Whoever you are voting for today, it's probably not Labour - they might loose 2,000 seats.

How long exactly will it be before he resigns?

As I have said on other threads. Labour are in their own echo chamber and won’t listen to anyone that doesn’t agree with them.

Why not invite say Reform voters into Downing Street. Really listen to what they are saying. Don’t dismiss their views or ask someone in your echo chamber what they think.

Immgration is a real issue with many voters. Birmingham is a prime example of what can happen if you shout ‘racist’ to anyone who shows concern as to what is happening there. Women in a particular area are nowhere to be seen politically in some of these areas.

There was a great piece in the FT yesterday which included a poll ‘Labour are arrogant and look down on the voter’ or similar.

It was illuminating.

Exactly - all having a massive impact on ‘working people’.

But not increasing their tax.

BIossomtoes · 09/05/2026 11:35

But not increasing their tax.

Fiscal drag IS increasing everyone's tax.

Employers NIC increases is also effectively a tax on workers in that the employer may have to cut pay rises because they now have to pay a shed load more in employers NIC.

They've increased income tax on dividends so that hits self employed people legitimately using limited companies (and also freelancers who HAVE TO work through limited companies dictated by their clients!). Such people are also caught by employers NIC rises if caught by IR35.

Well, well, well! Drastic action. Gordon Brown and Harriet Harmen have been brought back into No 10. Harmen as adviser for women and girls, Brown as special envoy on global finance.

Looks like not only will Starmer do anything to save his skin, the project has rallied to save the
government.

ilovesooty · 09/05/2026 12:01

It doesn't seem as though he'll be off by Monday night.

My tax has increased under Labour. They were sneaky with the wording in the manifesto. I’m not sure why you keep defending what are semantics and not the lived experience of voters.

That’ll work with everyone who voted against Starmer and Labour. Photo ops with Brown.

You are wrong on one aspect - a lot of the most needy will be the idiots voting for it - they just don’t realise it yet -played straight into the hands of people like yourself - I’m entrepreneurial too and a business, doesn’t turn you into a nasty piece of work - you know full well many not very well educated voted not realising cut this cut that, remove xyz means ‘them’

Not convinced calling voters ‘idiots’ usually works out well for the name-caller.

But, you do you.

Wow - to say that smacks of desperation….

Ps. What reset number are we at? I’ve lost count.

Lost count now, but this is the reset of all resets!

Yes, desperation but the Starmer project was not meant to fail. Will not fail….but hopefully it will.

My tax has increased too - because my income has increased. The only real tax rise I’ve had in the last two years is council tax and that has nothing to do with the government.

It will be interesting to see how Harriet Harman and Bridgette Phillipson address the delay in the publishing of the supreme court’s ruling on biological sex and single sex spaces.

They literally have brought the grownups in the room now haven’t they? It just shows how bad things are.

Does that apply to those voting Reform calling anyone left of Goebbels ‘lefties’ or communists or even worse - ugly socialist mingers etc - seems free speech only works one way with Reform supporters. Asa Lib Dem voter, sometimes Labour ( depending where I’ve lived) and have a business , the presumption we all want to let anyone and his mother in without scrutiny and are remotely interested in trans issues or vegans ( I’m not into any of them ) etc etc is off the scale. I’m originally from a Reform voting midlands mining town- the majority of men there are like Lee Anderson, big mouthed ,chip on their shoulder and very much of the cash in hand mentality - and yep they are idiots. They believe in freedom of speech, so I will do likewise, - why should I be polite and accommodating, when they simply are not into listening as to why Farage is a very bad idea- maybe the 380 Euro each a month healthcare if it happens on insurance will hammer it home ( that’s how much it is in Germany)

They literally have brought the grownups in the room now haven’t they? It just shows how bad things are.

The ruling was published a long time ago. Phillipson is delaying the EHRC guidance on how to implement the ruling. She has been sitting on it since September. Some organisations are using that as a get out, arguing that they cannot do anything until the EHRC guidance is published, notwithstanding the fact that they don't need that guidance to tell them they need to comply with the law as laid down by the Supreme Court. All indications are that Phillipson is delaying the guidance because she disagrees with the Supreme Court. Her submission to the court when the misnamed Good Law Project attempted to challenge the draft guidance argued in favour of allowing women's facilities to be classed as single sex even if they allowed trans women, which is clearly contrary to the Supreme Court's judgement.

I don't think adding Harriet Harman into the mix will help. She is of the view that single sex spaces for women should only exclude trans women where necessary. All indications are that this government intends to do everything it can to block implementation of the Supreme Court judgement, just as the SNP is doing in Scotland.

That is shocking.

I thought the SC ruling would give Labour a way out that they would be glad to take. I expected that they would move on from this trans nonsense and point to the case if they were confronted by activists.

To frustrate a clear interpretation of the law in the way the government seems to be doing is unforgivable.

MNLurker1345 · 09/05/2026 14:22

@prh47bridge, the aim of this new role will be to be seen as the voice of common sense, whilst
the government holds onto a nonsensical position, I guess!

It won’t be to implement UK law or reassure women that this government cares about biological sex protections, because they don’t,
do they?

I think he’s probably a narcissist.

He might just be, who knows?

But it is not just him is it? Hence the bringing in of the labour grandees.

I personally think he would resign if he could but this government cannot be allowed to collapse.

Labour as an establishment has its moment in government right now and they need to make the fundamental changes to the UK political system that they feel are necessary and they will not be stopped by an ineffectual PM. They will do as they have done, step in and bolster the party.

Good luck to them!

But not increasing their tax.

Incorrect - rates of dividend tax increased in April.
