Colleague farting on video - disrespectful?

My role is quite varied and one of the responsibilities is videography as the company is keen to share more details of what it is we do. It’s a good sized company, a fair few employees and I guess you’d describe it as a corporate setting.

I was filming a particular department today - a ‘livelier’ atmosphere than some of the company you could say, but everyone kind and jovial.

One of the colleagues came up to me as I was filming background shots and raised their leg and broke wind in my direction. They said ‘get that in Jen’ and started howling with laughter with the colleague stood next to them.

I am all for a laugh, but found this to be a lack of respect for myself and my role?

Absolutely disgusting and very immature and would have been dealt with by a severe warning on their record in my company

KeeleyJ · 07/05/2026 00:40

Unless you work in a nursery for toddlers, that is totally inappropriate.

MidnightMeltdown · 07/05/2026 00:45

Fucking hell who does this at work?! Why are British men so disgusting? Can you imagine a German man, or Polish man, or a man from any other country behaving like this in the workplace? Something has gone seriously wrong with British culture when people think that this is ok.

Did he get sent to the headmasters office?

Was the trumpeter male or female, or an in between ? It’s cringe. Did it smell? That is a fetish for some.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 07/05/2026 01:22

Unfortunately would impact your reputation, but it’s a shame you can’t leave it in - I doubt he would find it so funny when the entire company, including the management team, sees how he behaves in the office.

Ghht · 07/05/2026 01:22

I would feel a bit baffled and disgusted, but it takes more than a fart to insult me.

I’m secure enough not to spend my time attempting to belittle strangers on an internet forum. I know that much!

Ironically a comment that proves the opposite of what it states.

LittlePetitePsychopath · 07/05/2026 07:21

It’s grim, but I’d second really considering whether people are fed up of being filmed, if more than that one person laughed…

tiramisugelato · 07/05/2026 07:31

I suspect they’re fed up of being filmed at work and are trying to wind you up so it doesn’t happen anymore.

I can imagine an Australian or American man doing that for some reason

Oh come on, it’s for the internal awards night where it’s all light hearted. They wouldn’t have done it otherwise I’m sure. Get over yourself

Are you 12?

Maybe an Australian? I don’t know enough about their culture!

I don’t think an American would do that in a professional context. They think it’s rude to even use the word toilet!
