How pathetic you all are

Who? Why?

Hallowedturf · 02/05/2026 11:00

It’s genuinely hard to see anything than Armageddon for Labour, next week.

Well that is not news to anyone! We all know they are going to get a pasting.

pinotnow · 02/05/2026 10:59

What is so awful about him? I can't get my head around the vitriol that he attracts, I just can't. He hasn't been perfect and there have been missteps for sure, but I don't get attitudes like @Albertroad 's.

Hypocrisy, arrogance and cowardly buck-passing are the three ugliest features in politicians, especially senior ones. Voters can overlook all sorts of flaws, but not those.

I’m amazed anyone is still willing to stick up for Starmer.

pinotnow · 02/05/2026 11:15

Well, what are the examples of his hypocrisy? Not sure what you mean with that one. Arrogance - very hard to pinpoint what you mean there too. He's the PM, holding firm on his views is clearly a feature of that role and can be taken as arrogance for those who disagree, but, again, I don't know exactly what you mean. The last one I assume refers to the Mandelson issue, which was blown up out of all proportion by the media and opposition parties and then it sadly (for them) transpired that Starmer hadn't actually done much wrong so they are left with saying he's let others take the blame.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/05/2026 11:15

The weirdest thing about some of the electorate is that even shenanigans like this by Reform: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/merseyside-reform-uk-chair-leaves-33859744.amp won't put some people off voting for them. They're a party with a large % of people who shouldn't be anywhere near public office. Ditto the Greens.

Merseyside Reform UK chair leaves role before elections

The website for the local Reform UK branch has removed Larry Sweeney as chair despite him claiming to still be a Reform UK candidate

Most interestingly the Daily Mail have this spelling mistake in one of their headlines today.

"Starmer enters the endgame: West Streeting 'has enough MPs to challenge for leadership' as Andy Burnham plots return to Westminster 'within weeks'"

It's almost as though somebody has made a typo on the general 'anti Labour' propaganda release for today.

Autocorrect by my phone. Nothing sinister on typos.

I thought that was obviously the issue, tbh. Some people look for anything tenuous to try to discredit, however.

I think the pp was referring to the actual Mail headline, which is here:

https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-15784365/amp/Starmer-endgame-West-Streeting-MPs-challenge-leadership-Andy-Burnham-return-Westminster.html

I don’t think there’s anything in the typo at all. If there was a release or briefing of some sort it’s much more likely to have come from inside Labour than anywhere else. And there probably wasn’t a briefing anyway. It’s just a typo.

Streeting 'has enough MPs to challenge' as Burnham plots return

The Prime Minister faces challenges from not just one but two major Labour players - his Health Secretary and the mayor of Greater Manchester - as his party is expected have poor local election results.

ProudAmberTurtle · 02/05/2026 11:29

What constitutes a terrible night:

Labour lose more than 50% of the seats they won last time (at least 1,100)

The Tories lose more than half the number of seats Labour lost

Reform only gain about 1,000 seats

Greens only gain about 200 seats

Lib Dems make no real gains

PC don't win Wales

SNP only cling on to power

Well then what? Reform? The Greens? You think Labour is bad then let’s see what those twats do. Honestly the glee over the first left wing government we’ve had in years not performing miracles in their first two years is insane. Labour is the only credible alternative to the racist alt right which is about to take over many councils in this country and completely destroy any community cohesion we have left.

No one expected miracles, we all knew lockdown had to be paid for, but they have turned on their supporters, some of their policies have no benefit to anyone they are motivated purely by spite, and they have put our economy and our food supply chain at risk. We've experienced energy shocks, and food has skyrocketed in price. We don't need food shortages as well but that is where their policies will lead. They are not a competent government for the British people and a lot of people can see that.

Reform will probably do quite well unfortunately seeing as their average voter age is 61 so they have time on their hands to vote.

I'm mid 30s, with a full time job with an hour's commute and two voluntary roles.

My postal vote is on my kitchen counter right now, for me to spend less than 2 minutes filling it out and I'll drop it in a postbox when walking the dog this evening.

It doesn't take time to vote.

(Although I admit I have spend half an hour today researching the campaigns of each of the parties in my area as I'm a swing voter, but if I voted tactically or on party loyalty/disloyalty I could've saved that time)

Badbadbunny · 02/05/2026 11:32

Changingplace · 02/05/2026 08:06

No matter what happens he won’t have to do anything, you do understand it’s local council elections not a general election?

Yes, but the Labour party members and back bench MPs will get rid of him as it will be proved he's an electoral liability. They need rid so a new PM can get a grip and has 2/3 years to avoid a blood bath at the next GE. The MPs know they'll be basically all kicked out at the next GE if Starmer stays in charge as he hadn't a clue how to turn things around.

Nail on the head. They've not actually improved anything for anyone. Just made things a lot worse. It's all sixth form level politics of envy with no common sense and no understanding of human behaviour.

Yeah, the ideas that local results tell us nothing and that governing parties lose massively at locals and don’t care are, well, nonsense.

Exactly this. It gets wearing with all the 'you can't expect miracles' posts. Well, no, but what you can hope for is for it not to be made bloody worse! They've not even managed that.

What do you mean? I'm working full time, and dropping ds at the school bus next Thursday, same as normal.

Where is all this spare time you think I have. Or are you just spouting ageist nonsense again?

Locutus2000 · 02/05/2026 11:39

Reform is shitting itself about the Green surge cancelling out their dream of sweeping the board.

It's pretty obvious with the constant, distinctly botty, threads and posts with nothing but simplistic 'opinions' and attacking other posters.

I’m sort of hoping so as it gives them plenty of time to fuck up before the next GE so they will be less likely to do well then.

If that happens Farage will whine about:

Tactical voting
"Family" voting
Postal voting.
