Rage bait

GingerRhubarb · 05/05/2026 17:17

Um no but a poverty stricken childhood it clearly was not.

Some examples...

(1)She didn't understand the complexity of the war situation and would have jumped in with both feet.

(2) Her autism comments are jaw-dropping

(3) The latest Bloody Sunday debacle.

She all too frequently ends up with her foot in her mouth.

She does come over as very confident but sometimes it is definitely all style and no substance. She didn't understand about the Budget - as another example:

Kemi Badenoch Embarrassing PM Qs Gaffe About Budget | HuffPost UK Politics

Kemi Badenoch In Embarrassing PMQs Gaffe As She Suggests Budget Has Already Happened

Keir Starmer had to remind her it is next week.

Nope. Not a fan of her at all.

But would begrudgingly vote for her if it meant keeping Reform out.

Is it Tory vs Reform in your area really?
It looks like it's Green vs Reform in a lot of places, why not just vote Green?

Summerbean · 05/05/2026 17:23

I can't see it myself. I don't find any of the current party leaders particularly inspiring and she is no exception. I haven't heard a single tangible idea of hers which filled me with confidence that she could bring about change.

I'm astonished anyone on mn supports her. Her stance on "not all cultures are equally valid" is openly racist, she believes autistic people have too much privilege, and supports cutting maternity pay.

I prefer my prime ministers less oppressive to minority groups.

"not all cultures are equally valid"

From my "growing up in the west" position I can agree with this statement. Of course many people do think this but Kemi will come out and say it. Which is one of the reasons people are liking & of respecting her - she is refreshing.

Cultures who don't give women any rights, cultures who promote marriage of girls to men, cultures who punish gay people with death/imprisionment, cultures who are routinely murdering those of a different religion etc aren't equal to those cultures who are more socially advanced and give their population equal freedoms/freedom of belief etc.

It perhaps opens her up to accusations of racism, but anyone with half a brain should be able to think about this and know its not at all racist.

Just my opinion though - feel free to disagree & defend these cultures who marry off girls at 9, deny women all rights, murder those of a different religion or political leaning etc by all means.

Her claims re Stanford have been firmly rebuffed. Her father was a doctor and her mother a professor working for the elite.

Working for the elite?

Grin

How very dare they….

Working as well! The bastards.

You asked for some examples. What do you want - War and Peace? It seems quite personal for you.

It strikes me as so wilfully blind that this idea that 'all cultures are equal' could only be a faith based leftist mantra to signal loyalty to their tribe.

All fine and dandy unless you’re trying to create a picture of being poor during childhood.

Kemi may come across as impressive, but remember this: it's really easy to look and sound good when you're in opposition. You're not having to make difficult decisions or compromises, your 'good ideas' are not being put to the test, you don't have an opposition trying to trip you up or oppose your Bills, you're not having to face the uncomfortable realities of Whitehall, or the NHS, that scupper your seemingly perfectly logical ideas.

If you vote for Kemi you'll still get the same old Tories, do they really deserve another chance? It'll be all the same people with all the same approach and ideas as we had before. We can't keep voting them in and miraculously expect a different result. Kemi will be betrayed, like all the others before her, bc some self-important prig will think he can do better . Yes, it will be another rich, self-important white guy (with super-rich friends pulling his strings) - not the person you voted for.

well Labour had years of experience at this and still are rubbish.

I think regardless of our political persuasion, or none, as a country we all benefit from a strong and robust opposition party. And we all sufer without one.

If Labour had been stronger in oppostion for those 14 years we might not be landed with such a sad withering mess of a govt as we have now.

I don't know if I would ever vote Tory, but what I do want is for Kemi to be a strong leader of the oppostion, and a strong leader of her party so they can together be the best robust opposition they can be.

lljkk · 05/05/2026 17:33

I disagree with KB the more I hear from her, opposite of OP.

I get impression KB wants UK soldiers & military deployed to take active role in middle east war against Iran. I can't support that, decider issue for me.

My area is usually a strong Labour area but I'm not taking that for granted. To be honest, I'll vote for whoever it means to keep Reform out.

This is very serious and I agree. To be fair on Kemi, Farage was also gung-ho about Iran. He just backtracked quickly. Kemi sees this as being decisive. It is not decisive to meekly follow Trump. She messed up big time on this.

It's such a low bar and I have felt politically homeless for so long that I do wonder if I am clutching, but.... yes, she seems to be the best of the bunch at the moment.

I like that she isn't afraid to answer a question, even if her view won't be for everyone. It's refreshing after the usual vaguery and flip-flopping and actually something that the odious Farage does well. At least you know what they stand for.

I never thought I'd be voting Tory at the next general election, but my vote is probably going to come down to a process of elimination:

Labour - Not a chance I'd vote for Starmer ever again.
Reform - Farage and his cronies - no thank you
Green - Insidious and dangerous. Un-recognisable from the environmentally focussed Green Party of former years.

Lib Dem - I mean honestly, if ever there was an opportunity to see the gap, grow up and be a proper party it was now, and they have failed. And even if they had sorted themselves out, they can fuck right off with their Men In Dresses.
Restore - Vile

And that leaves Kemi.

At least if a lot of people vote for her, it will dilute the Reform vote, although i'm not sure that it's clear who is coming in second at the moment - it seems to flip-flop between Labour and Tories.

this is pretty much where I am at the moment - I think there are so may "politcally homeless" in the same postion.

All fine and dandy unless you’re trying to create a picture of being poor during childhood.

She absolutely didn't do this. She described the experience of being a middle-class child in Nigeria which involved experiencing and/or witnessing hardships and difficulties that many of us in the UK would struggle with. Why not have a read? You might find her experiences interesting.
