What was the issue with that? Did CE not like the way RTD ran the show (to put it broadly)?

He’s been clear that the working environment was not ‘comfortable or safe’. That is why he left and has refused to return or have anything to do with Dr Who since. He’s been more circumspect over the years about saying more but other people who worked there at the time have said there was little to no support, tipping over in to bullying. Further to that they have also said that a lot of this was not about Eccleston himself but more him trying to advocate for the lesser mortals working on the show. All of that was said years ago, but it all became a lot more of an ‘Oh, so that’s what it was’ moment when the allegations against Noel Clarke and John Barrowman came to light.
Russell T. Davies claimed he knew nothing about the sexual assaults carried out by Clarke. Christopher Eccleston clearly does not believe that to be the truth. And RTD couldn’t possibly claim to not know about JB, it was open, not even an open secret, just open. There’s footage of it being joked about at fan meets. Which makes his assertion about NC, unbelievable, it seemed to be the culture of the show. And in 2023 CE was much more specific when asked what would it take for him to return to Dr Who:
‘Sack Russell T. Davies, sack Jane Tranter, sack Phil Collinson, sack Julie Gardner and then I'll come back’
He clearly feels there was abrogation of the duty of care by the team in charge. So yeah, on balance, I doubt RTD will be doing any exposes anytime soon.

2014

why is it being dragged up now?

Because people are often too scared to report at the time.

I think the bbc are doing an investigation into what the hell went wrong and what else has been swept under the carpet. Hence old injustices are coming to light.

Definitely not what's happening in this case. This is someone feeding directly to the press to out those involved including the BBC.

TW is Trinny Woodall

Pretty sure it is Ti Wi without giving too much away. Only one that fits the bill.

Because whoever was injured now feels they may be listened to, when they weren’t supported before?

Ok sassy, it was only a question. Has the original victim put in a complaint?

Does anybody really believe anything they read in the Mail apart from the date..

Even that I'd double check if I was to get anywhere near it!!

ProfessorSlocombe · 03/05/2026 11:11

Because there is no statute of limitations in England and Wales.

That doesn't answer WHY it's being brought up now.

TinyMouseTheatre · 03/05/2026 10:27

I would imagine the victim would have been scared of never working in the industry again if she had.

Look at the recent Dan Walker case where he had over 50 statements to present saying what a thoroughly decent chap he is, only to settle before the case was heard. It might just be my opinion but I wouldn’t settle if I was innocent of the allegations.

I read that he didn’t want to settle, that he wanted his day in Court.

I've figured out who it is. TW. It is obvious when you think about it. A regular on children's TV in the distant past and also occasionally on TOTP. Claims to be an "environmentalist". But I always recognised him as a filthy beast.

It is definitely Tobermory Womble.

Wash your mouth out! I won't hear anything bad about my Wombles!!

Ooh, really, the victim? Or someone else?

Don't know, but there will have been plenty of people who did know, or knew part of the story, including the press. For instance stories had been circulating for literally years about two of the big names to fall from grace (BBC and ITV) but it takes someone with a reason to take it to the next level and give enough details for the press to run with it, usually someone (anyone) with an axe to grind. And the rest of the media love an anti-BBC story.

Oh god its just a mumsnet thread

I reckon you're jimmy carr - who else is going around calling him a good man 😭

I know someone who worked on Cats does Countdown and said Jimmy is really nice. Unstarry and quite quiet and unassuming.

I think I know who is being referred to, and there’s no ‘TW’ and nor can I see a ‘sidebar hint’.

Grateful for the RTD refresher here btw.
