Bin cleaners told DH to fuck off

Rudeness101 · 06/05/2026 16:41

The neighbours have recently started getting their bins cleaned and the bin cleaner keeps moving our bin to the middle of the driveway creating an obstacle when we return.

DH saw them earlier and went to explain the issue and ask they kindly put the bin back when finished to which the guy told DH to fuck off. DH was taken aback but repeated that he’s having to stop the car in the street to move the bin to then drive in, to which the cleaner again told him to fuck off and started laughing.

His colleagues then joined in calling DH a cunt and the pair of them left laughing. DH wrote an email of complaint to the company but learned they’re a small family owned firm. Therefore quite likely one or both of the men are probably related to the owners.

DH is trying to take the high ground and assume they were having a bad day but that doesn’t solve the problem and inconvenience of the cleaners blocking our driveway. The bin is cleaned the same day they’re emptied so not possible for us to hide the bin away, and the street and properties are small so it’s not like we can leave our bins out elsewhere.

We also don’t know the neighbours well enough to think they’d change companies.

WWYD?

I don't really think there's much you can do, the police wont give a toss about this and i'm not sure who else you can go to that would get it sorted out quickly.
A letter to the local council or trading standards but that will move like a glacier.
Best bet is just have a word with your neighbours and see what they can do?

inmyhair · 06/05/2026 16:43

There's not much you can do really. I would definately tell the neighbours about what happened and I'd certainly be giving them a bad review on facebook but other than that nothing you can do. If people are determined to be rude and combative instead of resolving problems then i don't know what the answer is.

Mistymaglets · 06/05/2026 16:44

These people are cleaning the neighbours bins, so hired by the neighbours...and they keep moving your bins? Why?

MegMortimer · 06/05/2026 16:45

What revolting men. Another saying definitely complain to the neighbours, surely they don't want to damage neighbour relationships even if you hardly know each other.

Ironplate · 06/05/2026 16:45

Assuming DH is not in fact a cunt, and you're on reasonable terms with your neighbours, I'd speak to them.

If I heard any company I employed was speaking to my neighbours like that, they'd never be back.

Nothingrhymes · 06/05/2026 16:45

I would put something on your local Facebook page if there is one. Detail what's happening and how the guys reacted and make sure you name the company.

Blimms · 06/05/2026 16:46

Why are they moving your bin?

7238SM · 06/05/2026 16:47

I'm clearly missing something but why are they touching your bins? Surely yours are on your own property and the neighbours are in theirs? Or is it a flat or something?

I'd raise it again with the cleaners and if they are rude again, I'd post something on nextdoor.com (you don't need to use your real name) and name and shame to warn others not to use them. I'd also see if the interaction was on a doorbell/camera and add that to facebook/next door.

Noshowlomo · 06/05/2026 16:48

Yes, why are they moving your bin when the neighbours are having their bin cleaned?

SkaneTos · 06/05/2026 16:49

"The neighbours have recently started getting their bins cleaned"

Is it a regular thing? How often does this happen?

I must admit that I have never heard of that kind of service.
I clean my bins myself, when needed.

Plenty of areas have bin cleaners. Usually they follow the bin lorry around

Emmashome · 06/05/2026 16:53

Gosh I didn’t know people got their bins cleaned every week.

Why are the men moving your bin?

Obviously yanbu but apart from speaking yo
your neighbours I’m not sure what you can do.

Yes this is the key question!

Agree with putting a post in your local Facebook group.

The bins are side by side on the street and for convenience they are moving our bin to the middle of our driveway and then wheeling the neighbours bin down our dropped kerb to clean it as neighbours don’t have a driveway. They wheel the neighbours bin post clean along our driveway back to it’s starting spot but then just leave our bin in the middle of the driveway

Finished what? You said it’s your neighbours bin being cleaned so why are they moving your bin to the middle and why are they putting it back? If they aren’t cleaning your bin maybe they think they’re being helpful fetching it in for you and trying to get more business. If they aren’t cleaning your bin I would have explained the issue and asked them to just leave it on the roadside from now on, I wouldn’t have asked them to put the bin back. They probably thought DH was being cheeky

My mum does. I think getting your bin cleaned is a weird thing to do unless you're not allowed to use bags for the messy waste.

Well put a big sticker on the bin saying "BIN CLEANER DO NOT TOUCH"

😀

igelkott2026 · 06/05/2026 16:57

I'm still not really clear why they touch yours when they are not cleaning it.

Then they are cheeky kents! I’d be raging at their attitude as well.

Specifically He asked them to put the bin back where they found it once finished cleaning the neighbours bin.

he said fuck off and let me do my job. Then when husband was like wooh I’m just explaining before he was cut off and told again to fuck off

If 2 men have no shame in saying what they did ,do posters really think they are going to care about Facebook comments? Not much you can do ,but I’d at least tell the neighbours. They might not want to give their hard earned cash to such a cowboy outfit.

steff13 · 06/05/2026 17:01

I might not be picturing this correctly, but if they're side-by-side, can you rearrange them so the neighbors bins are accessible without moving yours?

dementedpixie · 06/05/2026 17:02

My bins get cleaned every 2 weeks when they food/garden waste goes out (alongside a 2nd bin).its good in the summer especially if there are maggots in the food waste bin. Costs £4 for 2 bins here.

They're cheeky gits. Maybe try speaking to your neighbour as the bin cleaners arent going to take any notice of you

They might care if it's going to be bad for business. Lets just say they should care if it's bad for business.

Edited

It will depend where the bin men have left them after they've been emptied. I'm guessing op is at work and can't control where they are left
