As I am not an anti semite I hope they do miserably

Lins77 · 07/05/2026 16:02

I've voted Green in the past occasionally, but current Scottish Greens are loopy. No chance I'm voting for them!

To name a view

wealth tax
Defending the human rights act
Drug legalisation
Public ownership of water, energy and transport
replacing first past the post with PR

So nothing to do with the environment then...

Ablondiebutagoody · 07/05/2026 16:03

I'm constantly surprised that people admit to supporting that hateful bunch of anti-semites.

"Everything is the fault of rich people and Jews". Sound familiar.....?

Completely reasonable to support any of those things in a democracy, but Polanski's understanding of human rights is rather limited.

FernandoSor · 07/05/2026 16:05

I'm split between LDs and Green candidates. We have a new unitary authority so we are effectively voting in a 'shadow' authority who will shadow the existing county and borough councils for a year. We are an LD stronghold, however both Green candidates in my ward are excellent - both locals who are well known and their aims are 'traditional' Green: prioritising nature, the environment, and reducing pollution, especially sewage discharges into our local rivers.

Polanski is very clear about where he stands on the human rights of knife-wielding terrorists... Oh sorry, I meant victims of police brutality!

Do you have children? How do you feel about date rape drugs?

MyTrivia · 07/05/2026 16:07

Where I live it’s currently Greens vs Reform. Reform horrifies me. Im glad to hear it isn’t like that nationwide..

OrdinaryGirl · 07/05/2026 16:07

I see this is your first post or comment on Mumsnet, OP. People will be interested to note this!

SusanChurchouse · 07/05/2026 16:08

My local green list MSP seems like a decent chap and I’d be happy to see him re-elected.

Upstartled · 07/05/2026 16:11

What is it about the party led by the anti-semitic, women-hating, reality denying, fiscally reckless tit-whisperer, that you find appealling, op?

I'm really interested in how people have got from 'we support drug legalisation and treating addiction as a medical condition rather than a crime' to 'you will be able to buy ketamine and GHB at the corner shop'.

ToadRage · 07/05/2026 16:13

I confess out of my 3 votes, I did give one to the greens. I based my decision solely on their disability policies cos that's what is most important to me. I can't condone anti-semetism but I didn't want reform or labour either.

PrincessOfPreschool · 07/05/2026 16:13

Maray1967 · 07/05/2026 15:42

They’re a complete joke. I’d vote Tory before I’d vote Green, and that is saying a lot.

I'm afraid it's come to that for me too. Although I do prefer green to Reform, they are similarly campaigning on national issues in local elections, which has lost my respect. I'm sad to say no party appeals to me anymore. I voted for the local Residents Association on district and county councils.

PolkaDotPorridge · 07/05/2026 16:16

YABVVVU and naive!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 07/05/2026 16:16

Labour have nothing to do with working people anymore. They just want reasonable taxes and a competent government. Not a government led by people who want to spend their time telling us that women have penises

Yet when directly asked what their priority issues are, it's approximately 1-2% of the UK public who cite "Gender issues" as an electoral concern.

Despite FWR being wholly and utterly consumed by the idea that this is the most important issue possible, it simply doesn't register with the vast bulk of the voting public when it comes to putting an X in a box and electing a government.

Our Green candidates are not campaigning on national issues at all. From their leaflet:

If elected I will:

  • Promote habitat restoration and create nature corridors to protect the biodiversity of our local area
  • Ensure we have the right people and resources in place to manage our green spaces for everyone
  • Make sure SEND provisions in our schools are properly funded so that no family has to fight for the support their child needs
  • Help our communities grow closer together by supporting local initiatives for young people including sports, arts and culture
  • Give greater support to our key workers and push to improve access to sustainable energy for all
This is a beautiful part of the world and I will dedicate myself to keeping it that way.

And the second candidate:

If elected, I would work for greener, fairer and more accountable local government. That means:

  • Protecting nature and improving community infrastructure
  • Supporting families and young people
  • Pushing for better environmental standards
  • Making sure public money is used ethically and responsibly

Is that an implication that I'm soft on sexual violence because I support drug policy reform?

They're separate issues. Legalisation and regulation is about taking supply out of the hands of criminals and reducing harm.

If you want to talk about tackling drink spiking and sexual assault, I'm happy to, but conflating the two isn't a serious argument.

If you want someone as repulsive as him, then good luck. Luckily, council elections are meaningless in the great scheme of things, 👍

PeachOctopus · 07/05/2026 16:20

Polanski’s only real world experience is for The National company for Circus Skills and as a hypnotherapist. I just feel that we need people in power who have more financial experience and are a bit more financially savvy.

loislovesstewie · 07/05/2026 16:21

Only if you want a load of antisemites who think that a woman can have a penis.

I'm really interested in how people have got from 'we support drug legalisation and treating addiction as a medical condition rather than a crime' to 'you will be able to buy ketamine and GHB at the corner shop'.

But oddly that isn't what I said or suggested. I couldn't actually care less what kind of drugs people buy or where they can buy them if they only use them on themselves. The trouble with date rape drugs is they are made to be used on unwilling victims, and if you legalise all drugs then that includes that kind too.But perhaps you hadn't thought much before you posted.

KTheGrey · 07/05/2026 16:23

Not so much unreasonable as insane.
