Colleague farting on video - disrespectful?

Arsenalfann · 06/05/2026 21:40

My role is quite varied and one of the responsibilities is videography as the company is keen to share more details of what it is we do. It’s a good sized company, a fair few employees and I guess you’d describe it as a corporate setting.

I was filming a particular department today - a ‘livelier’ atmosphere than some of the company you could say, but everyone kind and jovial.

One of the colleagues came up to me as I was filming background shots and raised their leg and broke wind in my direction. They said ‘get that in Jen’ and started howling with laughter with the colleague stood next to them.

I am all for a laugh, but found this to be a lack of respect for myself and my role?

What on earth type of place do you work where anyone would think doing that was acceptable?
Absolutely disgusting. Not funny. Not appropriate.

drunkelephant83 · 06/05/2026 21:45

This tickled me 😂

LondonSymphony · 06/05/2026 21:46

Grim. I’ve ever worked anywhere where that would be considered appropriate.

Happytaytos · 06/05/2026 21:47

Made me laugh. Are they a bit fed up of being videoed? What's the audience for the videos?

That particular one was internal, for the awards night in July.

Yuck. I hate fart humour in general though. It’s never acceptable.

user45789032 · 06/05/2026 22:05

Yeah, sure that happened. 🙄

CypressGrove · 06/05/2026 22:06

It's gross and immature but why do you jump to it being anything about disrespect for you and your role? Are you generally insecure?

Stopbeingadoormat · 06/05/2026 22:08

What a fucking pig. Of course it's disrespectful, to absolutely everyone around him, not just you.

FrankSinatraonToast · 06/05/2026 22:12

Are you using 'they' deliberately to fool us into thinking a gross pig of a man did this when it was, in fact, a woman?
Either way it's disrespectful and unprofessional.

Horselover90 · 06/05/2026 22:12

Oh come on, it’s for the internal awards night where it’s all light hearted. They wouldn’t have done it otherwise I’m sure. Get over yourself

Agree, even as a teenager I hated fart jokes or anything to do with fart or poo humour, it's just gross.

Cue the usual suspects who will insist on telling everyone they think it's funny - good for you. Humour is subjective, I think it's disgusting and I think people who think it's funny are infantile and a bit gross. And yep, I absolutely do have a sense of humour and am, indeed, great fun at parties thanks :)

But when something is genuinely pathetic and disgusting to a lot of people, and you know it is (and they do know it is) you just don't do it at work.

I wouldn't actually do anything about it, I'd keep a note of it though and see if it becomes a pattern of being a piggy man boy or piggy woman girl or if it's just a one off.

I’m secure enough not to spend my time attempting to belittle strangers on an internet forum. I know that much!

I work in a clinical environment and the amount of farts and burps that go on- mainly from older females. Many on purpose and all giggled about, I cringe. It’s horrid.
I don’t find farting funny and haven’t since I was 7 years old. But a lot of people do see the humour!

I'm not trying to belittle you, I'm curious about why you thought it was disrespectful to you and you role rather than just someone being an a douche? I don't think my mind would go there. Also many people are insecure (not saying you are - it was a question) - it's not an insult?

They do know, though, that a lot of people find it revolting. Everyone knows this. They shouldn't be indulging in this infantile grossness at work, sorry you have to put up with that.

Restlessdreams1994 · 06/05/2026 22:27

It’s not my kind if humour but I think you are being a bit overdramatic to say they are “disrespecting you”.

Then again, I’d hate to work in any place where I was having to be filmed doing my job.

jackstini · 06/05/2026 22:32

YANBU
It’s gross anyway, certainly not appropriate for work

Immature and I would be annoyed

Do you realise how patronising you sound?

Propagandalf · 06/05/2026 22:39

Even if it's only being posted internally, it's still inappropriate in a work setting. That bit of the video will need to be re-done.

Dollymylove · 06/05/2026 22:42

Oh lighten up FFS

Keep it in, play it at the awards night. See if he’s still laughing when management watch it!

Whiteheadhouse · 07/05/2026 00:09

Definitely include it..."accidentally".
See how he likes the whole company witnessing how uncouth he is.

IsabellaVireauxLaurent · 07/05/2026 00:18

when our company tried to similar it was omg at times with some of them
