Hi all, I'm really struggling with a decision and wonder what people thought.
I work full-time for a big care provider and whilst I don't earn terrible money I am starting to struggle to make ends meet
I've looked at a second job but as a single mum with small kids I couldn't commit to anything else on a contractual basis.
A good friend recently told me she was working on an ad-hoc basis for a chatline operator where you pick your own hours.
The money is ok and it helps her financially.
I've started giving this line of work serious thought.
I have every other weekend free where I could do this without my children present and it would mean I wouldn't have to commit to shifts etc.
I'm worried my main job would find out and I would be in trouble due to the nature of the work,which is the main thing making me hesitant.
Should I give it a go? Thoughts please.

How do you sound enthusiastic? How much do you get paid?

Haha sometimes sounding enthusiastic is really the hardest part 😂 you just put on an act I guess in the same way you would in any customer service related job. There are definitely times when I’m rolling my eyes whilst sounding all enthusiastic.

Pay works out to slightly above minimum wage but you only get paid for the time you’re actually on a call. It’s never going to earn me a fortune but, as I said before, people do much tougher things for the same money so I really can’t complain.

It’s the training program I’m interested in!

I worked for one at Uni, they were linked to our local Spearmint and Rhino club and you had to be given the number by a staff member at the club to call (ie: you were vetted first). This was in 2010/2011/2012.

Hi all thank you for your thoughts. I think I will do it for a month or two and see how it goes.
Not looking to be absolutely loaded but any extra cash at the moment would help.

If you are struggling with the decision, that’s your answer.

There are lots of side line jobs that you can pick and choose hours with. Don’t do force yourself to do anything that doesn’t feel like the right fit for you.

I think it would be soul destroying. I imagine only the grossest of men would call, and it would affect my world view and my interactions with men in real life. I think it would get into my head and I would be going about my everyday life and thinking “I wonder if that man calls those lines, or maybe that man” etc.

Only sheer desperation (like I was going to lose my and my DC’s home level of desperation) would induce me to do something like this.
