's rights are important.

Remember this one?

“One in five care workers are foreign nationals,” he [ZP] said. “Now, I don’t know about you – but I don’t particularly want to wipe someone’s bum.”

What's the Mumsnet saying? Believe someone when they tell you who they are?

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/zack-polanski-immigration-outburst-typifies-060000132.html

That was a doozy - he managed sexism, classism and racism all in one outburst.

I’m sure the thousands of carers up and down the country were delighted to hear they are unskilled and just bum wipers. It also showed lack of concern for the quality of care or the needs of care receivers - they should have no expectation of skilled, considerate care, they must be grateful for a “bumwiper” who may not even have relevant communication skills.

It was a match for some of Farage’s belters before he got a grip on unscripted appearances.

Don't be silly, we women should only want rights if it doesn't upset the men too much 🙄

Yes, what an incredibly insulting way to characterise the hugely important work of social carers, and equally disrespectful to people who need care. It's about a hell of a lot more than bum-wiping, Zack.

lornad00m · 07/05/2026 17:51

Eugh! Good on some issues. Horrible on others. So I can't give you a definitive answer.

Welcome to politics in the UK 2026. 😒

glitterpaperchain · 07/05/2026 17:54

Agree! The Greens are the only viable party for me at this point, because they don't take corporate donations like the other parties. I think that shows their loyalty really lies with the people, while other parties will be looking to do favours for their corporate donors.

Plus I like that the Greens have a really holistic outlook on the issues, lots of joined up and long term thinking.

You won't get support here though as MN is very anti Green, the amount of complete misinformation I've seen on here!

Fixydodah · 07/05/2026 17:54

Greens and Reform now have similarities in their untrustworthiness to lead and I wouldn’t want either to be in power. Both headed up by people with dubious personalities.

TeenagersAngst · 07/05/2026 17:56

2andadog · 07/05/2026 16:53

It's good to see how many people get their education on political parties from tabloid newspapers and their algorithm then supports the bias they believe...

YANBU OP. Greens are not perfect by a large stretch, but the fact they're being smeared so much and their policies misrepresented shows they're obviously being seen as a threat by other parties....

I hope they do well in these local elections, even if it's just as a wake up call to the larger parties. Those saying Greens will be back for women, I really hope you're not voting for any of the parties on the right...

The smear trope is so overused. Any party which is doing well in the polls will invite greater scrutiny. That is all that's happening here. It happened to Reform last year but I'm sure you didn't mind that sort of scrutiny....
