AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

I called over to a friend yesterday evening with my dc. She was just coming down the stairs with an empty laundry basket when she answered the door.
she took a few minutes to answer the door so as she opened the door, she apologised and said she was putting away the laundry.
I jokingly said oh no bother I must put mine away, It’s been sitting there all week I need to clear the basket for the next lot.
she then proceeded to tell me she does ALL her laundry on a Saturday- washes, dries, irons and puts away! IN ONE DAY! I nearly fell to the floor. She said she had two and a half loads.
I was even more baffled because she couldn’t have us round until 7ish because she had a crazy busy day. Her dd had training, her ds had a friend over for a playdate, her dd then had an appointment in the afternoon. Then she had to collect her dh from the train station. My mind is blown! She fits her laundry in between doing all of this…and she irons! 😅 where am I going wrong?

I live on my own and I have more than 2.5 loads a week and can’t do it all in one day! I don’t even iron anything.

But I have a washer dryer (the drying takes bloody hours) and I do towels and bedding every week, plus I do a separate small load for pants and pillowcases because I don’t want detergent on them.
So perhaps friend has two big machines and doesn’t do all towels or bedding every week. I would’ve thought two or three beds’ worth wouldn’t even fit in one wash?

Ncisdouble · Today 10:03

Sorry but hoe many pairs of socks do people wash a week per person😱

SonnyandChair · Today 10:03

I can't get my head round people doing 7+ loads per week unless they have lots of kids.

Average family of 2 adults, 2 kids. Clean underwear, shirt/blouse every day but surely you're not washing skirts, trousers, jeans, jumpers, cardigans, lounge wear, sleepwear after one wear?

Towels and bedding wash weekly unless you're one of those weird MNetters who have a fresh towel every day?

Activity clothing adds a lot of extra. My DH also coaches so you’re looking at about 10 outfits per day for a family of four. For things that haven’t got sweaty or touched the body (football hoodies worn for a warm up) I don’t wash every time.

I have no understanding why people spend valuable time ironing. I just don’t understand it.

How is it hard to understand? People choose to do different things with their time. I don't suppose there are many people being forcibly chained to the ironing board when they'd rather be doing something else

I often read this type of comment and I don't get it, what's wrong with a person. Wanting to have increased clothes? Its not a character flaw is it?

Sounds like is 21+ if it takes full washing machine ith added underwear! 😂

Weatheronshuffle · Today 10:11

I wish I only did 2.5 loads a week! I'm pretty good at rewearing trousers & jumpers and I still do about 10 loads a week.

Both DH and I work out three times a week, DC1 plays football twice a week and swims twice a week, DC2 swims once so that's 1 load of sports kits alone. 8 school shirts a week plus jumpers, shorts and 2 PE kits. Towels take up 2 loads. Plus probably about 2 loads of clothes a week, maybe an extra one if I've got a load of jeans to wash. Bedding is 2 loads.

Thank. You.
I like ironing! I find it relaxing and I like smooth, neat clothes. Others don't - that's their choice! Weird judgment.

I launder over weekend 3 kids and 10kg washing machine. Its usually at minimum 5 loads. More with bedding

The machine washes it. Another machine dries it. She folds it and puts away, it's not the hard to load machines between activities.

Monday = washday in this house. I WFH so once it's been sorted into piles it's the work of a few minutes every hour or so to load/empty the washing machine & dryer. Usually about 4 or 5 loads all finished & put away between breakfast and teatime. I hate the thought of stuff draped over radiators etc or left in piles around the house. We have plenty of sets of bedding/towels/sports kit etc & laundry hampers with lids in the bedrooms so there's no need to spend more than one day each week on it.

Maybe, just MayBee she one of those rare people who doesn’t feel the need to bash the life out of clothing when it’s not needed.
Perhaps she’s aware of how many squillions of gallons of water is wasted unnecessarily with this obsession of washing something ( underwear excluded) that’s only been worn once.

See I’m confused by this, I emptied all my laundry baskets yesterday morning and did all my washing…so I have no more laundry! (Except a few small bits from yesterday) What are you doing that’s creating 2.5 loads overnight?!

northernballer · Today 10:14

I do two loads a day as at least two of us do a sport every day, plus all the towels and bedding. 2 adults, 3 teenagers.

I use the eco setting which takes 3.5 hours but is significantly cheaper so even if I did less it couldn't all be done in a day!

SonnyandChair · Today 10:14

DD very sporty but her gear didn't bulk out the washing machine!

Because some fabrics crease and people look awful in creased clothes, esp at work. It’s not hard to understand

wecangoupupup · Today 10:15

I do all mine on a Saturday. Bedding gets done on a Sunday but that’s because I do a full body shower and like to be clean getting into clean bedding, with clean pyjamas.

No way can you have three loads a month! I live alone , bedding and towels there’s two there straight off every week.

It depends on the size of your bedding and towels, and also your machine I guess.

I'm disabled so I shower every 2-3 days as I don't have the energy to shower every day and I don't leave the house most days. I'll re-use towels a bit since they are not really dirty after one use. I have 8 bath sheets and two hair towels which is roughly what my machine fits and they last me a month.

I overheat easily so have a single duvet on my bed despite it being a super king bed. I change it every 10 days so it's 3 sheets, 3 single covers, and 6 pillow covers to wash which again fits in one load.

Clothes - I have outdoor clothes (jeans / nice shirts) and indoor clothes (shorts and older shirts) and I'll wear the indoor stuff for a couple of days each - I swap every time I shower. The shorts barely take up space and the shirts are very thin/light materials as it's what I prefer.

It was closer to 9 loads a month when my OH was still alive as he preferred to layer up and wear heavy materials and slept under a standard double blanket alongside my single.
