To feel upset about post on local fb group

I live in a fairly small village where people are super nosey but I keep myself to myself. Recently I chose to participate in no mow may (I did start a bit early) where you don’t mow your lawn to encourage wild flowers and bees / butterflies. I have also build a small hedgehog shelter.

today some busybody from down my road has posted on the local fb group about people needing to mow their lawns short and not have any wood in the garden as unsightly and attracts pests and rats. Now I know this is aimed at me and I feel upset.

i don’t want to mow it but they’ve got all their cronies making comments as well. I’ve got a friend coming to mow the lawn now in a few days as I can’t face the drama. We can leave a few patches where the lovely wild flowers are.

If it was your name, that your parents lovingly chose for you, you would think differently. Empathy is lacking with you.

I hate being called Karen. Asked my mum why she called me it. If it wasn’t for the fact she loved it I’d change it.

I'm pretty sure the name didn't have 'that' meaning when you were born!

Maybe not, but I said if my mum didn’t love my name I would change it. Meaning if she didnt love my name now, not when I was born.

What you do with your garden is none of their business. They cannot demand that you do what they would like you to do. Having a log pile and long grass would not be considered an environmental nuisance (if anything the opposite) so they’ve got no grounds to complain. I wonder if the person who complained is trying to sell their house and wants a row of neat identical front gardens to boost their sale price. Ignore them.
Why are you pandering to them and why is your friend coming to mow the lawn?

There are blue bells and snowdrops. It’s not messy at all. Yes it’s the same person who posts most weeks about cars parked on the road or bins

I prefer long grass and wildflowers to a carefully manicured lawn, in terms of being sightly/unsightly. Please don't change what you are doing based on a random fb post. I bet there are others who love your garden.

I think no mow May is a bit weird as you encourage the wildlife in then destroy it the next month. 🤷‍♀️ Better to have year round wildlife areas within the garden.

Yes but by then, all the mice have already nested and moved on, the pollinators have hatched and fed
