There’s always people saying why didn’t the bbc (or other channel) sack them but unless someone is convicted or it’s ascertained at an employment tribunal, you cannot just sack people on what is essentially hearsay without due process. The victim needs to make a formal complaint and then it’s investigated (remember that false allegations have happened in the past too). I support anyone who has genuinely been a victim but tend to be more circumspect when they make allegations years later and there’s no other mitigating circumstances as to the delay (eg was a child at the time). No idea who this case is but leaving it so long often means that you can’t prove anything either way and there’s person accused can have their life ruined possibly due to false accusations with no way of proving innocence because of the passage of time. I do think we used to live in a world where it wasn’t possible to report such things but you have been for the last 20 years or so.

The thing is this isn’t someone saying words which can be disputed and no-one knows what happened, this woman’s wrist was broken.

Yes the Mail is biased against the BBC but I am still shocked that this can happen in a workplace funded by taxpayers and the worst they’ll do is put him on a shift he won’t like.

and then they hacked Doreen Lawrence’s phone. Lest we forget photos of girls as they turned sixteen “showing off their assets”. Itsa vile paper seeking only to divide opinion and stir up hatred.

And The Guardian denied that the Cologne attacks took place, and called women who objected to a man (a known sex offender no less) in their female spa bigots and liars, and the that’s just for starters. All of our newspapers have their own agendas and they’ve all done some pretty nasty stuff over the years.

I reckon the beeb is just like any other media workplace - completely awful - i reckon that channel 4 lot have got some stories ^🤢🤢🤢^

Truth. I would gobble down a book by Russell T Davies when he’s ready to tell where all the bodies are buried. It would have to be when he’s ready to retire, I imagine. But yes, I’d absolutely love to see him go out with a “bang.” I don’t love everything he writes, but I respect his POV as a writer and he’s incredibly unique - writing for Channel 4, ITV, and still being accepted at BBC. A tell-all would probably be hilarious and quite biting.

Does anybody really believe anything they read in the Mail apart from the date..
Posts like that make you seem a bit unintelligent, so you don't think everything in a particular news source is true but it's blatant nonsense to say that nothing is.'

The Mail is known for not being trustworthy.

@GiorgioArmageddi , you can't be 'incredibly unique'

Quite. It's astonishing ... the guardian, a wolf in sheep's clothing if ever there was one.

Fair point. Hope you don’t use “close proximity”; that one used to make my gran grit her teeth. Anyway, congrats on your pedantry, and your medal should be arriving soon via Royal Mail after the bank holiday 🥇

FFS, please stop speculating. You may end up making life hell for people who are perfectly innocent.

Well you must be interested yourself, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this thread.

I would imagine the victim would have been scared of never working in the industry again if she had.

Look at the recent Dan Walker case where he had over 50 statements to present saying what a thoroughly decent chap he is, only to settle before the case was heard. It might just be my opinion but I wouldn’t settle if I was innocent of the allegations.

It wasn’t DW who settled it was ITN and Channel 5.

You could also argue that if her allegations were true why would you not insist on having it all heard publically so you could be vindicated. As it is who would employ her now?

Not if it was sent 2nd class. It will take weeks.

ProudAmberTurtle · 03/05/2026 12:55

It's not Tim Westwood or Terry Wogan!

The TW is not a household name - he's a BBC news presenter from more than a decade ago

@NellieJean
The DM and the Mail on Sunday were very much on the case of AMW and Epstein- for years.

Also, the DM were pivotal in bringing the Stephen Lawrence killers to justice...

Charlize43 · 03/05/2026 12:56

I am still very disgusted that my money was given to the BBC's Huw Edwards so he could buy pictures of teenage boys wanking and to fund child abuse... And yet if I refuse to pay the BBC, I am the one who could end up in prison!

It's about time the enforced licence fee / TV tax was abolished. It's not the 1930s and they don't need it.

They do need it. You don't have to have a tv licence if you don't watch live tv.

They've been hot on gender ideology/women's rights for years, too.
But it will never not be cool to slag off the DM- a quick virtue signal if ever there was one

Oi! Leave Jimmy Carr alone
He's one of the few male comedians that doesn't pretend to be a snivelling puritan

Just don't pay it and don't answer the door if they ever visit, or politely say 'no thanks' if you do answer the door and it's them and then shut the door. That's literally all you need to do.

I stopped paying mine a decade ago and have never even been visited. Have received over 100 threatening letters though.

OonaStubbs · 03/05/2026 13:11

To be fair, if I’d sent it via second-class mail, you might just as easily never see it again OR receive it in a few weeks. I know using “incredibly unique” may have shaken your faith in me, but I do have standards. I knew you’d want your pedantry medal sooner so that you can wear it out to black-tie events or just going to Costa, so of course I mailed it via first class. 👍 Also, it’s a lovely antique gold colour, if you are currently trying to plan a matching gown and sash.

Agreed. A few people I remember felt they had to defend themselves before Huw Edwards was named.

That’s not true. You still need a TV licence to watch BBC iPlayer, even if you’re watching catch-up TV that’s not live.

Yeah I’ve also not had a tv licence for a decade. I’ve once had someone on my doorstep asking if they could come in and I said no and he said okay and left. The people who get fined or imprisoned tend to be vulnerable or poor people because the inspectors bully them into allowing them access. They know they have zero powers to force entry.

It wasn't DW who settled it was the employer. He apparently wanted the hearing to go ahead, so that he could defend himself.

Edited

Dan Walker didn’t settle, he had been very clear about that. He wanted the case to be heard
