AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

I called over to a friend yesterday evening with my dc. She was just coming down the stairs with an empty laundry basket when she answered the door.
she took a few minutes to answer the door so as she opened the door, she apologised and said she was putting away the laundry.
I jokingly said oh no bother I must put mine away, It’s been sitting there all week I need to clear the basket for the next lot.
she then proceeded to tell me she does ALL her laundry on a Saturday- washes, dries, irons and puts away! IN ONE DAY! I nearly fell to the floor. She said she had two and a half loads.
I was even more baffled because she couldn’t have us round until 7ish because she had a crazy busy day. Her dd had training, her ds had a friend over for a playdate, her dd then had an appointment in the afternoon. Then she had to collect her dh from the train station. My mind is blown! She fits her laundry in between doing all of this…and she irons! 😅 where am I going wrong?

2.5 loads a week!!! If only!!!

Kitchenbattle · Today 08:57

Yep this is me, I do the exact same thing on a Saturday or a Sunday whichever suits best. I work full time mon-Fri. I don’t have much time during the week so it’s wash dry iron and put away all in one day! Done and dusted. I have 2loads in a 10kg machine.

Indeed.
We do 5 on a good week....

The bedding alone is 2...

Eenameenadeeka · Today 08:58

Well it's not hard to get it put on around those other things, it only takes a couple of minutes to throw it in the machine. I don't know how she only has 2.5 loads though.

I do 2 loads a day! She’s living the dream

You put laundry in washer, press on then do other stuff. Then you put that in dryer switch on then out other stuff in washer then get in with other stuff. You repeat this 2 and a half times. All she is really doing is spending 5-10 mins each time loading and unloading. There's plenty of time for the other stuff.

Clearinguptheclutter · Today 08:59

Well she is totally mad IMO because she is presumably using her dryer a lot which is costing a small fortune

this time of year I hang out everything. Yes that means some days are unsuitable but most are. Other stuff gets hung up in the airing cupboard. I’ve got a dryer and used it twice this year so far.

she is spending all day doing a rather tedious chore. Far more normal to spend a bit of time sporting it out throughout the week than basically devote a whole day off to it when you could be doing something more interesting instead

eta 2.5 loads is not very much. I can wash and dry that when weather is good. Most of us deal with far more!

TheCurious0range · Today 09:00

I do 7-10 loads a week, if I only had 2.5 I could do it in a day!

We do it all on one day usually as well, we have a 12kg capacity washing machine, so one whites load, one dark, one colours and two bedding washes. The first load is put in at bed time and we set a timer so its ready to be taken out as soon as I get up. So that means the second load is washed and ready by 7:30, so every is washed by about 12, we have a tumble drier and drying cupboard, so it doesn’t take too long to dry it all either.

Decacaffeinatednow · Today 09:01

@Clearinguptheclutter
Did you already read the post ?

Bellabelloo · Today 09:01

We do this as we both work fulltime. But joint effort.

SunnyRedSnail · Today 09:01

If it's a sunny day I do three large loads in one day. No ironing. No tumble dryer.

rwalker · Today 09:01

I can’t believe any family of 4 has 2.5 loads of washing
at a push if she has a 11kg capacity washer
she must tumble dry every thing
Washing and drying isn’t labour intensive
everything tumble dried and a steam generator iron wouldn’t take long
so no great task going 2.5 loads of washing in 1 day

sittingonabeach · Today 09:02

But you shouldn’t leave washing machine (and certainly not dryer) on when not in the house, so not that simple of you having to take DC to activities.

If there are 2 DC how do you fit all bedding, towels, clothes of at least 3 people into 2.5 loads

Roads · Today 09:02

Why would you do it all in one day? It's been beautiful weather here this week ideal for doing a load pegging it out before work and the fetching it in again. No drier or heated airer necessary.

Also who the fuck only has 2 and 1/2 loads of laundry for the whole week?

Foughties · Today 09:03

Im guessing from what you say is that its the other end of things that you struggle with. I only iron my work clothes. I have two dc who take baskets up and down and sort into piles and put their own clothes away. Dh puts his clothes away. Its definitely been easier since theyve been older. Its all very quick with a dryer, plus I use the conservatory this time of year which dries things very quickly.

OneTimeThingToday · Today 09:03

2.5 loads for a family? How?

DH used to do his in one day when he lived alone. Put the washer on before work with sheets/towel, into the dryer when he hit home, and clothes in, then put the clothes in while making his bed (and cooking his dinner etc between thibgs as well.

theresbeautyinwindysun · Today 09:03

I have no understanding why people spend valuable time ironing. I just don’t understand it.

Specialagentblond · Today 09:03

I do 10-12 loads.
1-2 a day which get sorted into 3 baskets as they come out (apart from bedding and towels). All gets ironed and put away in a Saturday.

Ncisdouble · Today 09:04

I grew up with that. Sat morning was washing time. Unless there was som kind of emergency that was the only time washing mashine run. 4 of us.
I still do all in one day but it's only 2 of us.

Tshirtking · Today 09:04

This is the age of the automatic washing machine. It's not the 70s when we had twin tubs that needed to be monitored and had several loads. That really was a half day event. Now you just need to put it in, turn it on and leave it so you can get on with the rest of your day.

NoelEdmondsHairGel · Today 09:04

We do all of ours on a Saturday (well DH does it). Around 5-6 loads. Doesn’t stop us going out though - we’re not sitting supervising the machines.

TittyGajillions · Today 09:05

Laundry is literally the easiest domestic task there is, it takes minutes to sort and put the machine on. It's not rocket surgery.

whatsit84 · Today 09:05

Oh wow, i think we do a minimum of 7 with towels and bedding etc and we’re a family of 4 so not huge! I don’t think we wear loads of clothes but have gym/running kit for me and my husband, kids hobby clothes like karate/clubs/dance, school uniforms, PE kit…. All adds up I suppose. I also don’t have a drier (and surely if you do not everything can go in anyway and needs to dry on a line/airer?)
