Badenoch isn’t the only politician to do so, Starmer had too. What support is given to Muslim communities who suffer from higher numbers of hate crimes?

Why do people bring Muslims into it when discussing antisemitism and hate crimes against Jews? The Government gave 10 million to mosques and Muslim faith centres last year to protect them from hate crimes and attacks. So yes they are being protected too. You are aware that jewish primary schools in the UK require security guards because of the risk of attacks. We’re talking about security guarding the schools of children as young as four. This isn’t required for any other schools in the UK. Secondary school children attending Jewish schools are advised to not walk around in their blazers as they may be attacked. The antisemitism in this country is sickening.

Go figure? Is this Dawsons creek?😂

People being murdered in cold blood is amusing to you?

EasternStandard · 05/05/2026 20:34

Hallowedturf · 05/05/2026 20:29

Being blunt - she handled the fallout poorly IMO.

One of the many things I despise about Starmer, is that he never takes ownership - it’s invariably always the fault of a third party.

Badenoch should have been quicker and more emphatic.

Yes firing people every time is no great shakes from him.

JollyDenimSeal · 05/05/2026 20:35

People can't march for Palestine without being arrested but that's on Starmer - not her. But she agrees with this position clearly

Hallowedturf · 05/05/2026 20:37

TheLandlordsAreFrowning · 05/05/2026 20:33

She did blame a third party. That is probably why you only posted a snippet of what she said. In full:

"I have apologised. I did not sign off the video. It was about a vote in parliament where Labour are putting in legislation that is hounding the very elderly veterans for things that happened decades ago, often under the instruction of political leaders who are no longer around.

“We support our veterans, but the video was done by very young people who did not recognise the footage as being from Bloody Sunday. So I apologise as well that that video went out in error.

“It was removed as soon as the party understood that that was what had been put out.”

Had I left the context in, you would have criticised that as trying to explain her actions.

No pleasing some.

MyLimeGuide · 05/05/2026 20:32

Do you have to be so snide? I have friends from Palestine. I've marched for Palestine. I would never support any Jewish place of worship being targeted or any Jewish person being targeted but I support the Palestinian people. It's not a laughing matter

If the families and friends of murder victims and the communities they are from say something is deeply upsetting and frankly inexcusable as it came from a senior politician, it is not a good look to minimise the hurt they feel.

You rightly criticise Starmer for blaming others for his fucks up. Badenoch has done exactly the same. She was also very tardy with her not very apologetic apology.

I agree that it was a fuck up. I haven't suggested otherwise. I also haven't minimised anything.
What I don't agree with is the pp saying that she celebrated murderers.

Much is performative and simply faux anger. Some term it suicidal empathy.

In reality, it’s simply a weapon with which to attack those on the right.

I'm not anti semitic on any level. I'm pro Palestine. It's not the same thing. Palestinian people don't have it easy. Understatement. You can be pro Palestine without being a crank or a Jew hater. I'm neither

JollyDenimSeal · 05/05/2026 20:42

Anyway this is just turning into a thread where one person is running around defending Kemi and having pot shots at other people. Tiresome

All I see is a woman hopelessly out of her depth, spouting utter nonsense that backfires continuously, while she haemorrhages support (and MPs) to Reform.

Because Islamophobia doesn’t ever seem to be highlighted by politicians. As a voter I care about both. Islamophobia and Antisemitism are both sickening. The vile actions of Israel are escalating misery and hatred around the world. I do think this needs to be recognised and the right for peaceful protest needs to be highlighted whilst also highlighting how there is no place for anti semitism , Islamophobia or any other hate crime in society.

This isn’t backed up generally though in personal ratings or focus groups.

It is truer for Starmer.

Tell me - how are you feeling re Thursday?

What’s your instinct telling you?

MyFellowScroller · 05/05/2026 20:44

The Tories do admit their failings over that Boris and Liz the Lettuce years. Rishi did not have a chance to show his capabilities, it was too late. They are improving. The lead team is more responsible and more ethical than the old set. I believe they will be a capable party again but there isn't time before the next election. They will not form a formal alliance with Reform in spite of many urging them to. There may be an agreement on a few policy matters but little more. Reform is too fast and can change so quickly they would be difficult to rely on.

She acquits herself pretty well at PMQ’s - frequently has Starmer on the ropes.

Have you seen her at PMQs? Starmer wipes the floor with her every week. She hasn't got a clue.

No way. You’re really not with the public on this one given his ratings and how votes will likely go on Thursday.

Muslim schools in some areas have also introduced security guards so it isn't true to say that security is only a requirement for Jewish schools in the country.

Also if we are talking about children being targeted, last year in Newton Mearns a hijab wearing 15 year old school girl was attacked. And a few years ago a 14 year old Muslim girl was attacked by 2 adults on a bus in South Yorkshire. A woman repeatedly punched her while a man yelled anti Muslim slurs at her. Both of these incidents were in the local news.

Both communities are targets of bigotry and racism and sadly children of both communities are at risk.
