Kaia Gerber has that special something. Lila Moss does too but not in the way her mother has.

Lila Moss is nothing like a supermodel short, lank hair and a very non descript face she takes after her father. Certainly doesnt stand out in the crowd. So unfair when there are sO many beautiful girls who cannot get a foot in. Long gone are the stunning supermodels of yester year Linda E, Claudia, Cindy, Christie T, Naomi etc.

BleedinglyObvious · 05/05/2026 14:19

@Empress13 , the 'look' changes. The models you mentioned had the look in demand at that time.

I think Kate Moss has a fairly non descript face. There are many more beautiful women than her, but her & her daughter have quite elfin features & are almost a blank canvas and all their features fit together well. I actually think her daughter is quite beautiful in a not too obvious way and there's no doubt the camera loves them (wish I could say the same about me. I always think I look OK but quickly change my mind when I see recent photos!)

BleedinglyObvious · 05/05/2026 14:50

It's not how beautiful you are, it's how the camera catches you.

I know someone (A) who's sister (B) is a model. They look alike, A is stunning but it's B the camera loves.

I don't think Brad Pitt has any family in the business, but he also started a long time ago, when it may have been easier to break through. A lot of his ex's do, however. And at least a couple of his kids are actors / dancers.

I don’t think Tom Cruise did either. There are loads that haven’t gone through the nepo pathway.

Diane Morgan seems to be everywhere...oh right, she's married to the head of BBC comedy.

I think she’s funny. She’s not married although she is in a relationship.

I know that nepotism in the acting world is endemic, but I hate it when parents or children make excuses such as 'Oh, but being related to X only opens the door for you - you then have to prove yourself!'

That's just the point - what most young performers need is just to have the door opened for them. It's like so many nice jobs - lots of us (or our children) could defnitely DO them, but could we GET them??

I don't know if this is still true, but a friend who worked in publishing in the early 2000s told me that magazine publishing was extremely hard to get into and for book publishing - you just had to know someone and get an introduction. It may have changed, but there are so many 'industries' which are effectively closed to ordinary Joes and Joannas.

I just wish everyone involved would be honest about this.

Kate Winslet being a culprit of this. She wasn’t a nepo baby herself I don’t think, but she bends herself in a pretzel trying to convince us her daughter isn’t a nepo baby and still had to prove herself.

Agreed. But iI think it’s not unusual for people to gloss over the role that luck or privilege plays in their life curcumstance.

I think because the ‘hard work should be rewarded’ is a very idealised narrative, so nobody wants to admit they’ve had it easy and didn’t earn what they have.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 05/05/2026 16:11

BleedinglyObvious · 05/05/2026 12:22

Do you blame him?

Nope. But this thread is about nepotism.

Mind you, they may have a production company now so it’s gone away from nepo perhaps.

But he seems like a bloke who gives a hell of a lot of opportunities to people who may otherwise be overlooked, and is very vocal about how others should be doing the same. So I’d definitely forgive him a bit of early nepo.

I believe quite a few scientific studies have confirmed this.

People tend to underestimate the degree to which luck, or other external factors, have aided in their success. By contrast, they overestimate the same when it comes to their failures. It seems to be a part of human nature.

The publishing doesn’t surprise me. Whenever I’ve watched some footage of women working on a top magazine they are always very posh and obviously from a wealthy family.

You get in via an internship. Mummy and Daddy pay your rent and give you an income.

I only discovered recently that Debbie Allen ( Fame, Grey's Anatomy) and Phylicia Rashad ( Cosby Show, Gilded Age) are sisters. They have a production company together.

Didn’t she just feature in a movie her son produced/ directed/whatever (!), he uses his father’s last name…….🤷‍♀️….

The daughter did and Kate was disagreeing about there being nepotism or something.

How about David Tennant?
His father-in-law is Peter Davison, a previous Dr Who.
I wonder whether that was how he got the part? 🤔
