Bin cleaners told DH to fuck off

Rudeness101 · 06/05/2026 16:41

The neighbours have recently started getting their bins cleaned and the bin cleaner keeps moving our bin to the middle of the driveway creating an obstacle when we return.

DH saw them earlier and went to explain the issue and ask they kindly put the bin back when finished to which the guy told DH to fuck off. DH was taken aback but repeated that he’s having to stop the car in the street to move the bin to then drive in, to which the cleaner again told him to fuck off and started laughing.

His colleagues then joined in calling DH a cunt and the pair of them left laughing. DH wrote an email of complaint to the company but learned they’re a small family owned firm. Therefore quite likely one or both of the men are probably related to the owners.

DH is trying to take the high ground and assume they were having a bad day but that doesn’t solve the problem and inconvenience of the cleaners blocking our driveway. The bin is cleaned the same day they’re emptied so not possible for us to hide the bin away, and the street and properties are small so it’s not like we can leave our bins out elsewhere.

We also don’t know the neighbours well enough to think they’d change companies.

WWYD?

If 2 men have no shame in saying what they did ,do posters really think they are going to care about Facebook comments? Not much you can do ,but I’d at least tell the neighbours. They might not want to give their hard earned cash to such a cowboy outfit.

THEY might not, but other people thinking of using their service would.

I wouldn't employ anyone that had a review like that.

In your place OP, I would speak to the neighbours. Just in a "I thought you'd like to know" way, rather than a "I demand to know what you are going to do about it" kind of way. If I heard people I'd employed were a) causing an issue through not putting the bin back and / or b) being so rude to my neighbours, I'd tell the bin cleaners not to come back again.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 06/05/2026 17:06

They were extremely rude. Are you sure that it isn’t the bin men leaving the bin there. My bin men just fling them back in the direction of the house. Usually blocking the driveway.
I just put it back when I get home as do most neighbours. Sometime we put each other’s bin back.

It will depend where the bin men have left them after they've been emptied. I'm guessing op is at work and can't control where they are left

But they have to move her bins in order to get to the neighbor's bins, so can't they just flip them around so that the neighbor's bins are on the outside rather than OP's bins being on the outside? I'm not imagining that she would run out and do that immediately I was just suggesting perhaps in the future.

limetrees32 · 06/05/2026 17:07

Definitely give negative reviews if any local forum
But could we have a diagram?
With arrows indicating direction of travel .

It sounds to me like both sets of bins are on their respective properties - the bin cleaners are using OP’s property to access the neighbour’s bin. So switching them round would only work if OP was happy to have both bins on her property.

Lovelanza · 06/05/2026 17:09

Deffo need a diagram. Could the bins be moved round on bin cleaning day ?

Rudeness101 · 06/05/2026 17:09

The irony is it’s DH birthday and before he’d even had a happy birthday from someone he was being called a cunt and told to fuck off 🙈

I would speak to the neighbours about this, even if you don’t know them well. They should be prompted to move to another company by this. I would be!

Boomer55 · 06/05/2026 17:10

Bin cleaners usually only do them once or twice a year. How often are they doing them?

The companies round here do them every bin day. You have to pay more per-clean for a more infrequent service.

PuppyMonkey · 06/05/2026 17:18

If it was me paying for my bin to be cleaned which it wouldn’t be as who gives a toss if your bin is dirty, I’d want to know if the people doing it had been rude or were causing an inconvenience to my neighbours. Tell the neighbours OP, even if you don’t know them, you’re allowed to speak to them about things.

MrCollinsandhisboiledpotatoes · 06/05/2026 17:18

As a former small business owner myself, the things that hits them hardest is bad reviews.
Leave them everywhere. Facebook. Google. Nextdoor. Everywhere they advertise.
I'd never advise this lightly but a company that treats people like this doesn't deserve to be in business and it's concerning. What if the next person they treat like this is vulnerable.

darksideofthetoon · 06/05/2026 17:23

Sadly this is reflective of the times we live in where people think they can do and say what they like. Not sure what you can really do without escalating things in a bad way for you.

Could you chain lock your bin in place somehow?

It’s possible to leave a review but if they think it’s you then they may be the type to cause more trouble for you - scratch your car or brick through the window. Absolute scum these types.

Specifically He asked them to put the bin back where they found it once finished cleaning the neighbours bin.

he said fuck off and let me do my job. Then when husband was like wooh I’m just explaining before he was cut off and told again to fuck off

Definitely not moving the bin then to try be helpful or gain new customers! Lol.
Of the company doesn’t reply then I’d be tempted for a bad review

ACynicalDad · 06/05/2026 17:37

I'd give 48 hours for a response and if not find their profiles on fb and google and leave reviews.

I agree but as OP thinks it’s a family company, if that’s how they conduct themselves, they are unlikely to care. It doesn’t make sense to me and you why anyone would say that to a customer but they are clearly idiots

Yes this is what I’m getting at

Dancingsquirrels · 06/05/2026 19:17

Speak to the neighbours. I wouldn't want to employ a contractor who was offensive to my neighbours

Eggyleggy · 06/05/2026 19:23

Could you ask your neighbours if you can swap the bin positions around so that the company don't need to move yours to access theirs?

MrsMitford3 · 06/05/2026 19:27

I feel like I need a diagram @Rudeness101

I will also admit I get my bins cleaned-but monthly not weekly.
I am in a Victorian semi and the bins are at the front along the path to the front door.
I have the nose of a bloodhound and for me the bin cleaning well worth it.
But weekly does seem a lot unless your neighbours are filling their bins with something untoward 😉

Sunisgettinganewhaton · 06/05/2026 19:28

Review their business honestly...

This.

Make the neighbour aware that their bin cleaner is rude and obnoxious and blocking your drive.

The neighbour can choose to put your bin back if they don't want to have a conversation.

They won't care about the compliant but they will care about the reviews, because they will lose them business.

I disagree. It’s hardly a professional business if people behave like that. Proper businesses care about reviews- thugs don’t.

Tell your neighbour to tell their company not to use your drive.
get gates for your driveway
block your drive from the neighbours
